Who in J-Pop is well known for being an amazing dancer?

I never really pay much attention to dance, but I was thinking about how in the West, Britney Spears used to be known for being an amazing dancer, and Beyonce has always been known to be a brilliant dancer.

But who are the most well known artists in Japan who are equally as well known for their dancing? I'd say it used to be BoA. And I see Namie Amuro dance a lot, but from what I've seen it's nothing heavy?

As far as technic goes... BoA is by miles the best dancer in Jpop... Sadly, when she gots to her best, she was already not that big...

Namie is well known for being Japan's top dancing popstar... And even when she was at the lowest point of her career, she was regarded as Jpop's top dancer...

Koda is also considered to be a good dancer...

Considering acts that archieved the top of the game at some point, those are the 3 biggest singer-dancer Jpop had...

Namie had heavier choreography early on her career, but she made it softer so she can dance and sing at the same time... Heavy choreography needs lip-synching^^

Namie Amuro and BoA are the only really big J-Pop acts that I know off that are known as dancers

Other acts like Mitsushita Yuya and Daichi Miura are known in their circles as good dancers :)

BoA. If you want groups too, the EXILE family of artists focuses a lot on dancing as well.

Huaka 8th July 2011 08:09 PM

Seconding Miura Daichi! He's awesome.

sesshy 8th July 2011 11:46 PM

100% agree with Huaka. Daichi Miura is absolutely amazing. I first saw him when he collab with BoA.

I can't think of anyone else since my music is mostly R&B and rock in Japanese.

I don't see that Namie's dance moves are soft O.o
She dances like there is no tomorrow.

I would say Namie and BoA

Yeah, I would say that is the biggest difference between her and BoA. BoA is a great dancer, but her best dance performances are usually lip synched. When she is singing live, her dancing generally suffers a lot. Still though, when taking just the dancing by itself, she is very good.

Namie is really good at both singing and dancing together but can never really dance 100% full out because she is usually singing live (and in stiletto heals). Her hardest choreography period was actually the middle of her career between 2000-2005. After that, she changed choreographers and her choreography has never quite been the same quality since then. Also her earliest days with the Super Monkeys had a lot of more traditional dance moves such as double/triple turns, hitchkicks, leaps etc.

Speaking of Boa, this performance of her is awesome. You get to appreciate how hard it is to do dancing and singing.

w-inds is not bad either! I love them. This is really old but the dancing is way too intense for a song like this. Haha. Their new stuff is the dance-ish stuff that's popular in Korea.

You might be more familiar with this song since Ayu sang it with them:

Namie Amuro and BoA are the only ones that pop into my head. And oh let's not forget Shu-Ya with his ballerina dancing :laugh

CHE.R.RY 11th July 2011 07:30 AM

For me...Namie, Kuu, & BoA!

Damita 11th July 2011 05:02 PM

BoA definitely! Namie is pretty good too.

RayJason 11th July 2011 05:14 PM

Namie Amuro, especially in her Full Moon performances.

Nice choose of example, this is one of her best choreographies she did in Japan imo.

For me BoA >>>> the rest but maybe I'm biased.

Andrenekoi 11th July 2011 05:51 PM

Even having a strong dislike for BoA, I totally agree...

AyuHamasaki01 11th July 2011 06:52 PM

I'd say BoA and Namie Amuro. Although I think Koda Kumi is good dancer too :yes

TITANIC 11th July 2011 11:21 PM

SPEED, 4 of them are Namie's junior from the same school okinawa.

Huaka 12th July 2011 02:22 AM

Matsushita Yuya?

emi♡ 17th July 2011 07:04 AM
