Especia are an idol trio composed of Haruka Tominaga, Erika Mori and Mia Nascimento. There were 10 members when Especia were formed in 2012, but the number eventually went down. The group moved their activities from Osaka to Tokyo last year.

Especia are notable for their throwback sound and are often called "vaporwave idols". Their music is mostly influenced by 80s city pop, funk and disco.

Why did the member number go down over time from ten to three over the past few years?

Is curious to see all the spanish titles like Gusto, Carta, Dulce, Amarga, Primera, and Especia as the group name.

I have not heard of them. They sound very interesting. Especially the vaporwave part. I'll have to check them out.

more recently, 3 members left after especia decided to move their activities from osaka to tokyo. i'm not really sure what happened with the other girls, though...
the number actually went from 10 to 2, but they added mia to the group last year!

they've managed to sneak some italian and portuguese into their song titles as well!

I used to love them so much! GUSTO and CARTA are masterpieces <3 But I've lost my interest after the members left. :(

I actually interviewed Especia's producer during the release of CARTA (because they collaborated with a brazilian producer): https://thump.vice.com/pt_br/article...ro-pop-japones (it's in portuguese tho)

but aren't you excited about the fact that they have a brazilian member now? :syesyes i can definitely see why you would lose interest, though. there's been quite a shift in image and sound.

After checking them out I really like them.:thumbsup
It is nice to see a group do something different. I actually think I like their newer stuff better. They seem less idol like now and more like a music project or group.

!

OMG!!! I didn't knew about this. :O Yeah! They realy changed the image and sound... It's more "mature" now but I really enjoyed how different they were... I think their former producer is not involved with this new era anymore. In their official website it's only listed the albuns from the new record label.

I really love their first music videos:

it's cool that they're exploring new stuff while still remaining true to their essence. can't say i don't miss the cheesiness of their music and the silliness of their videos, though!

the only thing that's really bothering me is the fact that all their songs have been entirely in english ever since they became a trio, aside from the danger b-side :no

I'm not that familiar with Especia but I do like Saviour!

especia have announced their disbandment and final tour :(

they were truly a breath of fresh air and not just in the idol scene. sad to see them go.

Bigtop 17th January 2017 11:14 PM

We just created this thread last week, and now they announced they're disbanding? WHAAAAAT????? WHY?????

omg...... that's so weird and sad. :( I kinda expected that because the girls were just objects of a label and producers. Hope they can do solo works and have success with it.

Wow, I didn't even have the chance to become a fan.:no

pedronekoi 27th March 2017 03:20 PM

They just released a last album called "Wizard" and it's some kind of Best of including songs from their EPs and singles.

All the songs have different arrangement/vocals. I'm not sure if they re-recorded with only the three current members but everything sounds different (what I didn't really like). It's available on Spotify.
