Music from your country!

We had this kind of thread a while ago, but I couldn't find it anymore so I decided to make a new one! ( I guess this is the right place? If not, please move it. ) The idea is to post recommendations or even Youtube links or something of bands/artists from your own country! :)

So, I'm from Finland and I will now introduce you to my new fandom, a band called Sunrise avenue!

Youtube-links:
2nd single - Romeo (don't mind about that stupid text -__- )
3rd single - Fairytale gone bad

I can't upload anything because I think it's pretty licensed in the US... but you all know ABBA I suspect ;).

CREA.tive 4th September 2006 07:42 PM

I'm from Quebec (Canada). I think that everyone listened at least once to Celine Dion though;)

immel 4th September 2006 07:47 PM

From Sweden there's also the lesser known artists/bands...

For pop/rock we have Gyllene Tider (Golden Times) and Carola who are, or have been, pretty popular. For Hip Hop we have Kent, Fronda and tons more... Swedish hip hop is funny, and it can be really good even though I don't enjoy it much.

I belive a lot of people know about Roxette, some of the band members in Roxette is the same as in Gyllene Tider.

^I've listened Petter sometimes, I like swedish as a language used in rap/hip-hop :yes

And from my country there are few popular bands who have had success in US/Europe

Him, you should know it lol and The Rasmus in Germany at least :b

I think there are couple more but I dont listen to finnish music so I cant remember :x

immel 4th September 2006 07:56 PM

Yes, it actually sounds really good, and I forgot about Petter, I knew there was one of the bigger artists I had forgotten the name of :).

Some of my favourite bands happen to be finnish, Sonata Arctica, Nightwish... though they sing in English.

Aren't one or two members of Kent Sweden Finns or something like that? Isn't that the name of a rockish band that sings in Swedish?

Music from my country, well, I love Nightwish and I'm glad they released five wonderful albums before Tarja left and the tabloid !drama! started. Maybe YouTube has their great cover of Gary Moore's Over the Hills and Far Away?

Nylon Beat is brought up every once in a while because SES (Korea) covered one of their songs. They started out as a terribly commercial girl duo but ended up being pretty good.

ayu1m 4th September 2006 08:07 PM

^I think it's a Swedish band but it has 1 or 2 members from Finland o.O

But the main band is Swedish or something..?

immel 4th September 2006 08:09 PM

I don't know :f...

Over the Hills and Far Away is a great song :yes.

My country doesn't have music. All you find in music stores here is crap.

ayu1m 4th September 2006 11:18 PM

^poor you, your country must be very boring place to live in :(

alt.total-loser 4th September 2006 11:19 PM

Here in Cucumber Land we have random rap. And the band Greenday. Which I don't like.

Dustie 5th September 2006 12:30 PM

Listen and let your ears be pwned by Edyta's voice.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfsKolaMhzg - To nie ja bylam Ewa [It wasn't me who was Eve]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCKUfLXduXg - One and One
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoMqIvJce1s - theme song from Pocachontas [Polish], it's a bit out of sync...

Most of her English songs suck. And so does everything else about her career, except for her voice and appearance. For the years, the way she's been managed is a disaster.

immel 5th September 2006 12:40 PM

this post reminded me about another Swedish artist that's also a bit popular internationally, she is called Robyn. If you can, make sure to listen to her songs Be Mine and Who's That Girl, they are excellent if you like catchy, a bit retro, pop.

Again! o.O

"okej" is how you write the pronounciation of "O.K." in Polish!
