What's your opinion when ayu uses English Lyrics?

Hummmm! I think ayu is using English in her lyrics again? I don't mind it in humming 4/7! But in Rainbow they sounded kind of weird! What do you guys think?

i like when she uses english cuz it could be used to emphasize even more meaning to her words... and if u dont speak japanese u can kinda tell wht the song is about... but wht evr suits ayu is fine with me

i admit that hearing the word "nun" in [Real me] made me cringe, it just sounds really clumsy at trying to rhyme with fun...
the introduction to [everywhere nowhere] is cool, althou some of my friends cant understand what shes saying >_<
but like, i doubt she writes the english lyrics... like in [forgiveness]... "every moral things, every carnal sins" or whatever it is, i dont think her english is at a level where her vocabulary includes words like `moral` etc... and i aint criticising her, cos she dropped out of high school right, so she didnt learn english or whatever, no big deal thou... hardly anyone in japan can speak it anyway haha.
she should take elocution lessons if she wants to use english in her songs i think.. katakana english dont sound so hot :(

PickleCookies 21st March 2005 09:56 PM

I wish she didn't use Engrish.

thats like the major advantage hickey has over ayu, the fact shes bilingual... sometimes ayus english is pretty good, but like [forgiveness] was terrible.. i hope [STEP you] is just a blip, and the rest of her releases will be decent english.. (i actually dont mind [STEP you] as a title, its just bizarre.. but i hate [my name`s WOMEN] i get the meaning she wants to convey and everything, but damn it sounds lame man...)

I don't mind it. It's okay. As long as it fits the song, it's okay.

FuNsTyLe 21st March 2005 10:34 PM

What i like about her english, is that she doesnt just sing "I love you, do you love me... My love for you bla bla bla" she sings deeper lyrics, for instance, look at forgiveness:)

true true!

i actually prefer all Jpop artists not to use english, it's like they are trying to hit the US market

Exile 21st March 2005 11:38 PM

Most of her engrish song titles and lyrics suck arse. Period.

bringer_of_the_sun 21st March 2005 11:53 PM

Here's my two cents...

I don't mind when artists use English, but it really annoys me when it doesn't make sense! I'm a grammar freak and I find that most asian artists can't use the language correctly. Pronounciation is a big factor too. Namie has pretty good pronounciation, but the grammar is horrible. I like Hikki's english, but then, she's bilingual. BoA really needs to stop using english in her songs. Beat of Angel makes absolutely no sense, and neither does ID Peace B. Maybe a word or two is fine, but whole sentences sound really really fobby in most songs. Another thing that's annoying is when artists sing an english version of a jpop song. Again, Hikki isn't that bad. I actually like the english versions of Hikari and First Love, but the english versions of BoA's amazing kiss, valenti, and every heart are cringe-worthy.

Doesn't really spring to my mind as much. As long as it goes well with the song that's fine. I wouldn't prefer listening to Ayu singing a full english song either however.

evechoco 22nd March 2005 12:48 AM

i don't mind, i think its quite ok

AyuDan 22nd March 2005 06:51 AM

its fine with me, its really exicting to see her try to sing the engligh lyrics in performances , cause its just looks soo, iono, moviing? lol iono but yes she should try to do some all English Traslated songs like BoA it was pretty nice of her to do so, but not saying it wa sall that great, but it brought her to a higher aspect of her career, ayu should try things like that out, you never know, it might get her somewhere higher in the music industry than she already is.

Cyria 22nd March 2005 07:08 AM

I prefer it when she doesn't use English. I tend to like songs better when they're in just one language.

lovia 22nd March 2005 07:14 AM

i do like ayu's english lyrics at least it makes some sense when im listening to her songs.. because i dun really understand pretty pony~pretty pony~pretty pony~ and always need to refer to translated lyrics.. which is tiring.. :D hahah but i like her songs' english titles.. IMO.. it doesnt really sound that lame... but im kind of scare to listen when i listen to RAINBOW and forgiveness coz it sounds a bit funny with sharp pitch and sometimes the way she sings it.. er.. the vibrato thingy.. the sound... but everywherenowhere and heartplace was nice and cool! ^^ they make so much sense.. :)

devilayu 22nd March 2005 07:20 AM

Before the "Rainbow" album, Ayumi had used one or two words in English randomly in her lyrics, but then when that album rolled around it almost seemed like she jumped on the bandwagon with full sentences in Engrish. I prefer to listen to the songs without Engrish.

Selekta 22nd March 2005 07:26 AM

a women gives her lungs away :roflmao

yeah i'd prefer it if she didn't use engrish, but then again, if it makes her more money and popular because it's the "thing" to do, go for it...they are her songs, not mine...

maybe she should be different and use german or french in her lyrics :P

appears 22nd March 2005 09:44 AM

^ or why not sing in old gaelic like olivia? :P

extepan 22nd March 2005 02:18 PM

it is ok, i dont mind it. she is trying to express herself in various ways, and i respect that.

jasonrey 22nd March 2005 03:17 PM

she uses english in deeper meaning and i like it... like forgiveness "every immoral deeds, every cardinal sins..." and RAINBOW "no rain, cant get the rainbow..." i think it is a good quotes
