Samples in Ayu’s music used by her and other artists

Have you noticed when an artist uses a sample from another song? For example, I’m a huge fan of the German digital hardcore band Atari Teenage Riot, and the first time I listened to Ayu’s “Sparkle”, I instantly recognized a sample of one of their songs.

WhoSampled also says Disco-munication has a sample of “Need You Tonight” by INXS, and there’s also many people who have sampled Ayu in their songs:

Have you recognized another sample being used in one of her songs?

Many of these aren't formal samples so much as similarities or maybe unintentional copies, but -

Free & Easy - opening uses "No Amen" from The Messenger soundtrack
Pride - Crucified by Army of Lovers
Feel the Love - Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl ft. Georgi Kay - In My Mind (Axwell Mix)

And of course all the Task- interludes use samples.

To my ears, Ayu's "Will" instrumental always sounded like DJ Shadow's "Mongrel" (2002), but with a different key...

I remember back in the day, there was this TV commercial airing non-stop on french TV with DJ Shadow's song, so when Will leaked in 2005 prior to the single release, I was like "Wait a minute..."
(I don't mind if some don't hear the similarities between these two tracks)

WHOA, I didn't know that about "No Amen"! :O
And I can hear the similarities about the DJ Shadow song and "Will", both songs are composed at 3/4.

This one may be obvious, but "too late (LaB LIFe remix)" samples "Blue Monday" by New Order: https://open.spotify.com/track/6Gg53...Rt-SUTFYfPIA9A

I was surprised to learn how much of (Miss)Understood was covered Sweetbox music (my fiance and I got into an argument because he insisted Bold and Delicious was a cover, but I didn't think Ayu had covered anything on (Miss)Understood).

That's not sampling, exactly. I think technically "Bold and Delicious," "Ladies Night," "In the Corner," "Pride," "Beautiful Day," and "Rainy Day" are covers? But the lyrics are Ayu's own, so that's not usually what you'd call a cover . . . is that sampling when it's the entire song?

It was actually a mutual decision to cover those songs! Citing Wikipedia's article on (miss)understood:

Quote:

In 2005, after hearing demo tracks from band Sweetbox's then-upcoming album Addicted, Hamasaki "fell in love" with the songs and consequently asked Sweetbox's composer GEO if she could use some of the songs for her album. GEO agreed and gave Hamasaki permission to use "Bold & Delicious", "Pride", "Ladies Night", "In the Corner", "Every Step", and "Beautiful Girl". Hamasaki then set to work rewriting the lyrics and rearranging parts of songs.

There's a reality show series called Total Divas and in one of the episodes the background song was the first seconds of LOVE 'n' HATE. I tried to find the post I made when I found out about it, but apparently it was deleted. -sigh-

did they really compose that part tho? It sounds more like something free to use to begin with and both composers of these songs stumbled across it.

It's definitely related... And I'm not surprised tasuku is involved in this track. As much as I'm always impressed by his arrangements which are always standing out in terms of creativity, I have to admit he really likes to recycle stuff from other artists, or he is using free samples a lot.

BTW this thread is really interesting : )
Didn't know ayu was sampled by other artists as well.

ATR made the sound sampling the song “I’m In Love With Today” by the punk rock band The Users (released in 1977). Alec Empire, the producer behind ATR, used samples from many bands for the album, and also anime series and movies, like 3x3 Eyes and Urotsukidoji: Legend Of The Overfiend.
