Rock'n'Roll Circus vs UNIVERSE

So J-Pop divas/queens/Gods Ayu & Kuu both released studio albums this year, Rock'n'Roll Circus and UNIVERSE respectively. Which was your preferred album?

For me, I'm gonna go with UNIVERSE. I like many of the songs on Rock'n'Roll Circus but I didn't exactly love the album as a whole, and the interludes were really bad (as in, working as interludes), as well as some really horrible songs like Sunset ~LOVE is ALL~.

UNIVERSE, on the other hand, probably has weaker individual tracks but the album as a whole worked very well and was very strong imo. Almost every song is good on here, even Comes Up wasn't that too cutesy till it was intolerable. And of course, there was No Way, one of Kuu's best songs everrrrrrrr.

Your pick would be?

Rock'n'Roll Circus by a BIG long shot

the singles are great & the album tracks are fabulous . The album tracks that got PVs , at least the PVs looked great & more expensive as compared to NEXT LEVEL's :P

also Rock music's my fave music genre & I think in general more people like Rock'n'Roll Circus a lot more than NEXT LEVEL as it's more well put together

probably going to London to record the album for the 1st time kinda helped things for ayumi in a way or 2 too xD

UNIVERSE on the other hand , I like the singles but the album tracks fall short to me . A lot of songs , I felt Kumi's vocals were very mundane/lazy & can't keep up with how great the singles were & some sound like poorer cousins of her past songs

like Work It Out sounds like a poor cousin of Run For Your Life to me

but No Way is fantastic & 1 of the few sparks in UNIVERSE & that goes for You're So Beautiful which's well beautiful

I listen to TRICK a lot more than UNIVERSE sadly

lol I say this kind of thing a lot when comparing something really bad to something really good but it sums up perfectly how I feel so..

the best song on UNIVERSE isn't even as good as the worst song on Rock 'n' Roll circus.

Rock 'n' Roll circus of course.

Rock n Roll Circus...

but uh...neither are particularly GREAT albums in my book...even though I like them both.

I still find myself only liking and listening to about 5-6 songs, including interludes, on both albums.

It's kind of hard for me to compare the albums though...because both of them live up to their individual artists' sound, and both albums have songs that are pretty....standard for their respective genres...

I think Rock n Roll Circus is just a bit better...but Kuu gets props for being consistent. Ayu's last albums have been kinda failing...so this one is like a breath of fresh air...which might just heighten my bias towards it...but whatever.

Rock'n'Roll Circus for me :yes Both albums are great though.

Rock'n'Roll Circus ! Universe sounds so cheap to me ~~!

~StarCatcher~ 20th April 2010 11:23 AM

I go with UNIVERSE.

I like RnR Circus, but UNIVERSE is again an album which I love from the beginning till the end without skipping anything=)

Personally I think
Rock'n'Roll Circus have strong album tracks but weak single tracks,
UNIVERSE have strong single tracks but weak album tracks,
but both album doesn't really have the WOW Factor.

I go with Rock'n'Roll Circus because the songs I don't like are bearable, As for UNIVERSE the songs I dislike are unbearable.

I voted for Rock'n'Roll Circus.

UNIVERSE was way better than Kingdom, and on par or a bit better from TRICK though it's still not one of my top favorite albums by kuu.
It had great album tracks like Step Into My World, UNIVERSE and Stay.
Except for Physical thing and ECSTASY the single songs were pretty weak for me.
It's not a bad album at all though! It's good!!

Rock'n'Roll Circus is my 2nd favorite album of all times, it blows most albums away for me because the albums tracks and 4 out of 5 of the singles' songs were very strong for me and I like the varied style in it and the rockier tracks (which is my favorite style). The album really made a big impact for me musically, more than other albums and it's almost perfect.
The main flaw is the flow mainly in the first ballad section (as Sunset ~LOVE is ALL~ is the main problem but it's not a bad song for me) and that's all.
Rock'n'Roll Circus - thumbs up!

As much as I love Sexy little things, BALLAD, and montage. I had to go with UNIVERSE. UNIVERSE just had more tracks that I really love. While Rock'n'Roll Circus only had 4, maybe 5.

TITANIC 20th April 2010 03:10 PM

UNIVERSE obviously

♥Rain 20th April 2010 05:00 PM

this is pretty difficult for me kinda. i love R'n'R Circus a lot. it blew her past album out the water for me but...but. i adore universe which has become one of my favorite koda albums. i listen to it pretty much everyday on the train and i never get bored of it.

Far Away 20th April 2010 05:10 PM

UNIVERSE for me, without a doubt. It's my favorite album from Kuu and probably my favorite release of 2010 so far. <3

freedreamer 20th April 2010 05:18 PM

As an album, i think the FEELING that UNIVERSE exudes is what Ayu's (m)u exudes for me. No doubt, I regard UNIVERSE as a greatly put together album, and her best after BLACK CHERRY.

However, going by emotional quality, I thinnk RnRC has some of Ayu's (once again) most personal songs. I can feel the emotion in the rock songs and at the same time the fun songs are also good. If I were to put a comparison song-by-song, Ayu would win.

Overall, I think Ayu won. PV wise, it's a shoo win. (UNIVERSE's new PVs were...=.=)
actually Im really having second thoughts LOL...but then I looked at the tracklist again, I realized ýes, Kuu's album has that all-round, full circle feeling but for me, some songs are Kuu's best, others are really recycled (just as if others were to say some of the songs on RNRC are recycled)

JackieRos 20th April 2010 05:48 PM

UNIVERSE doesn't compete

Pieces_of_SEVEN 21st April 2010 12:15 AM

R'n'RC for me. UNIVERSE was kinda crap IMO.

Kesteral 26th April 2010 03:08 AM

Universe hasn't stuck with me the same way that Trick did. Rock'n'Roll Circus on the other hand is a very solid album that I've been enjoying from start to finish since it was released.
