Is hitomi one of your favourite Jpop singers?

I feel bad for her, regarding her career...though it's her fault for taking too long breaks when she was gaining momentum after SAMURAI DRIVE.

emi♡ 30th October 2011 02:16 AM

No. I like her, and she's totally gorgeous.

But I strongly dislike her music. I've never been one for that pop sound.

Oh yeah, I don't really care for her voice either. Was never into that type of voice in Japan.

and idk...I kinda feel like her career would have gone this way anyway. Her kind of female pop solos have been replaced by the girl groups, no? I dont think she can compete with them.

The early 2000s era of japanese music is just...over.

YUKARI 30th October 2011 03:09 AM

No. I remember she was popular some time ago tho.

pommy48 30th October 2011 03:14 AM

No...not at all really :thud

I'm just not a fan of her voice~

JackieRos 30th October 2011 04:08 AM

She's a friend of Ayu, debuted as a TK produced Avex act in 1995 and at one point wasn't far behind Ayu and Hikki in terms of popularity.

Spoiler:

People always compare Ayu to Koda, Utada, Namie, etc but hitomi and Ayu are the most similar in look, sound and artistry IMO.

YUKARI 30th October 2011 07:32 AM

I remember I used to like one her song... I guess it was WISH.

oh i love hitomi! :)

but yeah, when things slowed down, i sort of lost interest. but she made great stuff! i own LOVE LIFE & LOVE CONCENT.

bondingo 30th October 2011 07:52 AM

Definitely not. She has a few good songs, but that's about it. To be honest, it makes sense why she hasn't really maintained her popularity over the years.

hsienko 30th October 2011 08:44 AM

She definately one of my favorites. However I think her career is the way it is for a couple of reasons:

-whenever one of her songs was popular/a hit, she never fully capitalized on the popularity and success and instead took a break within a year or so.

-somewhere along the way I think she herself lost interest in her own singing career and starting focusing more on other ventures and her personal life

-i dont think japamese people really dig her style of music

Especially that second reason is probably why she has low sales and all of her new releases and projects just fly under the radar.

letter 30th October 2011 04:40 PM

I've heard about her, but I haven't listened to any of her music.

Chibi-Chan 30th October 2011 05:24 PM

I really like her, but she isn't one of my favourites.

Fitst 30th October 2011 05:33 PM

The cancer after huma-rhythm really hurt her career, and she never really tried to regain any kind of popularity after that.

She doesnt really seem to care how well her albums or singles sell.

I disagree though, she was very popular from her debut era until huma-rhythm. I think she feels it's enough for an artist to be very popular for almost a decade. Maybe she just wants to do what she likes these days and doesnt care about sales and promotion.

hsienko 30th October 2011 09:42 PM

Her sales didn't really take a nose dive until after Japanese Girl. I think her changing to a more dance-pop sound really hurt her too.

koumori 30th October 2011 10:23 PM

Not really. She has a few catchy songs but she really doesn't seem to have the strength, vocal range or musical ability to keep up a career. Some songs are good, granted, but none are really passionate (not the ones I like, anyway~), or show who she is, what she stands for..just dancey songs. I'm not surprised her career hasn't lasted, unfortunately.

the_last_kira 30th October 2011 11:55 PM

YES! I :love hitomi's career!!!

rusuke 3rd November 2011 05:04 AM

hitomi was one of my fave Japanese artists. I like most of her songs but I didn't like her recent release.

SURREAL__RAINBOW 3rd November 2011 08:49 AM
