Ayu getting blocked from the #1 Spot Three Years in a Row
 

I was just browsing the top yearly selling albums in Japan and I noticed something really frustrating for Ayu.

The years from 2000 to 2003, Ayu's albums were all #2.

It's crazy that she was SO CLOSE to having a #1 album in Japan for 4 consecutive years.

Such a legend.

2001: Utada Hikaru

Yeah that’s frustrating. I always wonder why none of her studio albums surpassed 3 million copies...

my guess is that she always went to the next one kinda fast so people moved on with her lol

It was probably just her output and also someone else just always doing better. Not really a problem though since #2 is fine.
