Ayu vs Beyonce's Run the World (Girls)
Did anyone else see a lot of similarities between Ayu's previous PVs and Beyonce's Run the World (Girls) PV? I mean things like the colouful costumes that the girls are wearing is like beautiful fighters and real me, the car being blown up as in Virgin Road, and the military type theme in Mirrorcle World? Oh and not to mention the dogs as in do it again?
Please see the video below http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBmMU_iwe6U |

PLEASE NOTE THAT I DESPISE BEYONCE. Therefore writing the following statement is like typing on a keyboard of acid...
Beyonce did not copy Ayu, she just happened to get a bigger budget for this video. |
1:55 reminds me of "do it again" XD

"Run The World" is hardly revolutionary (or good), but making a laundry list of obscure similarities between it and 10 years worth of Ayu's videos just seems... well, strange. Reaching, maybe? I don't know. I mean, we could say that some of the images rattled off are common symbols used in a lot of visual (pop) art. Seeing as both Ayu and Beyonce sell a similar image (the powerful diva), there's bound to be some overlap in the symbols used. But the cinematography is completely different, and we're picking out things as vague as "colorful costumes." And a burning car that's not even shot the same way... If that's our criteria, where do the similarities end? I guess I don't understand what's there to discuss.

-The "end of the world" theme is a trend right now, so, tons of people are using it
-The colors of Beyonce's video are part of the African aesthetic she is using for this era -The hyenas came from something Beyonce read saying that in some African countries powerful men (or kings, can't remember) use hyenas as their pets, as a symbol of power -Beyonce's fans joke that she enjoys blowing up cars, as she did it on Crazy in Love and Diva before... Blowing up cars on music videos aren't anything new anyway... -Beautiful Fighters comes from it's kawaii animeish aesthetical choice -Real Me colors are also more reminiscent of sci-fi anime -Ayu's blowing up car comes from the action movie theme of VR pv -Military theme is also VERY common in pop music... Ayu used it before, Beyonce used it before and I can't think of any female performatic pop star that never used it... Still, can't see anything similar on RTW and MW aside the military beat on both songs |

Didnt see much similarity. Though I hope to see ayu dance like beyonce in her next pv >.< the last time she 'dance' was Rule =/

Beyonce did not copy ayu

These things was on the music videoes everywhere before, duh. Ayu's not a mentor, a lot of her videos are not really THAT creative.
|
I pretty much agree with everyone else. Ayu is not the "end all, be all" of music video creativity. She's far from it. Therefore I don't think Beyonce imitated her. Aspects of both videos I've seen in other music videos especially during the 90's. Nothing new here.

oh jesus ****ing christ

It's so obvious that Ayu invented blowing up cars. She's the creator of that.

Gee, If you guys are going to be rude and Negative about what other people's opinions are, then why bother being on here and posting - is not everyone allowed to have their say? I never said that Ayu invented these concepts, all im saying is that there are many things in her videos that were done before other western artists did them.. This is my first topic that i have started on here, but now i am regretting doing so.

Beyonce is unique in her way, so is Ayumi. But seriously, those things you just mentioned which also might appear in Ayu's previous PV's have seriously no freaking thing to do with Beyonce's recent videoclip. You are looking too far, mate. But what statement did you wanna make? That artists are now copying Ayu, or what? No seriously, I am curious and try to say this not too rude. |
