Ken is definetly the king of ballads, he is kind of the king of J-pop itself. At least if bands don't cout as "king" material.

Congratulations Ayu! No surprise, she's made so many extremely beautiful and emotional ballads, both musically and lyrically. She has made so many types of ballads also, from the rock-like memorial address to the one and only dance ballad "M".

Congrats Ayu! I'm really happy for her. Yay also for ELT, Hikki, aiko, Mika and of course, Ai. I expected B'z to be higher, their ballads really rock. Ken Hirai and CHEMISTRY really deserve their ranking. They sing some of the most touching and emotional ballads ever.

Good news. I think Mr. Children deserves to be #1 on the guys side though, Hirai and that one insanely overrated song he released last year. :rolleyes

Congrats to Ayu! I am also not a huge ballad fan in general, but I have to say that I love about 75% of Ayu's ballads. It's usually the combination of power, lyrics, and composition/instrumentation.

Yay Ayu deserves it :D CHEMISTRY should have been number one, I like Hirai Ken but I think CHEMISTRY is much more deserving...

ELT has had some PHENOMENAL ballads, but not in a while - so i can see the #7 ranking

But for the males i would have put ORANGE RANGE at the top - they only really have that one ballad a year - but hana and kizuna were amazing songs ...
