A new Utada Interview in yet another gay magazine :)

You can read the transcript of the interview here. http://www.hikaru-online.net/forums/...8&page=1&pp=10

Her persona as Utada is so different from Utada Hikaru, It's all good and well though. :)

Thanks for the link, she really seems to have many sides to her. I'm not so sure I like the side she "revealed" in this magazine article. I always thought of her as a goody-goody but not anymore =x Nice use of explicatives (four in a row??). I can't believe she made out with a girl in a club!!!! @.@

ohsixthirty 10th January 2005 07:23 PM

OMG, I just fell in love w/ her I think! LOL! She seems really cool and fun, you know? She seems like someone you could just sit down with and feel like you'd known them forever. I'm glad to see she's still getting some attention too, I was afraid for a while she was just going to fade away totally. Hopefully the Exodus '04 single will do well.

What was the other gay magazine she was in? I knew the gay community was kind of embracing her because several of my friends know about her and they spin her at the clubs sometimes. :)

sugoiguywithhair 10th January 2005 08:01 PM

The other magazine she was in is called NEXT.

I honestly thought it sounded so unnatural. As if she was seeking attention in the interview. It would have sounded more natural if she had said that in a non-specific non-gay magazine....but not like that. I think she's trying too hard to look badass...if it had been someone like Shiina Ringo it would have sounded very natural no matter which magazine interview she was in, but it still doesn't seem to work with hikki.

I couldn't understand when she said "Some of my husband's friends are gay and I mean really gay" Can a gay really not be gay heh? For some reason I think she wanted to mean something much more than that.

Thanks for the article btw.

Most of the interviews of her I've read and even TV interviews I've seen of her in the US make her seem very unnatural. She's especially awkward in front of the camera and can't answer questions very well. About the quote about her husband's friends being "really" gay, I think she was referring to their disposition. Like.. in the US it's common for people to consider gay people on a scale of how "gay" they really are. A man considered "very" gay in the US would probably be a man who has a strong lisp, plucks eyebrows, maybe wears makeup or crossdresses, is really into fashion, uses words like "fabulous" and "honey" and has a very flamboyant personality. I deeply apologize if my description offends anyone, but it's true that such people in the US would be considered "really" gay. I wasn't pleased when Hikaru said that sentence and I'm sure she must have offended some of the readers of the magazine.

sugoiguywithhair 11th January 2005 01:16 AM

Um, I don't think some of you guys understand. That magazine's like all gay pride and what not. They're RPOUD of things like that. What she said is like an inside joke. Also, I think it would have sounded like she was yearning for attention if she mentioned that in a men's magazine. Cause I mean, straight men are the one's that will go gaga over that. The fact that she casually mentioned it in a gay men's mag shows that it doesn't have other intentions with it.

paper_doll 11th January 2005 01:27 AM

Quite the article ^^ Thanks for the link.

ImpactBreaker 11th January 2005 01:37 AM

Are gays proud of stereotypes? Because I think utada said something really stereotyped. I actually think Utada could be a little more careful before doing comments like that specially for a written interview. Even if it is an inside joke it could be misunderstood ahahha :laugh

Yep because a men's magazine is a specific magazine for the male public. It would sound unnatural too. I was actually mentioning it would sound more natural if she did such an interview for a more global (non-specific public) magazine which wasn't what happened. Her mentioning a possible "gay" episode of her life would definitly attract the readers of a gay magazine much more, not because they think it's hot obviously but because it gives a feeling that Utada is a lot closer to that public than they might think. :yes It actually sounded that she wanted to try to get closer to them and "made up" an history like that. (I'm not saying she's lying, I think she is actually saying the truth but it sounds so unnatural that I end up having such questions)

...i dont like the article......i feel utada's trying too hard to be badass, like someone else said..:-/. And that "really gay" comment thing....eer..o_o?

thejadedangel 11th January 2005 03:07 AM

Bleh. I'm not liking the new "ooo, I'm a bad-arse" Utada. It seems like it's this personality that's she's trying to put out for her US audience and it doesn't quite click.
I've never seen her speaking in a Brooklyn accent either! What is she talking about that she has a Brooklyn accent? It seems like just plain w/o accents to me.
>.> I can't believe she made out w/a girl. Not that I'm against gays or anything, but never would've thought she would do that kinda stuff.

Echiko 11th January 2005 03:12 AM

WOOOW. OKay. First discovery..she's marries. Second Discovery...she was that cheerful and giggly. XD Third discovery..she made out with a girl. xDD;;

Mirai Noah 11th January 2005 04:13 AM
