Is Ayu famous where you live?

In your country does Ayu appear on TV, magazines, newspapers etc? Do usually people know who Ayu is when they see her?

...or you're like one of the very few who at least heard of Ayu?

Here in Romania, Ayu is, like the rest of J-Music, veeerryyyyy underrated
There are some anime fans that heard of Ayu because of Inuyasha and liked Dearest, and others who listens to Asian Music (like me) and listens to Ayu at least once in a while, but there are really few. ._.

Spoiler:
If this kind of thread was created before this, sorry, the search box again won't work for me

Only the Asian people listen to Asian music here. =P One of my friends who lives in Los Angeles, California, says that the girls in his school "worship Ayumi Hamasaki" (they're like all Asian or something, though.) In my city (which is in central/northern California BTW), I know only one guy who's heard of Ayu (as far as I know), and he's Asian too.

This is kinda off-topic, but I'm the only person I know, Asian or otherwise, for whom Ayu is the only Asian artist I listen to. With everyone else, Asian artists are like a package deal, lol. You listen to one, you listen to 'em all just because you're interested in Asian culture, ha ha.

Nope

In Italy (and in the rest of western countries, I guess) few people listen or even knew J-music and Ayu
Visual-kei, J-rock and Johnny's are mooore famous among female japanese lovers here.
Ayu seems more loved by boys here (with Kuu, Namie and Hikki) lol

same here... I don't know why... but it's like a fashion trend that j-music fans listen to this kind of music... visual, j-rock and JE... Specialy in love with Yamapi ¬¬

I'm studing a career called "Asian Studies" and in my class 90% of people I know about love this kind of music, the 10% prefers pop... the 70% Knows Ayu, and 40% love some of her songs (overall they always say step you or dearest XD) I only know 2 more people that are only into j-pop, but I'm the only ayu-fan there ^^ XDD

Same Here
When people are checking J-Music they first check out Visual Kei bands like AnCafe, GazettE, Moi Dix Mois, Dir en Grey, D'espairsRay etc
Some are amazed by their looks and music but others are just like "these are men????? omg they loook sooooo gaaaaaaay!!!!11" (I remember this kind of fight on a forum x_x)

Anyway, I'm happy that she isn't very famous here, after I listened to a Romanian song that copied entirely a K-Pop song ("Because I'm a Girl" by Kiss) I was like " please don't do something like that to Ayu, pleeeeease! x_x"

Why is it that all the "female anime lovers" like that Visual stuff? I have a friend who is a crazed anime freak and it's the same with her. Kinda gets on my nerves...

Anywho, Ayu is completely unknown where I am in Canada, however in Vancouver, where there is a much higher Asian population I assume she would be slightly more well known. Although there is a mall here near Toronto called Pacific which is this huge Asian mall, and they sell lots of Ayu stuff. Her newest CDs and everything!

Nope, not in America. In San Diego I've only been once to a Japanese store that sells her stuff and it's waaay Far away. So far, I'm the only big Ayu fan I know, and probably not one in one hundred thousand people know her unless they know a ton about Japanese pop-culture.

I feel so isolated.

I think people like Vk because theres so much emphasis on looking different (sometimes at the expense of the music?), so it appeals to people who want to stand out. Im so happy that Dir en Grey stepped out of that genre, because I really dislike VK.
Yeah, Pacific mall is the place for anything East Asian. But, unfortunately that is no indication of popularity.

not really. i live in new jersey, but since my school has japanese class and stuff, familiarity with japanese culture is not uncommon in my school ... so within my school she is maybe a C-List celebrity. like Heidi Montag maybe.

Hahaha..hahaha...ha...haha...haaaah... You're funny. Is she popular where I live? HA! Absolutely not. I'm more than likely the only high-schooler, at least, who even knows about her existence in my county... She's as good as nonexistent here.

^Me too! Ayu is the only Asian artist I listen to. XD

and @ Paparazzi: [OT] I wish my school had a japanese class All my school offers (and every school in my state, for that matter) offers is Spanish and American Sign Language (although I don't think ASL is statewide). Ugh... no offense, but I just don't like Spanish. And I don't wanna take ASL because a lot of colleges don't accept it. So I'm gonna end up taking French at the college across the street from my school.

She's actually kinda big here in Singapore. Ayu's one of the very few J-Pop singers who gets promoted around here. Promotion as in CMs and posters and whatnot.
