Question on fake Ayu DVDs

OK I really want to buy this Complete Clip Box set I found on ebay, but when it listed the region it said "ALL" Which got me thinking..is it legit? It said it's "sealed it it's original packeging" & it's really cheap. I also saw a A Museum disk from a diffrent seller that said "ALL" should I buy any of these?

nmskalmn 23rd December 2004 04:09 PM

Official avex releases would be region coded. These sound like fakes.

Piccolo 23rd December 2004 04:21 PM

I don't think avex releases official region 0 coded DVDs. You are looking at homemade copies for sure.

Blasterion 23rd December 2004 04:30 PM

can also be those illegal dvd's made by other companies which look the same and those are also "all region" stuff

ElegantAyu 23rd December 2004 04:47 PM

They're probably VCDs/SVCDs.

Antipika 23rd December 2004 05:26 PM

ALL DVD on ebay with 0 Region Code are simply FAKE ! Just report the item to ebay, using Help > Contact Ebay.

I have bought one time a bootleg by mistake, i immediatly contact the seller, ebay and paypal. The seller refund me :)

Qt Mashi 23rd December 2004 05:28 PM

wow ebay is scary i wanna shop there but my friend told me to never pay by credit card....scary

Antipika 23rd December 2004 05:37 PM

Your friend is totaly wrong the safest and fastest way to pay on ebay is trought credit card via Paypal :)

If there is any problem with the seller, and if those seller dont want a negative feedback, he'll refund you :)

I have recently been getting into ebay and looking for things and spotted these too. I concluded that the region free disks were fake as official products hardly ever are and they were normally priced too cheaply, a sign that they obviously want to tempt you in.

Attached is part of my collection with the vcd pictured.
Mine also has DVD in the corner. It came in the actual DVD's box. but it was definately VCD. I now have a real copy though. :)

If they are REALLY cheap i would be weary. If you want the real thing, be careful. If you live in LA you should have a Chinatown near you somewhere right? You can get the real stuff there cheap. I bought Memorial Address at Kinokuniya for $25 then went to a chinese shop and bought the CD+DVD (real thing) for $13. Needless to say I was testy. But that's okay...... Same as buying A Ballads, then getting it from a friend. >< oh well. two copies in case of an accident

Where do you buy your CD's? What is the shop called? I live close to Little Tokyo & went to a Japanese cd shop & the lady says she doesn't buy Ayu CDs? So I should try China Town?

ElegantAyu 24th December 2004 03:02 AM

Chinatowns always have Ayu. You just have to watch for bootleg and cheesey fake stuff. But a lot of times you can just tell.
I went to NY and looked at there Chinatown and in a separate Chinese Neighborhood and hit the jackpot. :)

most music shops will have their CDs divided by countries, gender, and genre
One shop in NY had Ayu on a shelf titled Japan:Female Artists

If nothing else, have her name in Kanji & Hiragana written down and give it to the vendor. I was lucky and had my Chinese friend with me, so he did the talking. But search on your own. Try all the stores that sell music & Anime. Going to New York was like visiting a mini-Japan. The chinese know that there is a good market in anime and japanese music, so they invest.

Most of the bootlegs are obvious. They'll have random Ayu pictures as CD covers or will have the wrong title. hehehe some of them are just hilarious. So you can usually tell what's real and what's not. As long as you are knowledgeable.

extepan 24th December 2004 04:36 AM

the dvd is fake, it is a copy from china.

iloveayu04 24th December 2004 03:42 PM

All official Avex releases are region encoded. My OS versions of Ayu are Region 3, and my JPN versions are Region 2. Cheap + No Region = Fake, even if well done.

Antipika 24th December 2004 04:11 PM

I receive two bootleg DVD yesterday (Arena Tour 2003-2004 and BoA Live 2004), i immediatly contact the seller, and said that i dont want his ******** bootleg...

He simply refund me and i'll resend the bootleg dvd to him...

As you can see :

http://www3.infos-du-net.com/paypal.jpg

(It's in French, Remboursement = Refund)

Sometimes it's impossible to know if the DVD that your are bidding on it (on ebay) are bootleg or not, cause seller took the cover from a website like cdjapan or from an another bid of an official dvd :x So you see that you got a bootleg only when the item arrive.

Many bootleg seller on ebay are good seller too, if you don't want a bootleg they will refund you, many people buy and like bootleg cause they simply don't have enough money to bought original CD/DVD...

I got the ARENA TOUR 2002 DVD and STADIUM TOUR 2002 DVD for 20$ each and they are region free (ALL). But i doubt it's fake, the cover looks the same, it includes the DVD booklet too.

Is the DVD Double layered ? Most of bootleg are not, cause a double layer writable dvd is expensive...

Just put in on your computer and look the video and audio bitrate. The bootleg i had was in crappy 4Mbps MPEG-2 VBR and audio was in ~500 Kbps VBR too...
