Did Lady Dynamite PV made "many people" lose interest on Ayu?
I was reading the site eneabba and on the screenshots page for the "Lady Dynamite" PV there is this text:
"This is the video that made many people loose any interest in what Ayu will be singing next. " http://eneabba.net/ayu/video/videocl...y_Dynamite.htm I don't recall people being mad or dissapointed with the PV, but maybe I'm wrong and actually "many people" lost interest on Ayu after that. Do ya'll remember the reaction of fans back then? |

^I don't know how many people left the fandom at the time, but it did generate some drama. There is/was a lot of homophobic people in Ayu fandom.
Starting from GREEN, every Ayu video that touched lgbt issues got less and less drama, so either people left the fandom or got used to it. Last edited by Andrenekoi; 15th April 2018 at 09:45 PM. |

^ You mean GREEN got bad reactions from people? :O
I remember a person who had a fansite dedicated to ayu (and another singer i forgot the name of) saying she won't update her website any further because Ayumi was going against her faith in Jesus Christ and therefore she will stop listening to her lmao I can't find the website anymore but this was hilarious to read |

I appreciated eneabba, it was an amazing website but I think he’s just closed minded.
I remember that he kept making it a big deal, he kept going in different threads saying the same shit. |

People really disliked the video direction, but pretty much every video of the director was bashed. I even opened a thread at the time Lady Dynamite caused controverse to discuss Ayu's representation of lgbt subjects on her work, but it was closed cuz it was considered a too controversial theme for the forum at the time. |

I don't remember anything like that happening.
If there was backlash I think it was a vocal minority. Either way, the Lady Dynamite video isn't even a big deal. Ayu has always included sensitive themes in her career in a very tasteful way in my opinion. She never forces anything upon us or comes off as preachy. I'd say the biggest blows to her career were Bold & Delicious/Pride, missunderstood covers, getting married/divorced, leaving Japan, and Party Queen. |

"many people" = "me"
It's not really any deeper than that lol Honestly he really overreacted and that was more controversial among fans at the time than even the PQ cover art! |

I swear I've seen him written "me" instead of "many people"

But yeah, Eneabba dude was the only one I remember who was really pressed about the Lady Dynamite PV (mostly just the urinals). Sucks because I loved his site and still use it as a resource from time to time, but homophobia isn't cool. LD isn't a super great video and is probably one of Ayu's "trashiest" but if you don't like it, just move on and watch some of her other videos instead lmao.

I actually just rewatched the Lady Dynamite video and some of my memory came back to me. I do remember some backlash in the youtube comments all those years ago. I know I was a bit shocked back then too but I just kind of got over it and moved on. It didn't bother me too much because it just looked like an American music video but with Ayu and tons of men everywhere.
I use eneabba often. He didn't mention anything like that as a reason for no longer updating the site. In fact I think he writes that he still owns Ayu's stuff and still listens to her. I would be a bit sad if this is the real reason he left the fandom. Was there anything specifically that he said that was homophobic? I don't think not liking the Lady Dynamite video equals homophobia. |

Just because I'm gay doesn't mean I'm forced to like all things LGBTQ-related in her videos. I mean, I LOVE "how beautiful you are", the video is incredibly gorgeous and the instrumental and the background vocals are the best thing Timmy has ever done with Ayu (which is kind of a miracle after the hot mess that Party Queen turned out to be)... but back to "Lady Dynamite", the video feels so reductive and cheap that I'm not surprised people started losing interest in her because of it.

--- I remember that saga Lady Dynamite/nick saga lol. He never out-right said that he was homophobic, but that's the vibe that I got from reading his posts. I mean, perhaps people started losing interest in Ayu at that time (RnRC was the point at which my interest declined), but I honestly got the vibe from nick that he really didn't like the gay aspects of the video.

I actually vaguely remember this being a concern back when the video came out. It kind of shocked me, but by that time, I had mostly stopped watching her PVs anyway.
Anytime I find a video of hers to be uncomfortable, I just pretend it doesn't exist, like XOXO or WARNING. I think those made wayyyy more uncomfortable than Lady Dynamite. I honestly think the most shocking part of LD were the costumes...XDD |

I do remember some Japanese fans not liking the song. But during rock and circus, the song grew on most due to the spectacular performance.

I think the Japanese fans concerns were lyric based.
Homophobia is not that present here. Not to say it doesn't exist, but culturally there isn't as big a stigma against it. Plus it was comically presented. That entire video is almost a parody lol. It's completely over the top. Lyrically though it's quite... meh? Like, she was known for deep lyrics and the lyrics were not deep at all lol. Personally if you're ok with a girl displaying her naked body for an album cover, and young woman depicting prostitutes and a flood of "milk", I think two men staring at each other in a bathroom shouldn't be that big a deal lol. And the tour performance of it was, for me, one of the highlights. It really got the crowd jumping~
