Help me out (Jrock)

OK, so I've been listening to a lot of Dir en grey lately, and I really would like to know of some other great Jrock bands to check out that are kind of similar to Dir en grey. I really like heavy stuff, so that's always a plus. I don't mind screaming vocals, either (my favorite genre is metal). Keep the recommendation coming!

Lumix 14th April 2006 12:58 AM

miyavi is the best metal singer! try his earlier songs.. there is a lot of screaming and some are super hardcore :D

pretty good are songs: joushou gaidou, shindemo boogie woogie, pop is dead, tarararitararara, girls be ambitious

hardcore: hatachi kinenbi, gariben rock, kusare gedou he

I also like Nightmare, especially song raven loud spee(e)aker

YAY DIR EN GREY FAN <3

Not much heavy/metal stuff I know about ( >__<)*

Hm.. I'd say you try Antique Cafe. I don't see it around that much, but if you would like I could post some of their songs. They aren't as heavy as Dir en Grey, but maybe you would like them!
You know how Kyo sometimes "growls" in his songs? Miku (Vocalist) sometimes does that.

X Japan is a must if you like Jrock.

Janne da Arc too.

I say you try looking for Visual Kei bands maybe. I don't know much about Visual since I'm not much of a fan = =;

Also, try looking if Dir en Grey went on tour with any other bands, they might bring an intrest to you.

I found some really good Japanese metal bands using metal-archives.com, but a lot of them are just typical death metal, etc., and I'm not really in the mood for that. Which X-Japan album would you say is the best?

*edit*

Speaking of Dir en grey, what's going on with them lately? I couple months ago I heard something about Firewall USA signing them, but I haven't heard anything since. What's going on?

ayu3657 14th April 2006 02:39 AM

I downloaded Nightmare's Libido album, and I really like it. I'm in the process of downloading Miyavi's Gagaku album. I've listened to four songs so far, and I really like that, too. Thanks a lot!

Ah. Back on the topic of Dir en grey. I just came across this: http://www.warconent.com/artist.php?id=12. It seems that Withering to death will come out officially in America on May 16th. Awesome.

They were signed to Warcon Records, a US label which'll be releasing Wtd. They played 3 shows in the States this March- Austin, NYC and LA (and they played a new song).

For recommendations I like Gazette a lot, mostly their older stuff but overall they're still one of my favourite bands. Plastic Tree are really good. But, I've been like, obsessing over MUCC lately. I like The Piass and Aliene Ma'riage too. Neither are my favourite bands but are still good. I've recently gotten into Sadie, who are a pretty new band, I think. Kagrra and SID are really good, but not heavy... Uh *spaces out* I'll come back later.

Hmm...these aren't exactly recommendations from me since I only have one or two songs of these Jrockers...but here: Alice Nine, Kaggra, Pierrot, Due Le Quartz (band that Miyavi was part of)....that's all I can think of right now. x_x;

I have no idea which album is the best x_x Maybe you should try one of their early stuff or one of the "Best" albums.

Warcon is putting the date for the release to May 16th? I thought it was March.. No wonder I couldnt find it :dead2

ayu3657 14th April 2006 04:46 PM

Thanks for the recommendations, guys. I'll check all these out. I really like Miyavi, though. I downloaded Gagaku, and I can't stop listening to it. For some reason, I always thought he played happier music. :p

Lumix 14th April 2006 04:52 PM

I'm soo happy you like miyavi-kun! :D He's so enjoyable indeed :)

Well, gagaku is his debut. Different than his nowadays singles. It's a lot more rockish. And I love it.

I love this picture of Miyavi. Heh.

Me too :) its perfect! His tongue is love.

Heavy stuff, mmm. That leaves Laruku out because their stuff have always been a bit mellower compared to the other J-rock bands.

Early Luna Sea would be good. And yes, definitely X Japan. Art of Life is a must-listen, it's their definitive work I feel. Finally, you could try most of the visual bands these days, the entire visual/indies scene has gone heavier compared to the early years.

Oh, I still like Laruku, but right now I'm just looking for heavier stuff.

X Japan - Blue Blood, I think that's their best album by far. every song on that album is fantastic.. even the intro =P

anyway, I've recently gotten into Glay... tho I've been listening to their indie album "Hai to Daiyamondo" a lot more then their latest stuff. They're still a great band <3

Ryoko 16th April 2006 02:52 AM

I think Blue Blood would be X Japan's best album. But I would recommend getting their other albums as well.

Miyabi-Sama 24th April 2006 10:23 PM

I'd go with MUCC or the trax they're pretty good, of coarse you checked out miyavi.

Edit: you could check out buck tick not exactly heavy metal but still kinda of the same effect
