Why are K-pop fans so....

...I'm not exactly sure of the correct word :( 'Intense' maybe??

What I mean is why do some K-pop fans (and I don't mean all K-pop fans as I myself am one) act so crazy over their fandom?

I'm trying so hard to avoid making it sound like I'm saying 'they are deluded and crazy' but I think maybe thats the only way I can get this across lolol Its like no matter what their favorite act does; they are always right, the whole world is against them and every other person in the world is a hater if you don't agree with them. It's completely insane!! It is impossible to have a rational conversation with some of these people.

For example (this is not directed at JYJ/DBSK in anyway its just an example of a crazy fan) I once commented on a topic (not at AHS btw) about JYJ's first album. I happened to say that I didn't like it very much, which I think is a perfectly valid opinion, but then reams (I mean seriously like 20 or 30) of these "fans" replied telling me I was a hater, that JYJ were so better than me and about 6 told me they were going to "bash me with the JYJ frying pan"...

And its not just JYJ fans before anyone has a go at me. I never seem to see this in J-pop fans. Yeah you get the odd troll that likes to annoy people but you can ignore that.

Am I the only person thats noticed this???

ExodusUK 20th July 2011 11:59 AM

They probably have some sort of syndrome that makes them socially inept.

emi♡ 20th July 2011 12:01 PM

No, you arent the only one...and I know its kind of one of those "we cant generalise all people" types of things, but, god, lets just be real....the kpop fandom scene is just insane.

And yeah, anyone can be this way, but...after you've seen crazy twitter trend wars, and fans harassing photographers, and artists, and people just ruining careers, and then can we mention the amounts of suicides we get....

I mean, after a while, you just have to scratch your head and say, "What the hell is going on in Korea?"

Seriously....and I know some people have seen it worse than me, cause i'm not even in it that much...and I've seen some crazy ****...and I have no explanation other than theyre just crazy...so, I'd really like to know too.

pommy48 20th July 2011 12:03 PM

Yeah I would love to know too...Even though every country has their own crazy stans, but it just seems there's a lot more in Korea.

I would love to know what would cause some of those stans to send idols their dirtied pads :thud

TofuBunny 20th July 2011 12:45 PM

aww can I just say thanks for trying to be polite about it :heart

It's a huge fandom and all these have their own brand of crazy, I had to deal with some delusional fangirls myself :no Some Cassies and ELFs can be exceptionally scary.

But what can we do, it really just depends on where you hang out online .. If you want to avoid them just stay away from Allkpop (or pretend the comments section doesn't exist, that's what I do), Koreaboo, and 50% of the tumblr kpop population.

Some of the batshit-crazy-but-harmless ones are even funnier than trolls though :laugh .. The stuff on Kpop Secrets are so hilarious :roflmao .. "OMG YOUR OPPA STOLE MY OPPA'S BALLOON COLOR" .. "GUYZ YOONA IS MY BFF AND SHE READS KPOPSECRETS AND YOUR BASHING MAKES HER CRY STOP PLZZZ" .. "THINKING OF DOOJOON HELPS ME POOP !"
( I wish I was making these up but I'm not that creative)

y_nathz 20th July 2011 02:01 PM

lol ikr :roflmao

I'm a kpop fan myself. a huge but still somewhat sane one, and I found the crazy kpop fans are sometimes funny :laugh
but most of them are scary and thinks their oppars and unnirs are gods or whatever xD

it's really annoying when I hate a release, posted my opinion and get the fans bashing me, I mean I stan the same band with you, why did you bash me for not liking a release ? o_O

and I really don't get most of the people at allkpop.. -_-
I hate how most people thinks that all of the kpop fans acts like that, normal fans existed too -_-
they shouldn't judge how all of us behave only from allkpop .__.

AyUmIXx 20th July 2011 03:01 PM

I'm a huge kpop fan as well.. i've been following kpop since 2008..
and to tell the truth, I'VE NEVER BEEN THIS TIRED in MY FANDOM LIFE before!
Kpop ent is sure THE MOST TIRING EVER!
but most of the time, i try so hard to calm myself down and just ignore whatever those ppl wanna say about whom i like..most of the time i just rant few tweets (thru twitter) and then that's it.

the hardest thing for me, u know, when i love two artists/groups at the same time, like example JYJ and SNSD.. even though i love JYJ more.. but it really hurts me to see some of the JYJ fans bash on SNSD or vice versa just because they are more successful or whatever stupid reasons. some of the fans tend to hate SNSD or any SME artists just because they are in SME company who's in legal dispute with JYJ..
i mean, what's the relation of other artists with JYJ that make you so HATEFUL..wanna hate... then just go bombard the company.. n leave the artists alone.. but guess that will never happen~

and know what, the funniest is that i ever found in my country's kpop fans..
they even created a forum for SNSD-haters, the purpose for the forum is to bash SNSD and to discuss any negative things about the girls...just about anything.. sometimes i feel that they are even more updated than the real fans. that's just so funny. and also they sell SNSD-haters goodies like t-shirts, stickers, etc... That's totally insane!! earning money with such negativity purpose.

it's also funny that when there's question to each fandom, "which fandom is the scariest?", each fandom will start pointing finger... cassies gonna say Sones, sones gonna say elfs, elfs gonna say sones, and etc etc..
where in fact the majority, it's actually ALL THE SAME lols~

kpop fandom is TOO OVER~
also the power of kpop fans that they could make avex CEO, Masato Matsuura to shut his own twitter down. LOL~

Raiu-Ayu 20th July 2011 04:02 PM

^The whole Max twitter thing is what made me ask this if I'm being honest lololol I saw the article at TokyoHive and was like "awh why are they harassing him?? He hasn't done anything wrong :(". Most of TH was pretty much the same response but then I noticed that the same article was over at allkpop and WHOA!!! Some of those *****es are NUTS!! X_X'

Also what makes me laugh is the fact that some fans of the same fandom argue among themselves because one person has a bias for one member and one for another 0_0 I mean what the hell is THAT?! Surely if your a fan then you like the music not just one person?? Its crazy.....

(also I'm glad no one is attacking me over this cuz I didn't intend this to be a bash K-pop fans thread :))

AyUta 20th July 2011 04:02 PM

i know, its crazy. allkpop is bad, so i do stay away and just read the posts. or i wait for kristel to post the articles. and yes, emiko's right. you see that and you wonder why there are so many suicides in korea. it's just so intense and unecessary. :(

koumori 20th July 2011 04:07 PM

In the last few weeks I've got more into K-Pop, but from hearing the rumours, I'm going to stay away from any discussion :laugh I just get the music and listen to it...there's enough drama around AHS for me to willingly join a forum knowing there's loads.

Maybe it's because the idol scene is bigger in Korea? People like to think they're the 'biggest fan', especially with idols...it can get really obsessive. Saying that, I've talked to some really freaky AKB48 fans, only for the fact they boast about knowing everything about them...stop right there, I find it impressive you remember all the names :laugh lol

ExodusUK 20th July 2011 04:10 PM

Didn't one fan write a letter to some boyband member with her period blood and sent public hairs too? So gross.
I've also heard at big concerts where lots of bands and acts perform in one night, fights breakout between fanbases and there's been reports of fans throwing anthrax and chemicals into crowds of other fans.

AyUta 20th July 2011 04:13 PM

^ wha? that's disgusting :dead2

there's also cases where fans run onstage and attack the performers. like...take for example taeyeon, who was pulled offtsgae during a run devil run performance. and also wheesung who was almost kicked by a fan who climbed onstage. crazy.

Raiu-Ayu 20th July 2011 04:18 PM

I have heard of anti-fans doing quite a but of damage to people. I think the most famous one is the girl who tried to poison Yunho by putting super glue in a drink :(

AyUta 20th July 2011 04:23 PM

^ Geez, talk about extreme. that's horrible :( i hear about kicking and attacking, but not trying to kill....

chu-lips 20th July 2011 04:39 PM

over blindly k-pop netizens need to learn how to tie their shoes and grow up...
i'm tired looking and hearing their attitude...
and as u know in my biggest nation forum all k-pop fans r hated because of their childish attitude..
they are spamming every time some one make a negative review about their idol..
they act as if their idol is the best and the most original idol in the universe...n afterward they bashing other artists...
what a.......

Raiu-Ayu 20th July 2011 04:41 PM

Actual fans are just as bad. Poor Taemin of SHINee got bullied at school just because he was in SHINee. People used to take photos of him, follow him, harass him, etc... and some of the worst ones claimed to be his fans X_X'

Midori-chan 20th July 2011 04:46 PM

Mhm, I have heard horror stories about KPop-fans too. At first I didn't want to believe them, because I thought that they were way over the top, but I have started to like KPop quite a bit in the last few weeks and have already encountered enough crazy fans to know that these stories are not just rumours, but the sad truth!

I mainly listen to JPop and the behaviour of the KPop-fans scares the ***** out of me, to be completely honest. There are disillusioned fans in the JPop-scene too, but they can't beat the KPop-stans!

I don't get their behaviour! Can't you just enjoy the music and/or the personalities of the people/bands you like and leave the other singers alone?
If you don't like a band, then say so once and be done with it. Bashing them or even threatening to kill them goes TOO FAR!!

noisy_harmony 20th July 2011 05:11 PM

Deleted my previous post because it seemed to be kinda... Defensive? I don't know :laugh

Well, everything has been basically said already. I don't think anyone can answer to your question, if it isn't a rhetorical one. All I can say is that's better to just concentrate on music and positive sides of the fandom. For example, I'll be always in awe how korean fans are organized, creating all these projects to support their idols.

And he requested his management and company to not take charges. Ugh say about a pure heart this guy has, but seriously, the things I would do to that girl and other "fans" :/

well actually with the max twitter thing,

Spoiler:
that happened because max himself couldn't control of what he should tweet n shouldn't tweet. when the lawsuit started, he has been giving too much unclear information regarding to JYJ vs SME situation and that caused the fans speculating themselves n taking conclusions by those unclear tweets. and i understand that the fans are so mad at him and avex which is sad. I was so surprised to know that Max could tweet too blatantly the matter which was supposed not to be told in a place like twitter. in short that Max is liked a two-faced person, u know, like one time he said that the current agency's CEO that JYJ is under rite now was recommended by him, that the CEO was a good person, etc.. but then,,few months later, then he twisted his own words, saying that the CEO was not good person at all, that he was someone who involved with gangster before, things like that. you know, Max is being inconsistent with his words.

that's why, few days ago, when the issue of a chinese singer who stole JJ's song and claimed as his own, JYJ's fans were so mad and started to accuse avex/max for giving that song to the artist, then Max came to his defense saying that he didn't know anything about that, but for JYJ's fans, it's too late already, fans are not believing in what he said anymore coz of his previous unprofessional tweets. then that lead to him closing his own twitter.

I don't really blame the fans for doing so coz having their favorite artists being blocked in Japan/Korea are quite saddening for them already, including me too,but I don't blame max too. but it's better than Max could just ignore what those fans tweeting to him and don't reply any of it, specially not giving out what's supposed to be internal information. it'll just lead to another speculations.

but then, it's all too late, it has happened and Max/avex is hated for the entire JYJ fandom already.

sigh it seems the problem has become worse T__T

talking about fans of the same idol group... sigh.. u know what ever happened to one of Super Junior's fangirls in Korea?
a fan who was used to be fat appeared in a show called star king with a new look then after the show, she took a pic of him with Yesung, if i'm not wrong, then all the other fangirls were so angry and started to accuse the girl for having plastic surgery to look slim, and all the harsh comments on her blog every single day. after getting lots of bashing comments on her blog, she thought she couldn't take any longer, in the end, she committed suicide. SO PITY~~

ah~ yea if talking about the kpop fans positive side, yea they absolutely have! like noisy_harmony said..
they are really loyal to the artists, they'd give any gifts to them, name it, the latest electronic devices, instruments, even i heard they gave car before. branded clothes and bags are whole lot already. we can see that the artists' mostly every day clothes are given by the fans haha~
but the thing is, if they can buy those expensive stuff, but why they couldn't help the artists to boost their domestic CD/DVD sales?

AyUta 20th July 2011 05:24 PM

^ :( That's so sad...poor girl, that makes me crazy angry, no one deserves such hurt.
