The Remix albums

Hey what happened to the remix albums, did they just suddenly stop? Because I haven't seen one since My Story Classical.

Maybe avex thinks that the sales will be bad and they won't get many profit from remix album.
Her last remix album that sold more than 100k was ayu trance 2 in september 2002.After that, the remix album never hit 100k
Ayumix5/ayuromix3/ayu trance 3 and MY STORY classical sales were not good .

MY STORY Classical never even sold out it's initial press. avex is still releasing a lot of trance/eurobeat albums but they're not as often tied to only one artist. The selling power Ayus name had "back then" was enough to release trance/eurobeat CDs featuring only her, I don't think she still has that power today.

Right now avex seem to be satisfied with releasing remixes only on her singles instead.

This has been discussed before but I don't think it has got its own thread.

All of those ayumixes, cybertrances, and eurobeats sold fairly poorly.

With the exception of maybe the first Eurobeat and AyumixII, those were some bad investments.

In another discussion I thought we found that the sales issue isen't valid, because other artists are still releasing them, like ami suzuki. And remix albums aren't supposed to sell that much. I think most of those albums sold as much as expected, except for the ayu-mixes released after RAINBOW. Remember ayumi hamasaki and MISIA are the only ones that ever had remix albums in number one. MY STORY Classical diden't do all that bad in the charts, it was an improvement from the last package of ayu-mixes. So really I think it's because it's out of fashion, more or less. They could still make a decent profit. PErhaps ayumi doesen't want them except for special occasions...

I think it's a shame there aren't any acoustic albums anymore. I love acoustic songs so much, those remix albums were the greatest ever! Hopefully there will be some acoustic mixes on upcoming singles.

yeah I want some more acoustic, (there've been less and less with her latest singles) Its a shame about the remix/acoustic albums though, I loved those.:(

Keishi 14th July 2006 03:57 PM

I've never liked any of those. Good remix usually is included in the single, while the mediocre is in the remix album.

rizilmine 14th July 2006 04:13 PM

^ Really? I think the opposite. For instance, I thought the fairyland brightfield remix was horrible. BLUE BIRD harderground remix was bad too.

I love her remix albums. =/ They are what got me interested in Ayumi in the first place.

Keishi 14th July 2006 04:29 PM

Well, tastes matter, rizilmine.

Remix Music Industry in Japan is not quite big, I guess. So the public are not really used with this kind of remix. Correct me if I'm wrong, coz if they are, perhaps these remix album will sell better.

rizilmine 14th July 2006 05:01 PM

that's why I said "I think"...

Eh, I can't find the source right now, perhaps wikipedia, but I think japan is supposed to be the biggest market for classical music in the entire world.

Keishi 15th July 2006 06:39 PM

Classical is not remix.

It is interms of a type of remix. You can get tribal, trance, dance remixes & classical. I can imagine some classical fans would enjoy My Story Classical like how some Trance fans enjoy Ayu's trance remix CDs though hate/dislike Ayu's normal music.
I don't think Avex expected the remix CDs to sell that great, they're really just fanservice things for fans and collectors. I hope Avex treat us to one soon.

immel 16th July 2006 12:00 AM

MY STORY Classical is seen as a remix album and not a studio album.

xiaou-xijiang 16th July 2006 12:07 AM

^I agree with that. But did she re-record the vocals for the songs to fit with the classical mix like she did with Dearest?

immel 16th July 2006 12:22 AM

^That's very possible.

I meant it's officially seen as a remix album, no matter what we want to see it as :P.

xiaou-xijiang 16th July 2006 12:26 AM

Yeah, I figured that last part. (I always called it remix cause it wasn't a studio album and it wasn't instrumental/karaoke)
