Sarah Connor or Tohoshinki?

Sarah Connor released "Under My Skin" in August 2008 and Tohoshinki released "Mirotic" in September (Korea) and October (Japan) 2008.

Of course the two tracks are the same composed piece, but they aren't arranged in the same way. So, which version do you like more?

Although I love the five boys, I have to say I like Sarah's version more. It's sexy as hell! (lol, the album the song is on is actually named "Sexy as Hell"). Especially I'm not very fond of the message of Tohoshinki's lyrics and video, I think it's questionable.

I absolutely love Sarah(I still hate myself for not having talked to her when she walked past me on the streets once xD that was before I was a fan of hers...I saw her twice on the same day but didn't even get an autograph...), but in this case I do like both songs - the chorus just has a nicer melody in Sarah's version to me, it doesn't feel as cut off.

^yeah, I have to say what bothers me most by Mirotic are the lyrics... After reading the translation I can't enjoy the song as much as before.

mirotic

Ok, I always wondered why Tohoshinki had to sing in live performances "I chose you under my sky" instead of "I got you under my skin". I know the reason was that the lyrics were "too provocative and overly sexual". But I just don't get it... xD I mean, is there any hidden meaning by this line? lol When I think of "Under my skin" I think of the Avril Lavigne album... Of course it has a sexual content here, but I don't get why it should be that dramatic. Can someone explain (or send me a PM in case it's really to sexual and against forum rules...)? Please, I can't get this out of my mind and wonder the whole time... xD

I always figured Korea was just very tough on sexuality as soon as it was expressed in lyrics, the singers can dance suggestively in short outfits and be sexualized to hell, but as soon as they actually sing about it it's over.

I'll take the powerful, independent, blunt sexuality of Sarah over the repressed urges of Korean boygroups any day. Could you link Tohoshinki's lyrics? I never read them.

100 times this! Sarah's version of the song does exactly this, it shows a powerful, independent woman, who isn't ashamed of her sexuality.

Here is the Korean translation: http://minsarang.wordpress.com/2008/...-translations/
And here the Japanese translation: http://miroticdbsk.blogspot.de/2008/...ic-lyrics.html

Tohoshinki's version just does the complete opposite to Sarah's. Obviously the guys sing about a girl, something else woudn't be imagineable for Japan and Korea. They sing about a girl they control and they do not care for at all. I don't have anything against sex without being in a relationship, but from the lyrics it seems the boys hasn't any respect for the girl at all and the whole point is, like said before, control. I really have enough of this macho behaviour. And the video doesn't make it any better. A witch bewitching the guys but in the end she melts away...
The symbolism of women as witches who bewitch men is so old and cliché. I thought we would be over the "woman who is possessed by the devil, who seduces a man and he can't do anything against it, it isn't his fault" thing. But despite that the guys are bewitched, in the end they have the power and control the girl, like in the lyrics, what is symbolised by her melting away.

Sometimes I wish I wouldn't have looked up the lyrics of a song...

Those lyrics...I can't believe they have so many female fangirls while singing that...
I love sexuality - and open expression of it-, but it has to be voluntary and without such a huge negative bias against only one party.

After reading the lyrics I wasn't sure if I should laugh or cry... I mean lines like this:
"It’s not me, my still chrome heart
It’s the road you chose Oh~"
Yeah girl, I mean come on! If you're so dumb, your fault!

Idk each to it's own. I like asian pop because the sexuality is not so visible like in western music. I don't really like that everything has to be sexual and every singer dances almost naked in the music videos.

You do realize that most popular Asian singers and groups are just as sexualized if not more sexualized though? Take a look at Ayumi for example, she's not one to sing about sex, but the Duty cover is one of the most sexualized album covers I have ever seen.
Asian Pop sexuality just tends to cater to either fetish or more sublime sexuality(that is just as strong)

(I can see how you like the lyrics not being as "in your face" about it though)

Chibi-Chan 23rd December 2012 09:12 PM

^I mean the whole idea behind boygroups is sex...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrsnYBKdLJA <-- the dance... hot

Boygroup Success Formula:
Take 4-7 guys that all speak to a different kind of fetishized image(for example: "Boy Next Door"/"The Cute Dorky One"/"The Untouchable, Confident, Cool Sexy One"/"The Vulnerable One"...) and mash them together to create many little schoolgirl orgasms around the world.

Chibi-Chan 23rd December 2012 09:26 PM

^:roflmao TRUE! xD

Oh, can I add the "beautiful and androgynous but cool and sexy one"? That's my favourite! xD Like Jejung of Tohoshinki... lol

Yea I know, but I like that more, being sexy does not mean being half naked to me. I like that kind of sexuality more, even if it's the fetish kind of perversy. :laugh

Chibi-Chan 23rd December 2012 09:45 PM

^LOVEppears... :laugh

By the way, here would be the dance version of the PV, including only the important scenes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3d9ZOctCmw

I like that type, too :innocent That and the "untouchable, athletic, cool one"
Nothing wrong with liking it as long as you know what's going on and it doesn't manipulate you :innocent
