okay, I've never been too caring about rankings and stuff but this year Ayu did do worse despite selling higher numbers. It doesn't matter who the competition is. Remember Ayu only gets no.1's these days due to a lack of tough competition (and there're plenty these days).
I don't think AYu gets in number one due to lack of competition. Not many artists have such great first week sales as ayumi. But her singles usually sells more than half the total in the first week, and her singles haven't got that much staying power.
