Female solo singers, recommendations?
I realized lately that my music folder is full of Japanese, mostly male, rock bands, and I think it needs a nice feminine touch.
Artists that I listen to: Ayumi Hamasaki. Akino Arai. Ami Suzuki. Anna Tsuchiya. AZU. Hitomi Shimatani. Kana. Koda Kumi. Leah Dizon. Nana Kitade. Nana Mizuki. Nanase Hoshii. OLIVIA. Utada Hikaru. I'm not really fond of singers like Namie Amuro or Ai Otsuka so anything other than those would be greatly appreciated. |
I reccomend BoA - I've started at OUTGROW and went on chronologically from there but her older works are very well liked.
ayaka - she's got a powerful voice and some of her songs really are great like CLAP & LOVE BONNIE PINK - she has some amazing songs and check out Thinking Out Loud for some of them; other songs I like are "Mint" and "Thinking Of You" hitomi - I've recently got into her music and my current fav by her is "GO MY WAY" I'll think of some more soon but maybe you'll like some of these :) |
I say you should give Fictionjunction YUUKA a try. =) I think YUUKA has such pretty vocals <3 Her music is traditional, but not the boring kind. But if you like traditional, then she's the one for you <3

Aiko Kayo or Satomi Takasugi.
Aiko's pretty idol/poppy, and Satomi's got a traditional/Japanesey sound. |
Shiina Ringo and Yaida Hitomi are both great in my opinion. They both have very rocker-esque voices that are the most unique I've heard in awhile. MISIA is also fantastic, but she's more a ballad (and occasionally R&B) singer with the voice of an angel.

I would suggest:
Mika Nakashima: All her albums are good especially MUSIC. Shiina Ringo: I suggest Shouso Strip, its what got me into Shiina. Kimura Kaela: For her I suggest KAELA and Circle, I don't really like scratch. Another good single of hers is Jasper. Rie fu: Her best work to me is her album Rie fu. BONNIE PINK: I haven't really listened to her older work but Thinking Out Loud is very good. If you can't find the downloads then you can PM me :). |

of course, there's my lovely Van Tomiko, of the defunct band, Do As Infinity. She has a deep unique voice and some amazing low-key music to go with it. Her solo music is mostly pop with some strong rock influences...if yu want some rock music, try her three singles...if yu prefer some unique, more low key music, try her three albums. *her third is coming out in march, but the main song w/PV is already out*
if yu like some vocoder-charged electropop, yu can try MEG...her recent music is as i described, but her older music was mostly pop/rock and last but not least, mink! She has a gorgeous, deep, sultry voice...and her music is the perfect complement to her voice...it's mostly r&b mixed with some soul. Her music is absolutely beautiful...i would recommend her cover of I Can't Tell You Why by the Eagles from her first album and Moonburn from her SHALOM album...she has a new album coming out this spring. |
