(miss)understood is the best selling album in Taiwan

No sure why, but the Sponichi is reporting that "(miss)understood" is the best selling album in Taiwan. Apparently Ayu was quoted as wanting to go to Taiwan. :shrug

My translation (fixes appreciated, the sentences are long, so my sentences are choppy at best):

Hamasaki Ayumi places at the top on Taiwanese Charts

Hamasaki Ayumi's (27) new album "(miss) understood" didn't just place first in Japan, it also did so in the Taiwanese charts.

According to Avex, on the charts of the 2 major record stores, TCR and ROSE RECORDS, her record placed first amongst domestic Taiwanese acts. In 2002 (prior data is unavailable) Utada Hikaru (23) and w-inds had reached #1, Hamasaki's "My Story" did the same in 2004.

In 2002, Hamasaki promoted her photo book "uraayu" in other Asian countries. At the airport, she was greeted by about 500 ardent female fans. Her popularity is high and magazines with her on the cover continue to sell well.

About her #1 position in both Japan and Taiwan, Hamasaki said, "I'm surprised. In the future, I will strive to extend my presence to Asia. I would like to go to Taiwan again soon."

In case you don't remember, Ayumi has been to Taiwan before when she was promoting "uraayu" (as hinted in the article)

YYAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY...she should be proud that she has more loyal non-japanese fans

shinde 21st January 2006 06:49 AM

ooh that's good for Ayu! Surprised that she is so popular in Taiwan though, I thought her popularity kinda died down in Asia (maybe I got confused by the tabloids) but anyways, that's great! XD
