Veneers
 

I was poking through my Ayu album booklets the other day, when I noticed that her teeth in the beginning of her career were kinda messy.

I knew she had something done to her teeth because these:

are just not natural.
her smile also looks awkward and forced, like she's not used to the feel of those teeth, and shes not sure what to do with her lips.

her teeth are uneven and have some crowding. (if you have the booklet, go look at it, it might be easier to see there instead of in this scan)
They're not actually all that bad, but the more I thought about it, and the more I looked, I realized that Ayu never really used to smile like this.
She tends to do a closed mouth smirk or smile, or those little poutty cat/duck lips, but early pictures of her with a full tooth grin are few and far between.

It made me wonder if that was because she was uncomfortable with her teeth. I think she may have had a few things done to her teeth over time (whitening/bleaching/things along those lines), but the most obvious procedure seems to have happened sometime around (miss)understood.
The cover shows off those teeth, and suddenly there are all these pictures of her with huge open-mouthed smiles.

I showed my mum (who is a dentist) some before and after pictures, and she said Ayu had some veneers (all over), and maybe some minor orthodontics (on the bottom) done. Veneers can take a few hours to do, so she could've been in and out of the dentist in a day or two with completely new teeth, and few noticeable side effects (no swelling to her face/tongue, no real discomfort or interference).

What I'm trying to figure out here, is not IF or WHAT she had done, but exactly WHEN it happened.
I don't have a lot of singles so I can't get closer than saying it happened between MY STORY and (miss)understood.
I'm wondering if anyone has any singles, or magazines that came out around that time that could help us pinpoint exactly when she had these veneers done.

I'm also wondering if Ayu has ever said anything about them. Why she decided to do it, and what she thinks of them now etc.

I don't know about you guys, but I thought she was fine before. These new teeth are too bright and false looking. No one has teeth like this:

i just know that ayu had her teeth fixed during the time when shooting her PVs....in a country where japanese paparazzi didn't follow all the time XD

essentially just a little covering that goes over your teeth.

i think people look better with fixed teeth...

but apparently that's an american thing or something...

I think there was a comment here once where someone said "All americans care about is teeth"

iono, to me, they're pretty important...why would you want to have all crooked and off teeth? And who would ever want to kiss you if your teeth were like all yellow and gross looking...

well being all yellowed and gross looking is different to having some crowding i think.

yellow, black, or brown teeth and gums are gross because it shows that the person doesn't take care of themself.
crowding or spacing may not be super pretty, but its not disgusting and shows little of the persons willingness to take care of their oral hygiene.

ive gotta say...i think she might look worse now....theyre just waay tooo much!

I think she looks gorgeous either way. Her old set of teeth made her very cute.

Yea, she had them fixed in between the fairyland and HEAVEN singles.

well, you can mend teeth in like 6 hours if you go for a professional dentist or something... i'm sure ayu could pay for it

I think she looks better now than before, I hate crocked teeth and I'm glad that I don't have them.
But maybe that's just because Europe(or maybe only Germany?) cares really, really much about teeth, every second 10-15 years old person has braces(I have them, too) to fix even slightest things(1 tooth is 30° turned for me for example)
