how do you say "Namie"?
 

so...is it "Nah-mee" or "Nah-mee-eh"? well, I say "Nah-mee" when I know its "Nah-mee-eh" because...i dunno, I guess I like it like that...well, do you guys call her by her actual name? or the slang name we would call her because it looks like its pronounced that way in English?

I say nah-mee-eh which is the correct pronounciation. I used to say nay-mee 2 years ago :D

It just wouldn't make sense to me to say "Na-mee" since I know her name IS "Na-mee-eh"....Now, if her name were actually spelled "Nami" then of course I'd pronounce it "Na-mee".

I've always called her Na-mee-eh, because...that's her name! :yes However, I like to type her name "Nami" once in a while, because that's my host sister's name and it's a horrible habit. XD

heh, I've always known her name is pronounced "nah-mee-eh", but I'm used to the english pronounciation of everything, so it actually took me a while to say "nah-mee-eh", even though it's pronounced the same way in spanish as it's in japanese :tipsy

When I look at Hiragana and Katakana, I see the "na" "mi" "e." That's the correct way to say it (Nah - me - ay) in Japanese terms. I would think that people would hate their name butchered. My boyfriend's last name is butchered all the time (oh boy lol) and so is my last name, even though it's so simple to say :mad

Na-mee=Nami which is a different name. Calling her Na-mi is like calling Ayu 'Yu-mi' (to me) without the 'A'. If you want to say it, I guess it's better to say right.

My boyfriend's last name is German.. and it's Geise. But people misprounce it by saying "Geese" or even "Goose." or even a variety of things. One time, it was written "Geist." O__O;;

Well, there's not really a choice as to how to pronounce her name. If it's pronounced wrong, it's not really her name. Rule of thumb with Japanese words/names? They're entirely phonetic. Pronounce each vowel.

Despite the fact that Sean is a very common spelling for a very common name, people mistakenly call me "seen" all the time. It drives me so crazy; I don't respond to it. :P

Na-mi-e, the right pronounciation. Whenever it's Japanese I'll try to pronounce in the correct way. Just like Hikki's name... Utada Hikaru --> do you call Utada Hika'l'u or Hika"r"u??

Actually, on her california interview, they asked her "is it oo-tada or you-tada?" and she said "either way is fine, I say oo-tada because it sounds more Japanese".

^I know a lot of people at my school who are from foreign countries and their names are buthered on accident all the time. So I do think there is something to be annoyed of. I guess it depends on the person.

But if someone is from a foreign country, they have to think that their name is going to be pronounced wrong. My name is "Amber", so if I moved to Japan I'd probably get a thousand variations:

"Amabaru"
"amubara"
"Amubaru"
"Amabara"

etc etc..

You can't expect foreigners to pronounce your name correctly, and if they do, props to them~

I can understand if people can't pronounce Chinese or Korean because the words are prounounced very differently from what they're used to. Nah-mee-eh isn't difficult for English-speakers to pronounce at all. I don't mean that people ought to be put to death for thinking it's pronounced Nah-mee, since they most likely haven't tried learning Japanese. It's just a pet peeve :P

I try to always stick to the original pronounciation of foreign words unless it's much too diffiicult to pronounce. But Japanese pronounciation is pretty easy to me.
