Not really, at least when it comes to the albums, there were only a rare few idol bands who would have large album sales. I mean I know that arashi sells because people like their personalities, but imo you don't buy someone's cd if they look pretty/have a nice personality

Well, after all, this album has been released only eight months after the other (April 2010, RnRC), and for some, that might be a bit too fast...
...but at least she's still #1. Quite surprised about Dream ON a little bit there. (Apparently, Sayuri Sugawara is nowhere in sight, outside the top 30...) |

but it's definitely idol groups era right now~ and soloists are pretty much not really demanded~ |

Yea, 70k is GREAT sales compared to some of the other artists I like...I'm happy for Ayu. I think she gets most of her $$$ in tours and merchandise anyway.
I'm just glad she's regularly producing unlike someone else. *glares at Gackt* XD |

GACKT had so many releases in 2008/2009, he spent this year touring I guess.

^ Some touring, but he's been doing the Nemuri play lately. I'm not really griping, just saying that I'm glad Ayu is putting out music regularly still.

I'm used to seeing these sales. Numbers aren't incredible for most artists these days. Everyones gets music online or illegally now, so 70k is a great number for a first day of sales.

people don't buy arashi's music JUST because they like their personalities, you know. maybe some people actually LIKE their music?! *gasp*
anyway, ayu's sales are pretty good. i'm sure the week's sales won't be too bad. |

I'm good with the sales, She's #1 and I love the album. She's still holding strong for this long. So, I'm not too worried. More so when we all know the music industry is going downhill still as far as sales go.

This was very predictable. 70k is good considering there's almost little promotion of this album apart from the usual drivel of billboards and internet. Also this year she had no big hit. Not that she tried... she barely promoted any of her singles which imo is very lazy of her and her team.
So mostly the ones who will buy her album will be her hardcore fans. She really needs to get busy otherwise she'll slowly have a dwindling fanbase, which isn't sustainable. I think Ayu shouldn't be taking it this easy though and work on promoting this album also to casual fans and try to attract new ones. To be honest I think she's focusing too much on her concerts and ergo her existing fans and being nonchalant to the idea of getting new fans.

Was hoping for 80K but well, it's still good.
lol exactly. It's been mentioned again and again that there's only a few exceptions when it comes to idol groups being popular which nowadays is just AKB48 and Arashi, everyone else is pretty much on life support. Just look at H!P's sales and they've been around a lot longer and arguably have a wider selection of groups, soloists, archetypes and fresh, attractive girls. It's obviously something else other than the superficial. They're the same groups and people they'e always been even before they were popular, people have just taken a strong liking to their music now. I don't see why that's so hard to believe.

Well there are also KARA & Girls' Generation who start to earn some popularity, even though it might be a kpop (or korean idol groups singing in japanese) wave+idol groups mix.
