Man, Amit 2 is such a great album!
Much better than the first one. Idk, the first tried to be different, but most songs sounded very pop and ballad centered still. It was good nevertheless.
But with Amit 2 she's branching out much more - a mix of (Hard) Rock, Electro and Pop. A bit bittersweet and heavy at times, but just awesome!
And already mentoned it, but her vocals are superb here - on point and emotional.

Actually, I like the first AMIT album a little bit more. It was a great mixture of rock and pop sound with some surprises (AMIT song sung in taiwanese dialect, for example)
AMIT2 is also a great album, but I did not expect to hear electropop here. Those two tracks would fit better on A-mei's previous ablum Faces of Paranoia. But it is still the best work I heard this year! and her vocals are amazing. She sounds better and better every year! I do not know how she does it :)

I actually expected Amit 1 to be "harder" in sound before I listened to it. So Amit 2 is more or less what I expected Amit 1to be. I'm really into that mix of sounds - and Rock and Electro are my favourite genres.
Amit 2 is my album of the year so far.

I guess she has enough fans here and we would peak interest for her from others more easily.

We don't have figures, but it's been doing well digitally and physically since its release (top 5)!
I read some reviews on baidu (mostly Chinese fans there), and basically they like the album, and the most mentioned favorite track was A Bloody Love Story (actually it's mine too). Can't remember the other songs mentioned.

Just like Corvina I like AMIT 2 a lot better than AMIT 1. I love this aggressive sound, the lyrics, it's exactly what I've been looking for *_* And I love all the songs, while in AMIT 2-3 songs bore me quite a bit.

Not just her face but the way she fills out her clothing or even walks across a stage. She's got a rhythm and finesse that thinner people can't emulate.

yeah, I noticed albums who have been already released. Della Ding is more upbeat than I expected from her, but still nothing more than mediocre. Actually, I only LOVE her third album which is absolutely great. From other albums I like only a few song here and there.
Li Ronghao is talented, but somehow he doesn´t catch my attention (yet :)). I give his albums a chance once again in near future, but for now I don´t feel like I want to listen his music.

Following her participation to I Am A Singer 4, she's going to release a Best + New album in China. So basically a best with a couple of unreleased songs.
The old -Mandarin- songs will be re-arranged.
Concerning the new songs, she got songs from Lala Hsu and JJ Lin, and she's working with A-Lin's producer. She will start working on it in August!

Angela Zhang's new album is rather nice.

After first listen I am not that impressed, but I have never liked her music that much.
It is definitely better than last two albums which are a pure boredom for me, but the only album I actually love by her is The 5th Season.
I give this album a chance for sure (the only song that I can remember is 忘了 and it is a great song, actually), but somehow I don't expect much.

I thought the self titled album was really good, but the ballads only. I am not a fan of her dance pop. Always struck me as trying a bit too hard to leave her mold.

You may like her new album then. Because there are not a lot of dance pop songs. But neither are there a lot of typical piano ballads. Actually, it is quite interesting album, I must say. I still need need to listen it for a few times, but my scepticism was misplaced in this case! :-)

I agree with you truehappiness. Her new album is so much better than her two last albums. My favourite tracks are Not afraid, No Regrets, Forgotten and Go.

Jane's English album release has been postponed by the way (its first two singles are Dust My Shoulders Off & Battlefield).
In the first place it was supposed to be released in April... But all we got was a Dust My Shoulders Off remix produced by Steve Aoki in early July.
Actually Jane scrapped some tracks and has been recording others. She recorded a couple of weeks ago 3 tracks produced by will.i.am.

Coming Home by Will Pan is nothing special for me .. title track (Clown) from his previous album was much better. Moreover, Garden of Eden song and music video is like a masterpiece for me! So he simply cannot beat that with Coming Home

Cannot wait for new albums by Elva and Stefanie! It has been like forever since their last albums. And I was quite dissapointed with Elva´s last work Shut Up And Kiss Me so I hope this album will be much better.

... and despite what Jolin said in the interview, I still somehow don´t believe she will be able to release an album by the end of this year. She is perfecionist and she still doesn t have lyrics for a lot of songs so I would expect a new album at the beginning of next year. But that´s just my personal feeling :)

I don´t think she is trolling us deliberately, I just thinks Jolin herself has no idea when exactly album will be realesed, so she cannot properly react to those questions. When the work will be done, it will be done. Then we can get some specific info, now she is just in the process of recordings of songs and choosing the rights ones, deciding what concept of album to use etc. so it´s pretty early even for her to say if the album will be ready this year or next one.

While searching for JTW sales (haven't found anything BTW), I found an article saying that actually he's not the one who will release a new album this year... His label is going to "launch" its first newcomer.
It seems that Khalil said JTW would be his last studio album but he's not retiring, he'll be working behind the scenes or on other projects.

I also wonder if him signing with Warner is a good idea...

I am fine with waiting for a new album till next year, but these news are just messy. It would be much better if Jolin would stop teasing us and just simply told us: "it won't be finished sooner than June 2018" (for example). It is always better to work longer and prepare another decent album than hurry things. Her contract with Warner is obviously not a problem so she doesn't NEED to realease a new album this year.

Well, I wonder if they're going to put money into his music... When you watch the first two MVs from his new album, they're good, but they seem to have less budget than his previous ones which were also much better.

yeah, I noticed that his new MVs look kinda cheap, but I guess that's intentional. Like you said, he wanted to go back "to the roots" with his music. So not only his first two new tracks sound more hip-hop-ish but also his MVs now look like they've been shot in 00s.
I don't know .. maybe it wasn't intentional at all and I am the only one who has this feeling from his new work :-)
Even though, I still wonder if "back to the roots" (doesn't matter if musically or visually in music videos) was a good idea. I guess Will has more freedom now while he is under Warner, Coming Home was enterily composed by him and also the whole concept of album about "the artist who had a strange dream about giving birth to a baby alien whom he believes is his reincarnation" is made by him, but it is questionable if this "freedom" may help his popularity or not ... not mentioned that this new album concept sounds totally dumb to me :D I am really curious about sales ...but somethings smells like a flop here.

I think we would know about that clause by now, but yeah, everything is possible with Jolin :)


I don't know ... it is kind of ordinary song. But I don't consider it to be a single for new album (maybe it will be included only as a bonus track), so for now I am still waiting for "real" comeback track that will hopefully blow my mind! ;-)

I think the peak of her music was 2006-2010 for me. I love albums 1087, Diamond Candy, Miss Elva, then it was a downhill .. I am Ready and Shut Up and Kiss Me were so-so albums. It is pretty unfornute because I used to like Elva more than Jolin. But then, Jolin took a blast with her Myself album (and Muse .. and Play) and now she is uncomparably better, more inspirational, more musically advanced artist than Elva who has been wasting her chance for a past few years.

I only listened to album previews... And well it's listenable but this album seems to be weaker than his previous works.
At the beginning you have a few hip-hop songs, then you have 2-3 ballads, and the remaining songs are mid-tempo. Close Encounter (slow version) is actually an acoustic version, and it sounds way better than the original one in my opinion.

Jolin leaving for Universal is not even official yet: we know thanks to a few articles and thanks to Jolin's fanclubs.
But neither Universal nor Jolin have made it official. It's just an "open secret" at the moment. It will be official when a press conference will be held, so we might get more info at that moment?

I have to admit I find it weird that she seems so eager to release this album this year, when before she was like "lol I'll release it whenever I want to I'm not in a hurry".
EDIT: aMEI wants to release her album this year for it to be eligible for the 2018 GMA... Maybe that's why Jolin wants so much to release it this year too.

If Elva's album is indeed coming out in November, we'll most likely get the title song in October.

失眠 (Insomnia) from Will Pan's new album is plagiarized from a song by K-Pop boyband Beast (now called Highlight it seems?). I couldn't find the song's title but it has been composed in 2014 by one of the members, Yong Jun-hyung.

Co-composer 房振剛 Jhen apologized and took all the blame. He's a fan of the group and "unconsciously" put these notes from Highlight's song into Will's song.

Are there any fans of Singer Sen (歌者森) here? I really like her and she is really creative and talented, but I have not found any info on her/new music in years.

I'm over here like :grumpy at people saying Elva's Shut Up and Kiss Me was not a great album. I mean, it certainly wasn't I'm Ready, but I loved it as much as any Elva record I've heard. I just wish she would have kept up with the yearly releases from 2014 on.

So, I love A-Lin's new album, and I am a little on-off about Yanzi's new album. I loved Dancing Van Gogh and a few other songs, but nothing has really connected with me on this one or on Kepler like all the tracks on It's Time did. I do love that she returned to a more mixed sound of her older releases and her newer stuff from 2011 forward. I'm also disappointed that Radio wasn't on the new album. She did such a damn good job with that track.

As of right now, I am paying attention to Tanya Chua. She just released 貪圖/Pursuit of Happiness and this is the first song of hers that I've really connected to from the first note through the last. The mood is the perfect companion to the lyrics.

I also want to give my applause to Jam Hsiao for whatever the fuck 皮囊 Pi Nang's PV is. He's so goddamn adorkable.

Right now, I'm really just waiting for the next Jolin and Elva projects. I'm also trying to give myself enough listens of Rainie Yang to see if I can develop a likeness for her music. I love her concepts but I have never enjoyed the music side of her work.

Oh, and I'm completely entrenched in A-Mei again. But I can't expect anything different at this point. PARANOIA and AMIT2 were my favorites of 2014 and 2015, and Story Thief ended up being my favorite of 2017. Saved the damn year from all that bad music!

G.E.M is going to release 3 EPs til the end of the year to celebrate her 10th anniversary !
This 3 EP project is called "音乐童话三部曲" Musical Fairytale Trilogy.

The 1st one called 另一个童话 My Fairytale will be released at the end of the month worldwide, but it got an early release today in China (August 16th is her birthday as well). If there are any G.E.M fans here I can upload it in the DL section if you want.

Its cover is a drawing by popular Instagram illustrator Giselle Ukardi from Canada.


Why a fairytale as a project ? Basically G.E.M has grown up in those 10 years and realized that the real world and love are not a fairytale. When she's lost in the modern world, she uses music to create her own "fairytale".

There's a questioning in every song of the 1st EP. All of them have been written by G.E.M and Lupo Groinig.

Tanya's Kisses to the World is great. I can't get over how bad the cover is, but the entire album is pure gold. Such a great return for her after Aphasia in 2015 and having put out Cherished as a single. I can hear that she's really settled into this as her "sound" for now. And it's all great.

Heard Jolin's Guai Meide, and it's an interesting track. Jolin's clearly moved into a deeply artistic space with this album, trying to merge pop music with more creative and philosophical effort. I like the title track so far. It's a far cry from the sheer talent she displayed on MUSE though. But I'm curious. It's been 4 and a half years since Pei. I want Jolin to nail this release.

I'm holy hell excited for Sandy Lam's new album. The last I heard from her was Gaia in 2012. I loved her recent collab with aMEI. Also, I'm sad that aMEI doesn't appear to be willing to do another back-to-back album release. I still listen to Story Thief like it was just released. I loved the whole concept. I'd love for her to expand on Story Thief with another album of more mid-tempo/upbeat songs to complement it.

I need to check out Cheer Chen's album. And I loved the first of GEM's trilogy releases, but listening to the songs, it sounds like they came from the same recording sessions she did for HEARTBEAT. It's been 3 years. I'd like her to try a different chord structure and show some sonic evolution. It's not bad music; it's just not "great" for 3 years since HEARTBEAT. And let's not forget that HEARTBEAT was pretty divisive for her.

Also thoughts and prayers going out for Elva to make a return soon. She's all but disappeared from social media over the last several months. She was rumored to be working on a new album, but fell ill. She hasn't been very active this year, and it's already been four years since Shut Up & Kiss Me... which, again, was a divisive album. I miss Elva a lot.

Also, can Show please just pose shirtless?! He's always teasing. And I love him to pieces.

I'm listening to it, I love it ! From what I read, Tanya had depression for the past few years, which is why her music was depressing according to her own words. She feels better now, and is releasing a brighter album this time to apologize to her fans for releasing such depressing music before. That's not what she wants to leave behind. That's why this album is more joyful and full of hope, and why the album has a playful cover.

0 is on Spotify. Looks like this album only had a digital release... I haven't seen any pre-order on YesAsia or 5music for her.
aMEI has huge problems finishing Utopia 2.0 DVD/BD so producing a full album lol She also took some holidays this year, because her mother had cancer.

G.E.M, well, I have to agree with you. The 1st EP was good, but the others ones felt overall like a (bad) copy of the 1st one. And very sad that she dropped the Snow White concept for Woke because she was not satisfied with the MV.

Lots of mystery behind her condition but it looks like she snapped psychologically and physically during her album production because of the pressure she put on herself. It may still take some time, but I hope she will recover soon.

Aphasia and Cherished really touched me. I first heard Cherished and loved the calm introspective feel of the song. Aphasia completely blew me away. It was a very powerful record filled with beautiful production and a lot of powerful words. I'm glad Kisses to the World keeps so much of that sound but uses more vibrant colors. I went driving last night while listening to the middle part of the album and it's the perfect soundtrack for a midnight drive.

aMEI is really the only artist apart from Jay Chou that can take her sweet time between releases and doesn't have to make a deep effort to have a successful release. I love seeing her perform though. So, I'm OK with the wait if she's actually bringing a tour to wide release. My favorite aspect of aMEI is how amazing her personality is. I don't usually have strong emotional reactions to people, but watching aMEI prance around at the end of the video she did with Andrea Bocelli for If Only just made me feel so thankful for her existence.

I'd love for G.E.M. to leave the western sound for this next project. There's so much beautiful Chinese mythology and folklore she could use for this concept that would be much more creative and beloved. She's extremely talented, but I feel like she needs to meet with Jolin and get a sense for how to effectively cross an artistic experience with pop music. I feel Jolin has gotten so good at merging the two since she started working on MUSE. And G.E.M. feels like she's played in the pop music playground for long enough, just doing standard releases, trying a new thing here and there... it'd be amazing to see her release something on the level of Jolin's upcoming album.

I read some years ago that Elva was really down that fans were divided over whether Shut Up & Kiss Me was a good album. I personally loved the album, but genuinely felt it would have been more accepted if Elva was still releasing new music every year. A lot of the criticism I read, and somewhat agreed with, was that it had been 3 years since Wo Ai Wo, and for all that time, it sounded like it could have been released a year after Wo Ai Wo.

I personally think an Elva song of her making random noises into a microphone for 3 minutes would be great. I don't care if her PVs are her doing random dance moves while doing fish lips and crossing her eyes. I just love what she does. I'll look forward to it. But I do feel she's not so much a concept artist. She's someone whose albums are great for the moment and memorable for what they were when they came out. I still love Ms. Elva. I still love Wo Ai Wo. But I love them for being good music, not for being some higher expression of art. The more Elva we can get, the better.
