The Super Monkeys

anybody ever hear of these guys? All I know is that they used to have Namie amuro in them...

Halla 10th May 2006 07:16 PM

um , yeah. they're also known as MAX and they have a big discography & actually released a new album this year called 'Jewel of Jewels'.

They used to be big , huge sold-out tours & multi-million sales but they sorta lost their popularity. but they're still around :)

I'm a fan of them :D

^MAX and the Super Monkeys are the same?! I never knew that.

Calico 11th May 2006 04:41 AM

Yup! After Namie went solo, her backups came together and became MAX.
However, a few years ago their main singer quit because of pregnancy, and they hired a new girl. I like both sets =)

Keishi 11th May 2006 12:46 PM

was Namie the lead singer?

thinkingoutloud89 11th May 2006 01:08 PM

Yes. They actually went through a few names. I think they started out "The Supermonkeys". Then they were "Namie Amuro AND the Supermonkeys". Finally I think they became "Namie Amuro WITH the Supermonkeys". So they kept getting further and further out of the spotlight.

The only reason I know this stuff is because I bought their ORIGINAL TRACKS VOL. 1 in Japan. :laugh

I can re-upload this if you want :)

I think Namie left Super Monkeys in good terms , I remember reading from some interview of Namie's that she still meets & goes out with the MAX girls every now & then.

slashess 12th May 2006 06:44 PM

that would be cool! :) I have some of their songs but i haven't really seen what they looked like X333

I have Supermonkey's "Mr. USA" PV if anyone wants that, the only problem is, the quality isn't so great, but it's not eye-blinding bad either, and the music's off-syncn w/ the vid

Halla 12th May 2006 11:22 PM

I re-uploaded the 'Be With You' PV on rapidshare & sendspace here :)

Calico 13th May 2006 04:50 AM

Yes, I also read that Namie and the girls are still good friends. I think that their careers just started going in different directions so they parted ways.

I'd love to hear a collaboration someday, though. Namie Amuro feat. MAX. Or maybe MAX feat. Namie Amuro to give the group a bit of a sales boost. ^^;

stardusties 13th May 2006 06:55 AM

^ that would be great x33

Thanks Halla

I believe that MAX and The Super Monkeys aren't the same group. Although, the girls from MAX used to be in The Super Monkeys, but it isn't the same band. Namie Amuro was sort of the lead singer. And then, The Super Monkeys became Namie Amuro and The Super Monkeys as previously said.

Anyway, I'm downloading "ORIGINAL TRACKS VOL.1" tomorrow!

Also, I didn't know MAX has such success!

hopeorpain 16th May 2006 01:48 AM

super monkeys music sounds like very dancable girly pop to me ^^

Also, weren't there some member changes?

Halla 16th May 2006 08:30 PM

I think you can say 'Super Monkeys are MAX' , because MAX's original line-up is the same as the last (and the most well-known) line-up of Super Monkeys ( when they were 'Namie Amuro with Super Monkeys' ). the original Super Monkey line-up had Nana & Mina & Namie + 2 girls , who were swapped a couple of times until current MAX-members Reina & Lina took their place.

I think when MAX was formed at first they still performed with Namie as 'Namie Amuro with MAX' until they hit it big.

MAX has had a one member change. Mina retired to have a baby & settle down in '02 and a new-comer Aki joined MAX.

I have some sales figures. they're from the late 90's when the overall CD sales were really strong:

MAX's debut album "MAXIMUM" sold atleast 1.5 million copies , and their singles off their 1st & 2nd albums sold anywhere from around 200.000 to 500.000 copies. their 2nd album "MAXIMUM II" supposedly sold 1 million copies the day it was released.
