ayumi's hearing problem?

I read that she has a serious hearing problem on her left ear, and it happened at the Dome Tour 2004. I heard she is almost completely deaf on the left side, so you should think she stopps singing for a while. Yet, the Album "My story" was released in December 2004, so this means she didn't take any time off?

....is she really deaf on the left side?? :eyebrow :o

It has been reported she does have some problem, and this info has been twisted and used to start rumors of her quiting. But to what degree is the problem no one knows.

Dome Tour was in 2001. She finished the tour, and I don't know for sure, but she probably did take some time to rest.

sitara 7th June 2005 04:09 PM

yeah, it wasn't dome tour, it was the other one 2004. my mistake.

JinHamasaki 7th June 2005 06:42 PM

No, it was DOME TOUR 2001. She did not talk about her hearing problem in 2004, except saying "I still cannot pick up the phone by my left ear"

It's not something that can be fixed by surgery. Many artists have it due to the high-decibal environment they are in without protection.

They was talking about it in one 2004 interview. They told her she can cancel that tour but she said no. And after few moments, she fell into some hole 2 meters deep. They took her into hospital 2 hours before start of concert. But she has returned a while before starting. She said she heard almost nothing, its was really hard for her. But she did it!

alright, i got the info from this site:
http://homepage2.nifty.com/morimasa/add8.html

if you scroll down it claimed to be 2004.
It's a bad thing on her part if she didn't take any rest for even a while....

ears = precious.

the year 2004 was when that person wrote the article or soemthing...but i am sure that her ear problem was during Dome Tour in 2001...but she only told us about in the year 2004

i think she did take a rest because u can see here in 2001 that she didnt do many concerts but she made up for it in 2002

She talked about her hearing problem in a special interview in 2004... I must say, she has some great persistence and loyalty to her fans. I think it's admirable that she went through with Dome Tour at the time :)

SunshineSlayer 10th June 2005 10:06 PM

Yes, it was definitely in Dome Tour 2001. She only started talking about it in 2004. Prior to that, fans had no knowledge of it.

It actually started in her second tour in 2000 when the live band was added to her show. (bands are always more loud than recorded music, which is what she was using before.) It was durring the Dome Tour in 2001 though that it started to become unbarable. She was almost completely deaf in her left ear. I'm sure she still has problems with it today, because usually once hearing damage is done, it is permanent. The only thing she has said about the extent of the damage is that she can't talk on the phone using her left ear.

Did that cause her to wear those ear plugs during concerts?

Yes it did, but not to plug the sound. When the ringing would get louder, Ayu was forced to increase the volume of the other ear so she could hear the music. :gnash

maybe it's because she fell off the stage in the dome tour 2001? she has recovered now doesn't she? but now avex is give her a target, 1 release in each season, so in a year she will only release 4 times, just count it started from 2001. that's why she release MAXI singles.. that's what I heard from my friend.

It was in 04.04.12 NTV Special Interview. She was pushing her finger into her left ear, but since the interview was in Japanese I couldn't understand every word of it. And also they were showing a scene when Ayu was taken to hospital (before Dome Tour 2001 or 2004 I think) and she returned in a wheel chair and still perfomed. I didn't understand why she was taken to hospital, though :eyebrow

Because she fell through a hole in the stage. (the big dome that opens up in the begining has a hole under it.) She probabally lost her balance due to the problem with her ears.

You can find that NTV interview subtitled now.
