~*Introduce your country's artists/bands!*~

I have wanted to make this kind thread for so long that you can't believe it! XD And finally it's here!

The idea is to introduce some artist(s) or band(s) from your country.
Here's little instructions:
1. Introduce artist(s) or/and band(s) from your country.
2. Include short history of the artist/band. [You can use Wikipedia here if u don't wanna write : D]
3. Include 1~5 songs from the artist/band you are introducing.
4. If the artist/band doesn't sing in English, it would be nice to have English translation of the lyrics ^.^
5. Add picture of the artist/band if possible!
6. You can introduce 5 artist(s) and/or band(s) per/day.

Happy presenting!~

I start the actual thread in the post above.

From Wikipedia:
"Maija Johanna Vilkkumaa (born November 9, 1973 in Helsinki, Finland) a Finnish pop rock singer-songwriter. Beginning her musical hobbies at an early age, Vilkkumaa studied in high school where she and her friends set up the band Tarharyhmä in 1990, which broke up in 1995. While studying Finnish language at the University of Helsinki, she started to take singing lessons and went on to start her solo career in 1999.

Since 1999 to 2011, Vilkkumaa has released eight full-length albums and sold over 300,000 records,[1] becoming one of the best-selling female recording artists in Finland.[2] Met with commercial success, the singer — who writes and composes the songs by herself[3] — has also been complimented for being a key actor in reforming the art of Finnish song lyrics[4] and has received five Emma Awards, an accolade for outstanding achievements in music, awarded by the Finnish music industry."

Vilkkumaa is one of the most popular female rock singers in Finland. However, you either love her or hate her. Why? Because of her pretty unique voice and singing style. She has pretty raw-sounding voice, so if you don't like raw females, you gonna hate her : D

Here's couple of songs from her~

The first song, "Lottovoitto" has been understood as a critic of Finnish society and customs.
Spoiler:

Lottovoitto - Jackpot

Lyrics
Tänään ihmiset kyräilee
People are grumpy today
naapurit hurskastelee
Neighbours so pious
lähikaupan myyjä tuntee sun mummon
The salesman near by knows your grandma
se kutsuu kylään sä et mee
She invites you to visit, you don't go

Sullon kassissa passi ja vaatteet jo
You have your passport and clothes in the bag already
sukkikset hammasharja, lompakko
stockings, toothbrush, wallet
kirjoitit kirjeisiin: maailma soi
You wrote it to the letters: "The World is ringing"
mä lähden kun jäädä en voi
I'll go, as I can't stay either

Tänä yönä vihdoin
Tonight it's finally happening
sä pääset pois
You'll get away
tästä paskamaasta
From this ****** land
täällä miehet tappaa toisiaan
The men are killing each other around here
ja sit sanotaan et
And then they say that
olishan se hienoo
It would be so wonderful
jos näin ei ois
If it wouldn't be so
tää on silti lottovoitto
Nevertheless, this is a Jackpot
torvensoitto aamunkoitto
Sound of the horn, daybreak
kaiken korjaa koeta unohtaa
It will fix anything, try to forget the past

Tänään selvemmin
You know it clearer today
sä tiedät sä et tuu takaisin
You aren't coming back
tänne jääkööt muut ja tehkööt kaiken
They can stay here and do all the job
niin kuin esi-isät aiemmin
Like their ancestors before them

Joo täällä sua haukuttiin huudeltiin
Yes, you were abused, yelled at here
hellittiin kaulailtiin suudeltiin
Cherished, loved, kissed
kuule kun maailma kaukaa soi
You will hear the sound of the World's ringing far away
sä lähdet kun jäädä et voi
You'll leave as you can't stay either

Tänä yönä vihdoin
Tonight it's finally happening
sä pääset pois
You'll get away
tästä paskamaasta
From this ****** land
täällä naiset tappaa toisiaan
The women are killing each other around here
ja sit sanotaan et
And then they say that
olishan se hienoo
It would be so wonderful
jos näin ei ois
If it wouldn't be so
tää on silti lottovoitto
Nevertheless, this is a Jackpot
torvensoitto aamunkoitto
Sound of the horn, daybreak
kaiken korjaa koeta unohtaa
It will fix anything, try to forget the past

Kumarra siniristii
Bow for the blue flag
saat olla juoppo et nisti
you can be a lush but not a junkie
jos huudat sä oot ehkä terroristi
If you yell you might be a terrorist
ei saa vaivata ketään
Shouldn't bother anyone
pitää kätellä setää
You must shake hands with uncle
väsyneet hävitetään
The exhausted ones will be wiped out
älä luovu mistään
Don't give up anything

Vihdoin
Finally
sä pääset pois
You'll get away
tästä paskamaasta
From this ****** land
täällä lapset tappaa toisiaan
The children are killing each other around here
ja sit sanotaan et
And then they say that
olishan se hienoo
It would be so wonderful
jos näin ei ois
If it wouldn't be so
tää on silti lottovoitto
Nevertheless, this is a Jackpot
torvensoitto aamunkoitto
Sound of the horn, daybreak
kaiken korjaa koeta unohtaa

This is more happier sounding example from her. One of my favorites <3 Name's "Kuiskaile suu" [Whisper My Mouth]
Spoiler:

Kuiskaile suu - Whisper My Mouth

Lyrics

Hei poika vai ootsä mies
Hey boy or are you man
Mihin oot matkalla
Where are you going?
Sul on silmissä ulpukoita
You have patterdocks in your eyes
Ja sammakon poikia
And little polliwogs

Mistä sä ne sait
Where you got them?
Mistä sä ne sait
Where you got them?
Mistä sä ne sait
Where you got them?
Mistä sä ne sait
Where you got them?

Hei poika vai ootsä mies
Hey boy or are you man
Pääseekö syliisi
Can I be on your lap?
Sul on paidassa kahvitahra
You have a smudge from coffee in your shirt
ja suussa on timantti
And diamond in your mouth

Mistä sä ne sait
Where you got them?
Mistä sä ne sait
Where you got them?
Mistä sä ne sait
Where you got them?
Mistä sä ne sait
Where you got them?

Heiluu ruoho kasvaa puu
Grass waying, tree growing
Kuiskaile suu
Whisper my mouth
Kuiskaile suu
Whisper my mouth
Äänet vaimentuu
The sounds are abating
Hei kuiskaile suu
Hey, whisper my mouth
Kuiskaile suu
Whisper my mouth
Supise supata supise supata
Whisper, murmur, whisper, murmur
Supise Sutapa supise supata
Whisper, murmur, whisper, murmur
Mun huulet avautuu
My lips are opening
Hei kuiskaile suu
Hey, whisper my mouth
Kuiskaile suu
Whisper my mouth

Hei poika vai ootsä mies
Hey boy or are you man
Mitä sul on taskussa
What you have in your pocket?
Ehkä tyttöjen numeroita
Maybe phone numbers of the girls
Ja valokuvia
And photos

Mistä sä ne sait
Where you got them?
Mistä sä ne sait
Where you got them?
Mistä sä ne sait
Where you got them?
Mistä sä ne sait
Where you got them?

Heiluu ruoho kasvaa puu...
Grass waying, tree growing...

Ewa Farna
(i disliked her when she came back to Poland, cause she debuted with polish "version" of Miz - In the sky song ~it's called Tam gdzie nie ma już dróg if you like to hear it on youtube~ This song it's pretty crappy, but I really like her songs since 2010!)
http://mtvema.mtvnimages.com/2010/im....jpg?width=512

From wiki: Ewa Farna (born 12 August 1993) is a Polish pop rock singer from the Czech Republic. She was born in Třinec, and belongs to the Polish minority in the Czech Republic. Farna released three studio albums with Czech lyrics, which sold platinum in the Czech Republic and were later re-recorded and released with Polish lyrics. Farna is the youngest commercially successful singer in the Czech Republic. She is set to perform at the 2010 Teen Choice Awards with her new English single.

So she sings in Czech and Polish.

Some of her new polish songs:

My favorite Ewa song, Czech lyrics

i really like the video too~

Rough english translation from "Maska" chorus
("Mask")
Take off your mask
I know that is not easy to recognize your real face
But just let's try, if you know that fame can easily go down
And the journey of your dreams is closer
Take off your mask!
Go into the neverending abyss
And know your real face
Believe that the day with the right feeling will come
So don't be afraid and shout it loud
I am taking off my mask! It's me!

Rough "Ewakuacja" ("Evacuation") english translation (also by me)
Spoiler:
You can ask me how I am
But the thing I would say
Won't be these words you would like to know
The journey won't absolve from sins
The place I am touching heaven
You have your end, I have my start.

I know one thing
When I am doing everyyhing againts everyone
That it's why the dreams exist

Chor:
I want to live through every day
And dream every single night, right through the end
I got thousands of my own matter
But also a fear in my eyes
Suddenly an alarm rings in head
The crowd's race, I am running to the other way
Don't go there, help yourself by your own
I know what I am doing, look at me
It's my own fire.

We have such a beautiful face
With the cover of lies
I got enough of soft words
They're boring

I know one thing
When I am doing everyyhing againts everyone
That it's why the dreams exist

Chor:
I want to live through every day
And dream every single night, right through the end
I got thousands of my own matter
But also a fear in my eyes
Suddenly an alarm rings in head
The crowd's race, I am running to the other way
Don't go there, help yourself by your own
I know what I am doing, look at me
It's my own fire.
I am burning.

It's my life
I announced an evacuation
And within these stairs of friends
Came a houndred of them

Chor:
I want to live through every day
And dream every single night, right through the end
I got thousands of my own matter
But also a fear in my eyes
Suddenly an alarm rings in head
The crowd's race, I am running to the other way
Don't go there, help yourself by your own
I know what I am doing, look at me (I know what I am doing,)
It's my own blaze
I am burning. Run!

Today there's a party in the ghetto
You may come, wel
Mixing everything in the world
let's see what happens

There's people of every race
and race of every faith
Rock n roll eletrict guitars
and candomble drums

Go there, and see
the tribe members moving their bodies
and the floor shaking
Black mother asked to invite you

And said (x4)

That there's will have a party
There will be
the people from the ghetto

Sorte Grande (Greatest Luck)

Spoiler:
The greatest luck in my life
was when you falled from the sky

Living all the emotion
winning your heart
and being happy for my entire life

Your beautiful smile
and the spark on your eyes
my cherub angel
the sweetness of your kisses
the warmth fo your arms
your smell of jasmine

You came into my area
and took control of it
with your great love

Spoiler:
My heart, with no direction
flying just for the sake of it
Without knowing where to go
dreaming on finding you

And the stars
that I noticed today
on your eyes
the stars will guide me

If I didn't love you so much
maybe I had lost the dreams
inside of me
and lived in darkness

If I didn't love you so much
Maybe I didn't see the flowers
on my way to come here
inside my heart

Now I know, I loved you
in the winds of a storm
but I went far way ahead
of the times of the hurricane

On the desire
on a kiss
that was the best one I ever had
and the stars give me a signal

If I didn't love you so much
maybe I had lost the dreams
inside of me
and lived in darkness

If I didn't love you so much
Maybe I didn't see the flowers
on my way to come here
inside my heart

MARISA MONTE

http://www.culturamix.com/wp-content...a-monte-02.jpg
From wikipedia:
Quote:

While classically trained in opera singing, she grew up surrounded by the sounds of the Portela samba school, and combines diverse influences into her music. After failing to break through 1980s Brazilian Pop rock she went to semi-exile in Italy where she met the famous producer Nelson Motta (soon her boyfriend). Thereafter she became a hybrid of MPB diva and Pop rock performer. While most of her music is in the style of modern MPB, she has also recorded traditional samba and folk tunes, as well and songs performed by Marvin Gaye, Lou Reed and George Harrison. Much of her work has been in collaboration with musicians/songwriters Carlinhos Brown, Arnaldo Antunes, and Nando Reis, and producer Arto Lindsay. She has also worked with foreign artists such as Laurie Anderson, David Byrne, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Julieta Venegas. In 1996, she contributed a version of "Waters of March", in a duet with David Byrne, to the AIDS benefit compilation album Red Hot + Rio produced by the Red Hot Organization. She also collaborated with Bonga and Carlinhos Brown on the track "Mulemba Xangola" for the AIDS benefit compilation album Onda Sonora: Red Hot + Lisbon produced by the same organization. Again, in 2011, she contributed a collaboration with Devendra Banhart and Rodrigo Amarante "Nú Com A Minha Música" for the Red Hot Organization's most recent charitable album "Red Hot+Rio 2." The album is a follow-up to the 1996 "Red Hot+Rio." Proceeds from the sales will be donated to raise awareness and money to fight AIDS/HIV and related health and social issues.
Marisa Monte is unique as a Brazilian artist due to the fact that she owns the rights to all of her songs; it was the main demand to renew her contract with EMI Music.[1]

Quote:

Brooke Gabrielle Fraser Ligertwood, better known as simply Brooke Fraser (born 15 December 1983) is a New Zealand award-winning folk-pop musician. Her third studio album Flags has become the most successful album of her career, with the single "Something in the Water" reaching number one on the RIANZ singles chart in 2010.
Fraser is the eldest of the three children born to former All Black, Bernie Fraser[1] and his wife Lynda Fraser.[2] She grew up in Naenae, Lower Hutt and attended Dyer Street School, Naenae Intermediate School and Naenae College.[3]

Fraser took piano lessons between the ages of seven and seventeen. She started writing songs at age twelve and taught herself the acoustic guitar at fifteen, although despite her singing success she has never taken singing lessons.[3]

She performed at Parachute, an annual New Zealand music festival in 2000 – including a special guest performance in 2007.[3]

She began writing for the Soul Purpose magazine at age fifteen, and was later made editor in 2002. She gave up her job as editor shortly after moving to Auckland in late 2002 in order to pursue her music career.[
4]
Even though Fraser has enjoyed success in her career for many years, she has always used her position to highlight many worthy causes and charity projects, and raising large amounts of money for them in the process. In late 2010 whilst on tour in the U.S. promoting her third album Flags, Fraser, in conjunction with charity: water ran a birthday campaign asking her fans to donate $27 in honor of her 27th birthday. The goal was to raise $50,000 to build clean water wells in Ethiopia.[25] Joining the likes of Justin Bieber,[26] Will Smith[27] and Adam Lambert[28] Fraser's birthday campaign was a success raising over $54,000 dollars. She has vowed to continue her work with charity: water on future projects.

The only one that is very popular among my people at the moment (and that I know of lmao) is a group called "Sudden Rush", compiled of a girl and a guy.

I am Hmong, and I personally think the Hmong language is beautiful. The Hmong people are not widely known...yet. Our community is still fighting to get our names into textbooks.

The video has English translations within it (although the video in the background is obviously not the music video).

TESLA BOY

http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/1484/x481ad37f.jpg

Tesla Boy is a Russian synthpop / new wave band formed by Anton Sevidov, Dima Midborn and Poko Cox in late 2008.

http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/8108/xbf572559.jpg

The band started by recording a five-track demo entitled "The Tesla Boy", distributing it amongst friends and on the internet. It was later published under the title "The Tesla Boy EP." The promo CD features full artwork by DW Design studios. Bloggers took note of the demo, describing the band's music as "some of the most exciting electronic music of the year", "the best thing to come from Russia since vodka" and "the finest pop group in the world today". The band were quickly booked for sold-out concerts in many major Soviet cities and headlined three major Russian music festivals: Afisha, Stereoleto and MIGZ.

http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/2...aboytbpng1.png

Since August 2009, the band has been signed to the British label Mullet Records. The label released the aforementioned demo "The Tesla Boy EP" along with a "The Tesla Boy" remix EP, and the band's debut LP "Modern Thrills" in May 2010, which was followed by the three singles "Electric Lady, "Thinking Of You" and "Liberating Soul".

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/7658/x0905bc17.jpg

I really love this band, I have seen them live twice and both were great. I remember how they gained popularity through the internet back in 2009 and I was so excited about them too. They are Moscow-based band and I was living in Saint-Petersburg, so when they made their debute on my town's stage, it was the huge success. They are not popular in mainstream actually, but only among indie, hipsters and so on.

TESLA BOY - FIRE
this is my most favourite tesla boy's song

TESLA BOY - SPIRIT OF THE NIGHT

TESLA BOY - ELECTRIC LADY

Try them if you like 80s music, synthpop, bands of Valerie Collective and like Cut Copy.

@YUKARI I'm so happy that u like it! ^__^ Btw, Tesla Boy do sound pretty 80's!

And now, for the next artist!

CHISU
http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...2010_chisu.jpg
Stage name: Chisu [real name: Christel Martina Sundberg]
Born: January 3,1982 (age 29)
Debut year: 2008
Genre: Pop
Language: Finnish
Main studio albums:
Alkovi (2008) [Alcove]
Vapaa ja yksin (2009) [Free and Alone]

From Ilosaarirock Festival site (2010):
"When it comes to Chisu, it's probably at least reasonable to talk about a person with multiple skills: she is a distiguished singer, composer, lyricist, arranger, recorder, producer and musician. In addition to her two solo albums Alkovi (Alcove), released in 2008, and Vapaa ja yksin (Free and Alone), released in 2009, you might also have heard Chisu's touch in many other productions ranging from the Idols contestant Antti Tuisku's music to the soundtrack of the ghost ride in Särkänniemi. Some people just know how to do it!

Chisu made a surprise appearance by slipping through the back door of the music industry when her first single Mun koti ei oo täällä (My Home Is Not Here) rose to the top of radio charts. But when she released her second album last year that she became familiar to practically everyone: to both hit channel listeners and the music freaks who spend their time delving in the reviews in music magazines. Vapaa ja yksin is a brave, original and creative tour de force that at times has a very cinematic feel to it. The worlds and atmospheres of the songs vary from intensely dramatic situations to small playful moments, with Chisu's charming voice holding it all densely together. The more modern features blend fluently together with aspects familiar from old popular songs, taking the listener from one surprise to another. The themes of the lyrics are also varied. It's possible to sing about heartache and love on the same album that has lyrics about depression and fairies, just listen!

The stunning quality of the album didn't go unacknowledged by critics either, and Chisu was also a seven-time nominee for 2010 Emma Awards."

Chisu has really pretty voice and I like many of her songs.

One of my all time favorite is this one below, called Baden-Baden.
At the time of recording, Finland was in bad recession. This song has quite imaginative conclusion to it!
Spoiler:
~Music video of the song~
Lyrics

Yks päivä olin surullinen ja rahaton
One day I was sad and all broke
Olin saanut potkut töistä kun tää lama on
I got fired from my job since we have this recession
Mä päätä raavin, mistä käärin edes yhden setelin
I scratched my head, where could I get even one note
En kyennyt ku itkemään mutta siitä keksinkin
I couldn't do anything but cry but then I got it
Mä pullotan mun kyyneleet ja myyn ne Saharaan
I'll bottle all my tears and sell 'em to Sahara
Missä niitä tarvitsee tuo kuiva karu maa
They will be needed in that dry and bare country

Mun ideasta kuuli itse presidenttikin
Even the President herself heard about the idea of mine
Tuumi tässä ratkaisu ois vientiongelmiin
She thought "Here's the conclusion to our export problems!"
Tuotanto halpaa ois, on Suomi varsin masentunut maa
The output would be so cheap, Finland is quite depressed country
Ja Afrikan sijaan Euroopasta isommat rahat saa
And instead of Africa, Europe would give better earnings

Siis pullotetaan kyyneleet
So let's bottle our tears
Myydään ne Baden-Badeniin
And sell 'em to Baden-Baden
Missä Suomen murheet pumpataan suihkulähteisiin
There the sorrows of whole Finland will be pumped into fountains
Joo, pullotetaan kyyneleet junalla Baden-Badeniin
Yes, let's bottle our tears and then straight with train to Baden-Baden~
Missä niissä kylpee turisti ja toinenkin
Where there will be bathing a single tourist with many others

Niin kansa itki ja talous nousi pian jaloilleen
So the nation cried and the economy was soon better
Ja ilo alkoi muttei riitä pelkät onnenkyyneleet
And the joy began but tears of happines just aren't enough
Hallitus mietti pitkään miten tääkin kriisi ratkaistaan
The Goverment thought long how they would settle this crisis
Kunnes joku muisti miten alkoholivero poistetaan
When someone remembered how to take out the alcohol tax

Ja taas pullotetaan kyyneleet
And again we are bottling our tears
Myydään ne Baden-Badeniin
Selling 'em to Baden-Baden
Missä Suomen murheet pumpataan suihkulähteisiin
There the sorrows of whole Finland will be pumped into fountains
Joo, pullotetaan kyyneleet junalla Baden-Badeniin
Yes, let's bottle our tears and then straight with train to Baden-Baden~
Missä niissä kylpee turisti ja toinenkin, uuh
Where there will be bathing a single tourist with many others, ooh~

EDIT: since you guys seem to like Chisu, I'll add another song from her! ;3
Oh, and nice to hear that there is Finnish music lovers!

Here's a playful and cute song called "Saaliit" [Preys]
Spoiler:

Lyrics

Oot kuin elohopeaa
Yuo are like quicksilver
Sä oot nopea
Ya are quick
Mmm
Mmm~
Voi kuinka sun jalat pelästyy
How ur feet are afraid
Kun sun rintaa lähestyy
When they are approaching ur chest~
Mmm
Mmm~

Sä tuut ja sä meet
U come and u go
Sun nopeet askeleet
The quick steps of urs
Kaikuu mun huoneissa
Are echoing in my room
Ja joka nurkan takana
And behind every single corner
sua vaanii mä ja mun vasara
U got stalked by me and my hammer ♥~
Jotta sut lattiaan
So I would
mä naulattua saisin
Nail you into the floor~

Oooou
Oooou~

Viikko sitten niin
me yhteen palattiin
We were back together
ja eilen erottiin
And divorced yesterday
Mmm
Mmm~
Ja lähipäivinä
And by days to come
mä tiedän että sä
I know that u
tartut mua kädestä
will hold my hand ♥
Mmm
Mmm~

Sä tuut ja sä meet
U come and u go
Sun nopeet askeleet
The quick steps of urs
Kaikuu mun huoneissa
Are echoing in my room
Ja mä ihmettelen vaan
An I'm just wondering
mikä saa sut aina palaamaan
What always gets ya to return?
oi, jos vaan pyytäisit
Oh, If you just asked
niin samantien sut naisin
I woud marry u straight away ♥~

Oooou
Oooou~

Mut sitten kappas vaan
But then, well well
viesteihis ajallaan
I'm not answering
en enää vastaakaan
to your messages in time anymore
mmm
Mmm~
Enkä viime aikoina
And not so recently
lauantai-iltoina
In Saturday evenings
oo ollu kotona
Have I been in home
mmm
Mmm~

Ja nyt sä tuut ja sä jäät
And now u come and u stay
et mee mihinkään
U aren't goin' anywhere
vaan vaanit mun huoneissa
Just stalking in my rooms
ja sä ihmettelet vaan
And u are just wondering
mikset mua saakaan palaamaan
Why I'm not returning with ya
no koska sun säätäessä
Well, while ya were botchin' up
toiseen mä rakastua taisin
I just might have fallen in someone else ♥~

Oooou
Oooou~

Oooou
Ooou~

I tried to translate it as cutely as possible : D~

CaseNumber:825 12th June 2011 11:02 PM

Hmmm, well this will be interesting, considering Britain has a equal proportion of good singers and terrible singer XD

I think I'll choose a singer that people always seem to forget about

Natasha Bedingfield

http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/z...5/natasha1.jpg

Quote:

Natasha Anne Bedingfield (born 26 November 1981) is a British pop singer and songwriter.

Based in Book St., London, Bedingfield debuted in the 1990s as a member of the Christian dance/electronic group The DNA Algorithm with her siblings Daniel Bedingfield and Nikola Rachelle. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Bedingfield recorded rock and gospel songs for the Hillsong London Church, while Daniel went on to enjoy success with hits "Gotta Get Thru This" and "If You're Not the One".

Bedingfield released her first album, Unwritten, in 2004. The album contained primarily uptempo pop songs and was influenced by R&B music;[1] it enjoyed international success with over 2.3 million copies sold worldwide[2] and she received a Grammy Award nomination for "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance" for the title track "Unwritten".[3] Bedingfield's second album, N.B. (2007), was less successful but yielded the UK top 10 singles "I Wanna Have Your Babies" and "Soulmate". N.B. was not released in North America, but six tracks from it were included with seven new ones and released in 2008 as Pocketful of Sunshine, with the singles "Love Like This" and "Pocketful of Sunshine" earning success on the charts. In December 2010, Bedingfield released her third album in North America named Strip Me.

Some of my favourite singles from her

Unwritten
A nice song with a really nice message. Mid-tempo, but also uplifting.
Spoiler:

Single
A very upbeat song with another positive female-empowerment message. She's not putting down relationships and men in this song, but what she's doing is not saying that being in a relationship is her main focus in life.
Spoiler:

These Words
A purely fun, upbeat, summer love song. I do love the lyrics in this one, they're a lot of fun, as is the beat.
Spoiler:

I Bruise Easily
The only really true ballad I've put on here. Not one of my favourite all-time ballads from her, but it is my favourite that was released as a single.
Spoiler:

I'm also going to show a singer who is extremely British. As in, Londoner-type British. Not posh in any way

Lily Allen

http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/z...Allen35328.jpg

Quote:

Lily Rose Beatrice Allen (born 2 May 1985) is an English recording artist and talk show host. She is the daughter of actor and musician Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen. In her teenage years, her musical tastes evolved from glam rock to alternative. Allen abandoned school and concentrated on improving her performing and compositional skills. Afterwards, she created several demo songs, and near the end of 2005, she created a profile on MySpace, where she made some of her recordings public.

A contract was signed with the label Regal Recordings, as the views on MySpace rose to tens of thousands. In 2006, she began to work on completing what would be her first studio album and its first mainstream single "Smile" reached the top position on the UK Singles Chart in July 2006.[2] Her debut record, Alright, Still, was well received on the international market, selling over 2.6 million copies and brought Allen a nomination at the Grammy Awards, BRIT Awards and MTV Video Music Awards. She then began hosting her own talk-show, Lily Allen and Friends, on BBC Three.

Her second major album release, It's Not Me, It's You, saw a genre shift for her, having more of an electropop feel, rather than the ska and reggae influences of the first one. The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and the Australian ARIA Charts and was appreciated by the critics, noting the singer's musical evolution and maturity. It spawned the hit singles "The Fear" and "***** You", popular mostly in Europe. Allen and Amy Winehouse have been credited with starting a process that led to the media-proclaimed "year of the women" in 2009 that has seen five female artists making music of "experimentalism and fearlessness" long nominated for the Mercury Prize.[3] In September 2009, Allen stated that she sees no way that she could ever make a profit making new records. In August she announced her pregnancy and began a hiatus.[4] During autumn 2010, Allen opened a fashion rental shop "Lucy in Disguise" with her sister Sarah and for the second time had a pregnancy not come to term.[5][6][7] In 2011 Allen launched her own record label.[8]
Some of my favourites of her singles:

Smile
Her debut single. A simple break-up in which she hates the guy who broke-up with/cheated on her. The video is hilarious though XD
Spoiler:

LDN
A sing about the 'joys' of London, with a video that shows exactly that. Hilarious and lots of fun. It really shows the dirty, dark parts of London. Not that there aren't nice parts of London, those are the parts of London that the tourists flock to.
I live in the country ^_^
Spoiler:

***** You
I love the lyrics in this song. Plus, yet another very upbeat, fun song. Even though she's talking about hating people.
Spoiler:

Well, there's two quite different female pop artists from England. Enjoy ^_^

Kanzaki 13th June 2011 04:00 AM

I'm going you to introduce one of my favorite, danish music acts.
_

Annika Aakjær

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...eefc04ac_z.jpg

Annika Aakjær (Born 6 July 1982) is a Danish singer, songwriter and guitarist.

She is one of the first was included in the new songwriter training at Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. Her first album "Little philanthropist" reaped praise from critics who predicted on her a great future. The second album "Missionary" also got good reviews. She starred in 2009 in Anne Dorte Michelsen's financial crisis cabaret and appeared in 2009-2010 in music cubits "Come Together" on the Eastern Gasworks (theatre).

Annika Aakjær was nominated for 2 steppe wolves (award) in 2009 and won "the one hope of the Year" and in 2010 nominated for P3 Gold in the category of "Talent."

Annika Aakjær stars as Daimi in a new film about Dirch Passer (Danish actor, 1926-1980) in 2011.

Studio Albums:
2007 - Little Philantrophist
2010 - Missionary

In my own words, I think she is just superb. She writes modern folk-pop and is not afraid to point out the flaws of society. Her lyrics often involves fear, fear of not doing what you want in life and just choosing a comfortable life, fear of death, fear of life etc. She covers The Beatles songs with excellency and sings with a rough, yet silky voice with a lot of character to it.

Spoiler:

Title song of her second album 'Missionary' (in danish; 'Missionær')

Translation (just a small portion of the lyrics)

"We see a movie to get us in a good mood
For we have read somewhere that there are many who do so
And we finally got each other persuaded
And as I lie here and see that it's probably not that bad

And when we finally lay here
In perfect missionary
I think a little about our homeland
Whether I could be something else"

This song is about choosing comfort in your life or choosing to follow your dreams. So, yes, missionary is actually her singing about the position :laugh since it is regarded as the most ordinary position in bed - a parallel of her position in life, as an obedient girlfriend/wife. It's hard to explain, but nevertheless, a masterpiece of a song imo.

Spoiler:

"Det bedste for mig selv (the best thing for myself)" -8th track of off her second studio album 'Missionary'.

Translation of a portion of the lyrics:

'The trains are late again
and many will probably be home late
no one could've known
and it even came as a total surprise to DSB (danish train company)

I sprang from life
took things for granted
and without saying goodbye
I did the best thing for myself

to many people's annoyance
there's now closed at my station
because there is quite a lot to clean up
where I left my body'

This song has got to be one of the saddest I've ever heard. The lyrics are, as many of you probably can tell, the ones of someone who commited suicide by jumping in front of a train. There is just a lot of emotion in this song, lyrically and melody-wise. It is so non-cryptic, honest and just horrible. In a good way.

Some of her really, fantastic covers:

Spoiler:
You've got to hide your love away

Spoiler:
Happiness is a warm gun
