Did ayu write it as ANEKI in the TA message? Or did she use kanji (姉貴)? Does anyone remember?

Actually, offhand I do think that it was the kanji and not the english letters o_O
You know, she MIGHT have been talking about Natsuki if it was the kanji, since "aneki" is a fairly standard nickname for a best female friend o_O ...Just looked, and you know what, she DID use the kanji! I dunno if that necessarily means anything though cuz she used the kanji for Bancho also (usually written in english letters in her thanks). This is so confusing x_X She does use her assigned nicknames for people when talking about them in her messages though (like Bancho and Mommy and Mama), so I don't see why Aneki would be any exception.

This is kinda confusing. still really sad tho I've never seen the english version of the lyrics. So Ayu has never specifically said who died or how?

No she has not, because she could be ashamed of how her friend died. Or she could feel like she played a part in it. Also, I do not think she wants for us to know who she was and how she died. And I am okay with that because I think I would feel the same way had I been in that situation.

Or it could just be that she wants to be respectful to the person's family. There might not be any shame in it at all. If, say, my best friend died & I was talking about it in excess in my blog, I doubt her mom would be too happy with me. But if I left her name off, it might not be a problem.
The other option is, of course, that she assumed that everyone knew who she meant when she said "aneki" in her blog, and to long-time fans in japan, it's been obvious this whole time who died. Hard to tell, really.

Yeah i have no problem with Ayumi not releasing the details, perfectly understandable.
And yeah suicide is most looked down upon in Japan (not that it isn't everywhere else but most countries understand that those who commit suicide were ill in one way or another and so on) and it can be seen as a disgrace to a family. |
