Mademoiselle Yulia (マドモアゼル・ユリア, stylised as MADEMOISELLE YULIA), born August 10, 1987 in Tokyo, is a Japanese DJ and musician associated with the Tokyo electro scene. She debuted in 2008 as a DJ, and in 2011 as a singer, with her debut album MADEMOWORLD.

In high school, she begun her musical career as the lead vocalist and guitarist of a band for six years. The four member band performed punk, techno-pop and garage covers, taking inspiration from The Clash and Kraftwerk.

Yulia began organising parties in her second year at high school in 2005. She was inspired to create her own electro DJ event in Tokyo called Neon Spread, after attending a similar DJ night in England. In 2008 she was signed to EMI Music Japan and released her debut mix-tape of the electro music featured in the events of Neon Spread. Mademoiselle Yulia began regularly attending DJ events and parties 2008, and met M-Flo rapper Verbal as they would often attend the same events. In late 2008 and 2009 she began to be featured on many albums as a collaborating artist, with many of these releases featuring Verbal. These songs included appearances on Teriyaki Boyz' second album Serious Japanese, Towa Tei's album Big Fun, and a solo track of hers produced by Verbal, What Now?, featured on M-Flo's third outside collaborations album M-Flo Inside: Works Best III. She also made a guest appearence in CL's The Baddest Female PV in 2013. In 2011 she released her own original album, MADEMOWORLD, and plans to release her second in 2013, titled WHATEVER HARAJUKU.

She has performed in concerts and DJ events with artists such as Towa Tei, M.I.A., Dexpistols, Shinichi Osawa and Boys Noize. Outside of music, she writes a columnist in fashion magazine Nylon's Japanese edition, designed jewellery for accessory brand Giza and briefly hosted a show on music channel Space Shower, Mademoworld. Deliciously put-together tread :heart
I'm really excited for new stuff, I recently got into her music. Anyone who hasn't listened to her yet should!

pommy48 20th August 2013 06:22 PM

I really liked Moonlight Express from her last album

I've been repeating that clip of HARAJUKU WONDER for days! :luv2

ayufan- 20th August 2013 06:47 PM

I can't wait for the Harajuku Wander musicvideo, I really want to see it already >.<

koumori 20th August 2013 07:03 PM

I remember being absolutely obsessed with MADEMOWORLD back in 2011. I can't wait for new stuff, it's been far too long! The music video clip sounds okay, but I'm hoping the full-length ver. sounds a little better. By the way...is it just me that prefers the MADEMOWORLD cover to the WHATEVER HARAJUKU cover..? I don't know, the new style seems so immature and not professional compared. :shrug

relmy 20th August 2013 10:30 PM

Mature is one of the last words I put next to MADEMOWORLD, I do think the cover is less refined though.

I'm so excited for this, her first album was awesome. I still play Zodiac Gold and GIMME GIMME now.

Well, I meant more that it looked like a school kid designed the new one :laugh I do really love the first one though, but all the colours and clashing design on WHATEVER HARAJUKU..I don't know...I just want to know what was going through the designer's mind :tipsy

ooooh im so excited

I missed your thread!

Thank you for making it <3

Very excited for her next album, but I'm a little concerned with what sound she'll come out with tbh...especially with that cover. I really hope she keeps the darker, dancy, electro, but we'll see!

New interview with BLOUIN ARTINFO. It's in Japanese, but there's some new promo pictures. :) In the interview she talks about hoping to support artists overseas, and that in WHATEVER HARAJUKU she's trying a wider range of music than before. There's probably a lot more information, but that's all I could get out of it. :tipsy

Just listened to a short ver. of that song off her new album. She's hot! This is what J-Pop has been missing. She's got a lot of spunk and style.

zellyx 26th August 2013 08:17 PM

just listened to Gimme Gimme, and.. wow. Can't believe I haven't heard of her before!!!

ayufan- 28th August 2013 08:22 PM

NintendoHTF1242 28th August 2013 08:55 PM

OMFG I am OBSESSED with this bitch! She is EVERYTHING I've been missing from Japanese pop. Hot booty-poppin' music with a great look.

koumori 28th August 2013 09:02 PM

HARAJUKU WANDER is catchy, but it's missing that oomph of GIMME GIMME or DOWN DOWN for me. But thanks for sharing the longer version :) Her look has been flawless so far in this era.

pommy48 28th August 2013 10:15 PM

The song is so addicting! And all the colors :luv2

There's some youtube links to some of her songs in the first post :) (under the banner) She's got a few solid pop-electro songs already. I'm surprised not more people know her at AHS, hence the thread - I really think people here will enjoy her stuff.

emi♡ 29th August 2013 10:05 AM

fuck me that's my girl. You just can't teach that style.
