"Touch My Body" Named Newsday's Song of the Week
Song of the Week
It's nice to have Mariah Carey doing what she does best. Her new single "Touch My Body" (Island Def Jam) is in that "We Belong Together" sweet spot, a midtempo R&B ballad that lets MC show off her vocal abilities, but not too much. Crafted by Carey, with help from The-Dream and C. "Tricky" Stewart, "Body" has just enough street-wise touches to sound current and just enough balladry to make a bid for timelessness. It's probably the best opening single she's had since "Heartbreaker" introduced "Rainbow" in 1999, which is a good sign for her much-anticipated "E=MC²" album, due in April.

This is the largest add week for any song since the system began combining projected adds with auto-adds in 2006. The previous record was held by INTERSCOPE's MAROON 5 with 177 in APRIL, 2007 with "Makes Me Wonder."

"Touch My Body" is this week's HOT SHOT DEBUT on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart at #57 (Billboard issue date: March 1, 2008).

This is Mariah's highest debut on the chart that is based on first week's airplay alone.

In comparison, after their first week of airplay, "We Belong Together" debuted at #81 and "It's Like That" was #104 (#4 on the bubbling under Hot 100 chart.)

On the Hot 100 Airplay chart, the song debuts at #23 this week and becomes Mariah's highest debut on the chart since 1997's "Honey" which debuted at the same position.

"Touch My Body" also rockets up to #20 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, an incredible 58 spots jump from its last week's debut at #78.

An All Access banner from Island Def Jam announces "Touch My Body" at #23 on Billboard's Hot 100 Airplay (Greatest Gainer) as well as the fact it is the #1 most added record across all formats this week.

I'd like Touch My Body a lot more if it didn't include a YouTube reference (not too fond of things that will make a song dated), but I read a track by track review of the album from a listening party (?) that made it sound very promising.

I don't get, the song's isn't catchy, at all.

I saw it on BET and I LUVED IT! Touch My Body is my addictive/favorite song of the week. I think I spend my money on the album. The PV was funny yet cute...for the geek. It's definitely a very catchy song. My last.fm page is Mariah Carey. XD Wow! Touch My Body might be my most played song of the week. Woot! Go Mimi!

I needn't say more about what others have commented regarding the Touch My Body video. It's definitely one of thost "fluff" songs that are really guilty pleasures. I think this song will mostly be memorable though for the funny lyrics. "I will hunt you down!" "All up in my business like a Wendy interview!", and "I best not catch this flick on YouTube".

Sort of detracts from any seriousness the song could've had, but still funny. Also I totally thought the "Wendy interview" thing was in reference to the restaurant Wendy's, not Wendy the celebrity. Haha.
