And? Are there many Ayu fans or people who know her?

She is not famous where I live.
Actually, I would say she has a pretty negative image here in the West. Ayu is either an old memory of 2000s Jpop or hated. The hate mostly comes from her voice.

She's not famous in Finland. I know only few people in Finnish jpop community who actually knows who Ayu is but that's all. If I went to talk about her to someone else, they'd look at me like I was a weirdo, lol.

I would say no. She's not really famous in my country. People would know Utada Hikaru's first love.....apart from that....might be Kiroro's Mirai. People in my country only knew some of OST for Anime...

Maybe nowadays even some of the japanese teenagers don't know who Ayu is/was anymore. Her peak happened about 20 years ago; seems as though most of todays young music audience wasn't even born back then.

Yea, people in their 20s won’t know she exist even. Ayu’s 2001 fame across Asia is quite similar to Lalisa from blackpink in 2021(today).

Or maybe Lisa(blackpink) has more recognition as it’s a whole different era now? Like the world today and back 20 years ago is so different

When did you start to love Ayu? Me, I started to love her in 2018. Since I'm a newbie fan, I only know half of all of her songs (not all of them). But she's my most favorite among J-pop Artists. And I feel weird about my classmates back then because they cringed a little why do I listen to Ayu's songs. And not our country's (Filipino) songs. But it's okay to be different from them. And I accepted it. And I've been inspired by most of Ayu's tracks based on her songwriting skills. Because most of her songs are emotional and I can feel its pain. And even if I can't understand Japanese words and struggling to find translations, I am always taught to myself that I can understand the lyrics in my mind. I mostly use her songs while traveling to other places and it calms me.
