What phrase or words do you notice ayu frequently using?

I just realized that she uses the phrase "If one of my wishes could come" in a few of her lyrics. Secret, MOON, untitled, etc.

I just randomly thought about it while listening to Secret.

Are there any that you guys have noted?

"Ano hito"
"Aitsu"
"La la lai"
"Nee"
Anything about "ai"

The wings thing, like "if you only got one wing" "rest my wing" "u have wings behind your back" "i'll give my last wing to you" etc
in ANGELS SONG, November, Secret, Endless Sorrow. and i probably forgot some more?

She uses some combination of "kimi" or "anata" (you), "aitsu" (that guy/that girl/him/her), "ano ko" (that kid/that child/that little girl), and "boku" or "watashi" (me) as a set - they seem to refer to stages of her life when she does so. She does this in immature, Heartplace, fairyland, Marionette, and Wake me up.

She refers to herself as only having one wing in at least "Endless sorrow" and "Secret."

The lyrics to "Catcher In The Light" and the chorus of "Sparkle" both say "If you just stand there looking at it, it'll never be yours."

In "And then" she makes reference to two lines in "A Song for XX:" "The sun is coming up now. I have to go soon. I can't stay in the same place forever." / "I guess I did say that I couldn't stay in the same place forever. The sun's gonna rise - before that, let's leave this city together."

She has a few other overarching concepts that come up often... a fear of the future, difficulty putting feelings into words, losing something & wondering how it would be to get it back again, reactions to people who pass by her, the imagery of flowers and in particular their ability to bloom despite their fragility, requests that someone lie consistently so she can believe it's true regardless, the finality of saying "farewell" versus saying "see ya" like it's no big deal, the differences between reality and dreams or ideals, thoughts she has while looking up at the sky, making choices & taking one's own destiny into one's hands... There are a ton of common concepts she uses to illustrate her feelings & her life.

She talks about people's backs a lot

Quote:

I'm walking on today
Looking at your back as a guidepost to live - walking proud
Quote:

As always your back is
So small and unreliable - teddy bear
Quote:

I can’t see your back anymore, you’re too far away - BALLAD
Quote:

All my thoughts are taken up by your back as I saw you off for the last time - Liar
Quote:

Your small back is telling me so, because you've gone through the nights
When you were weeping alone with your arms around your knees, wo wo - Born to be...
Quote:

But the back you are showing
Looks small and trembling - Like a Doll

Lots of references to "the city", being one winged (herself and Mannie in November)...she uses a lot of the same motifs.

I can't pick any phrases off the top of my head but words on the other hand...:

Wings
Back
Days

And obviously:

La la la
Whoa yeah, whoa yeah
La la la lai

I read in a manga awhile back (Kobo chan I believe) that there is a saying that says sth like "Children grow up while watching their parents' back" like your parents is the one walking before you so you only see their back, and by seeing their back you witness their hard work in order to raise you.

Going from that thought, the back phrase extended into people who protects you or people in general. Sometimes someone can look so unreliable from the outside (small back or weak stature) but inside they're carrying a heavy burden on their back.

Chris85 15th May 2015 12:12 PM

different forms of verb kizutsuku.

Griz Lee 15th May 2015 04:38 PM

every form of the word "cry" :D

ayumisrael 15th May 2015 05:04 PM

"tadoritsuku" in any form -YOU, Dearst, Free & Easy, Moments, criminal, BLUE BIRD

But I think that some of the words/sentences/phrases are popular in Japanese songs in general, not especially used by ayu only or mainly.

Yasashii (in its forms and + uso aka lie) aka gentle/tender, for example:

"anata ga yasashiku mitsumeru shisen no
saki de wa hosoi kata o shite'ru
kanojo ga yasashiku shiawasesou na kao de
warainagara unazuite'ta" - is this LOVE?

"Yasashiku watashi o terasu hoshi ga hikatte" - HEAVEN

"Yasashii uso tsuita mama ni shite" - GUILTY

"Yasashii uso da nante iranai kara" - snowy kiss

"Yasashisa ni kaetekureta kara" - JEWEL

Mabushii aka dazzling is the one of them too (examples in English):

"It's so dazzling to me" - About You

"Emit a light so dazzlingly" - Will

"The freedom you have is so dazzling" - Pride

"The season I was with you was the most dazzling one" - It was

And so on...there's so many common phrases!
