Omigod you guys, it’s finally happening. JoongAng Ilbo reports that BoA has been secretly working on an English album and plans to debut in America as soon as later this year. The horror. The excitement.

According to JoongAng, BoA has already finished recording parts of the album in various countries. Orchestrating this secret project at the helm is, of course, Mr. Lee Soo-Man himself, who has been approaching several American labels and producers such as Peter Rafelson, who has worked with Madonna, in order to assess the viability of BoA breaking into the American market.

Why has she been keeping so quiet, while Rain, SE7EN and other Korean artists have been loudly drumming up their plans to venture into the American market? A source at SM Entertainment says they “didn’t want to create too much hype.” Very smart, considering the aforementioned Korean artists, such as Rain, have yet to produce any tangible results.

In March, BoA will have completed recording and further details regarding the new album will be announced. Also, in May, SM will announce more comprehensive future plans for BoA, including the label and the creative staffs involved. We will keep you updated as more information is released.

That...is AWESOME!!!! :D :D :D I'm so excited!! I'm definitely buying it!

But I thought there was news that she was quitting to go to school in America?

Beauty4123 5th February 2008 09:32 PM

let's see if it'll come true. i dunno how much success BoA would have here, though.

DestinyWishes 5th February 2008 09:32 PM

Wow, I hope she makes it, it could help Asian Music come more popular in America. Plus BoA is great and I'll be glad if she gets the success she deserves.

cloud♥honey 5th February 2008 09:58 PM

If the album would sound like THE FACE it would be awesome.

Halla 5th February 2008 10:07 PM

I think it's better to start low-key and work your way up, rather than having a huge hype & then failing to live up to it. so good for BoA :yes

the last time I heard her use english she still had a heavy accent, but it's been a while and even then you could hear her english had potential ...

Coelacanth 5th February 2008 10:39 PM

I don't know guys, I don't think she can be 'urban' enough for America's mainstream. And if she's too 'urban', she's just gonna get laughed at. =/

Raiu-Ayu 5th February 2008 10:42 PM

I hope she does well :D BoA would be good in mainstream international music. I think she'd have better luck if she debuted in the UK first tho instead of America. She could actually give us some music cuz the stuff we have now is just plain weird!

bondingo 5th February 2008 10:54 PM

I just squealed like a schoolgirl when I read that. I am so freaking excited about this! I love BoA, so this will seriously be awesome. I hope she can make it here, but after Utada's failure to even break not the American market slightly, it seems very unlikely.

Raiu-Ayu 5th February 2008 11:05 PM

Yeah but Utada's music isn't exactly what you'd call mainstream, you gotta get used to it. BoA is more typical music but not in a bad way :D

ayumisrael 5th February 2008 11:09 PM

But didn't they report that Seven and countless korean artists are working on an English album as well? (and it didn't happen)

Calico 5th February 2008 11:18 PM

I've heard rumors about this already and I'm still not too sure what to think. I'll probably support her for the sake of supporting her even if I don't like the album much (BoA is a total hit or miss for me) but I honestly don't have high hopes for how she'll do.

MemorialAddress 6th February 2008 12:33 AM

Eww.
She will fail, sorry to say.

[kokoro♥] 6th February 2008 12:33 AM

BoA's english fails.
She is going to flop way worse than Hikki.

MemorialAddress 6th February 2008 12:36 AM

^^^Seriously.
Americans will not listen to her.

~Amy~ 6th February 2008 12:36 AM

*sigh* Sadly I am also very worried about her english. Her english is bad... >.<

JesA 6th February 2008 12:46 AM

haha i just read this on BoAjjang....i have some faith in her...if she releases a well-promoted album with some music similar to the MADE IN TWENTY albums tracks, she should be good. I would love for her to at least get to the top 50, if not much higher. I really can't wait!

CHE.R.RY 6th February 2008 01:24 AM

It's too bad America is so prejudice against Asians :(
There's no way she'll make a breakthrough here (and yes yes, attack/argue with me all you want but it's true). Especially cuz her English is not entirely up to par. I'll buy her album either way...even though I'm not entirely into BoA.

stickyrice 6th February 2008 01:35 AM

well it's worth a try... though I also doubt she'll make it big here =\

norain 6th February 2008 01:58 AM

Right now, no asian has yet to break the market...oh wait we can say tila is doing well...but heck...she's not the asian I be wanting to represent asians. Anyway, BoA's release will probably fail worse than everyone else who's tried...she should just release it in asia and do dat...

Now Angela Aki on the other hand...should release an album in America...see, she speaks perfect English. =)

Not only that, I think america is starting to diverse more anyway, so I have a feeling Utada's 2nd english album will be BANG!

Don't forget that Jin actually sold quite a few albums in America with his rap career.
