Was Day After Tommorow not popular?
hmmm....so yea, I tried looking them up on lots of different things, Jpop suki, ebay, limewire, yesasia (i found them eventually..but they're not even on the ARTIST lists...) and I really didn't find much...or even hardly anything at all
but yea, Were they not popular? I liked their music =\ |
Me too! I really enjoyed their music.
|
They weren't really popular but not totally unknown. They had only one big hit as far as I can remember, and that was "faraway" their first single. They weren't as big as ELT or even DAI.
|
i thought you meant the movie with jake gyllenhal, lmao! but yeah, DAT wasn't super popular, but i used to see them mentioned often enough. i don't think they've been releasing a lot lately have they? maybe they're just being forgotten.
|
^ Of course they don't release a lot lately... they disbanded ^^;;
|
I guess they just lost their popularity. they did manage to make several albums & mini-albums tho , their discography isn't that small so I guess they used to be kinda popular.
|
I only know the song "Faraway" from them...
great song :) |

well, i never kept track of them a lot...i guess that explains why i haven't heard from them lately, lol. |
Never was a fan, but their song "more than a million miles" (incidentally, it IS the theme song of the MOVIE "Day After Tomorrow", lol) is one of my all time favs. :)

That's a good question o_O I'm sure they got some recognition for their Starry Heavens song, since it was the theme song of a video game called Tales of Symphonia, one of the popular Tales series (love that game, Sheena's all over my siggy! XD) All TOS fans know of it, but as to how popular it was exactly can't say for sure...
|
Well, here's some info:
Their best-selling single was "moon gate", it debuted #2 at the Oricon charts and stayed for 20 weeks at the chart. Their best-selling album was actually the mini-album "day after tomorrow II", their highest chart position was #2 and stayed at the charts for 13 weeks. I think they were really popular, I don't know sales numbers but I assume they did pretty well ._. |
i remember reading somewhere that they were criticised for sounding like the early ELT
|
I found thme interesting....... but they were like a favorite outfit that you love so much until the style just was out and you moved on to the next new thing.
|
I wouldn't really call them unpopular. They had a fair amount of fans, myself included.
Cleftjuston: I think the criticism was because of Mitsuru Igarashi, their sound producer. Fans feared Igarashi might've started the group to take ELT's place, which was probably just another thing started by the media. |
I'm curious to know why Igarashi left ELT and started DAT, does anyone have any info?
|
Day After Tomorrow was pretty big when they were together I think. I heard at one point DAT was a lot more well-known than Koda Kumi was...hmm.
Tidbit: They were nominated for Best New Artist when they first debuted, but they were beat by Nakashima Mika. ^^; |
They're popular enough, they can get into the top 10 with ease regularly.

In the 4 main Avex female fronted groups, they were 3rd sales wise. (ELT, DAI, DAT, globe) At the end of their career they sold 43k of their single "Kimi to aeta kiseki" and 30k of "Yuri no hana". I can't find sales numbers other than these. :( |
