I'm going to say KPop, I really think that JPop has lost some of it's interest value at the moment, however there are a couple of people in the JPop industry who are really good.

i'd say J-pop, even though right now it isn't as great as before. i have to look at it in the overall picture. you can't beat J-pop when it was at its best, IMHO.
i've listened to K-pop, but the only act i really, really like is Epik High. i've only heard a selective number of C-pop artists, but none really stuck with me.

JPop for me
I do listen to C & K Pop if it's on MTV but my main priority's still jpop SS501's song (the one that was used for promo for the Korean version of Hana Yori Dango) is more or less stuck in my head @_@ , MTV Asia / China kept playing it everyday til I cannot take it anymore

Why is everyone saying that J-Pop is getting so bad nowadays? The only bad thing about the current scene that I see now is not as many new artists debuting as before, but I prefer that than a lot of talent-less artists debuting. Apart, from that, I strongly believe that it still is the best musical industry out there, in both quality, visuals, promotions and entertainment value.

It was for fun initally but it became a serious thing when I decided to leave supporting the Eng local music scene here (cos the bands were getting so big headed for their own right) & it seemed like a natural thing to support/listen to jpop full time when Oct '07 kicked in I wouldn't deny & say this but JPop's way better than Eng music . I decided to listen to jpop during the period of time when Eng music was getting so boring for my liking my younger sister has been listening to it for the past 7/8 years & JPop seemed like a natural thing for me to cross over to which I don't regret doing so I mean , come on , what's there not to like about Johnny's bands & BREAKERZ in which I decided to support them just last year ? xD

Actually, there was a poll similar to this at another forum that involved only K-pop and J-pop. There were a decent number of K-pop lovers, to my surprise, especially for a forum that catered to mostly J-pop fans.
This is simply just a hunch really, but I wonder if most people began their "Asian music fandom" with Japanese pop simply because Japanese cultural things tend to have more of an audience rather than Korean (at least here in the US). If so, that would imply that many lovers of J-pop would get sick of J-pop as the years go by, looking for something fresh. Why not K-pop? Especially since the start of the Korean wave with dramas and music, Japan's next door neighbor seems like the most logical choice. Looking for something new, K-pop seems to have more of a "fresh" face to it especially years of listening to J-pop. So that might explain why there's this shift from Japanese to Korean, but then again it's just a hunch and a simple observation I've notice. This also applies to those who study the languages intensively. After years of Japanese, some seem to hardcore study either Chinese or Korean. Although I've noticed a lot of Korean-Japanese pairings for foreign language. Anyway, I follow this trend to a certain extent and I'll have to say K-pop at the moment because lot of the songs fit into my favorite genre: electronica. K-pop seems to do it well and consistently. However in the long run, I think Japanese music has a longer life shelf because it's such a huge industry (2nd only to the US, I think). But yeah, this is simply an observation I've notice, not a set rule or anything. |
