Recommend some artists please?

Could you please recommend some asian artists to me please? I haven't been able to hear much as I haven't really been able to download much. So far I like Ayu, Kuraki Mai. I'm not into RnB, boybands, or heavy rock. I don't mind the stuff Ayu's done, as it sounds good, but I'm not into anything heavier than that. If you could upload some samples for me to listen to and PM me the link I'd be grateful. Thanks :)

Corybobory 30th October 2004 03:32 PM

The Brilliant Green and Utada Hikaru all the way.

HanabiChick 30th October 2004 03:37 PM

Thanks, but the little I've heard of TBG I don't really like, it's too much like the indie stuff here. I don't like RnB, and every single Utada song I downloaded I didn't like them - they all sounded the same. So no, I don't like her stuff. I probably should have said no indie stuff in that list too.

TNeilson 30th October 2004 03:40 PM

i recommand ELVA all the way!!!
i've uploaded her latest album "the 5th avenue" to "Offtopic d/l"
go check it!

HanabiChick 30th October 2004 04:01 PM

Thanks - I like what I hear so far :yes I want to hear the first part of the album, but that part is gone - could you please reupload it for me and PM me the URL?

BoA..o.o??...some of her songs r kinda bad tho...

Misia's nice..

DAI (do as infinity)

Koda Kumi

Bonnie Pink..^^

drewbilation 30th October 2004 06:55 PM

I agree with Bonnie Pink. She's awesome! ^_^

Namie Amuro - the QUEEN of J-pop... her newer stuff is R&B, but her 90s stuff is mostly pop =)
Nana Katase - her music is mostly synthy-dance-pop, but it's catchy as all hell. ^_^
Aiko Kayo - she's adorable and her songs are WAY catchy.
Yui Ichikawa - 'Love Letter' is her best song (that I've heard)... it's angst-pop at its finest. =D
Rio Matsumoto - she's just started singing, but her first single is reallyreally good!
Asuka Hinoi - she's only 13, but both her music is REALLY good... especially 'Tatta Hitori No Kimi!'
Nami Tamaki - she's young too, and her singles have mostly been anime-themes, but I still like her a lot. Especially 'Distance,' 'Reason' and 'Highschool Queen.'

Chihiro Onitsuka! :yatta infection. definately listen to infection o_o

Rei.. 30th October 2004 07:46 PM

um.. Maybe try some..

Lee soo young
Faye wong
Jay Chou (he's pretty much known as a Rnb artist, but not all his songs are like that. He's got a unique style so maybe just check out his songs just in case ya like 'em :rolleyes like maybe 'Fine Day', 'Her eyelashes', 'You can hear it', or 'Qi Li Xiang'
Baby VOX
Namie Amuro
DAI
alot of people like ELT.. i'm not one of them, but they are popular
um.. Lol Jolin Tsai has some songs which aren't bad if you like pop.
um.. all I can think of at the minute.. might add some more later :thud

ImpactBreaker 30th October 2004 07:54 PM

Since you like ayumi I suggest you to try Do As Infinty and H/\L because their composers are the same for ayu's. Some of their stuff can be a bit simillar.

paper_doll 30th October 2004 07:54 PM

As a long shot, I highly reccomend Kagrra,. They're a visual-kei band, but their music isn't anything heavy.

Try ELT!!! you'll love them THEY ROCK!! :D:D

HanabiChick 31st October 2004 10:59 AM

Thanks for the suggestions... I won't try anyone that's R&B or dance, that kind of thing as they irritate me. Anyone know where I can hear mp3s of these artists, since I don't have any download programs? I want to listen properly to them before deciding to buy CDs. Or if anyone has AIM would you please send me some?

Rei.. 1st November 2004 08:40 PM

If you wanted to listen to some korean artists you could try solid07. Their music section is pretty extensive, it's all low quality wma's though.. but it'll be a good place to try differernt artist to see if ya like 'em at least.
Also if you check out their forums they're always posting albums/songs/PV's from lots of different asian artists etc..

hope this helps ^__^v

I've had a quick look, but it's hard to know what to download, as there's no information on what genre the artist/s are... it's a bit confusing.

Nu-NRG 3rd November 2004 05:50 AM

Sun Yanzi her genre ranges from slow ballad to technoey with latin/indian music influenced....i'll upload her new album if you like her stuff
David Tao his older stuff is ballad very nice to listen to..and his recent stuff is more toward rock/r&b i think..
Amei her older stuff is also soft ballads and newer stuff is more of rockish types
Leehom hmm well he have all kinds of music...pop..r&b...rock
they're all taiwanese btw
i've upload some of them in the OT Downloads..
maybe youll like them?

UHPlus 3rd November 2004 06:00 AM

Thanks for the info, I'll check them out.

UHPlus, thanks, but I had already said I didn't like Utada and I hate R&B, so I probably won't like namie amuro... they're probably good singers, but I just don't like their genre of music.

gakkun 4th November 2004 05:26 AM

^I think you downloaded the wrong Utada songs, not all her songs are r'n'b and alot of them are very 'pop'. Try Traveling, Deep River, Final Distance and Hikari. :yes

maybe you want to try Mika Nakashima or Kiroro? The first one you should've heard plenty about, she's mainly jazz/acoustic-sounding so they are good to relax to. The second one's less famous here but they were famous in Japan. It's a duo of two girls, one vocals and the other one plays the piano. I'll upload a song or two of theirs soon if you want me to.

other recommendations:
Kou Shibasaki - great voice, she's a famous actress and her songs are very popular in Japan.
ZONE - girl band, a few songs are great.
Ken Hirai - he's supposed to be R'n'B but don't let that turn you off cuz his ballads are great. He also sings in flawless English.
You Hitoto - can't really describe her style...but personally I think she's probably as unique as Shiina Ringo.

Echiko 4th November 2004 07:45 AM

Not much people hear of her...but if you like peaceful songs and such...I like KOKIA and Changin' My Life (<- group)/Myco (<- solo singer)
