OMG I KNEW IT! wen i watched the CDTV performance i saw her mouth a "C" at the beginning of the word. i was like HEY she doenst say "every promises" if it starts witha C! thanks!

..and of course..once again..eveyrone was wrong...ayumi ended up having a way deeper meaning..(again) that we hardly understand..:think :think

OMG this engrish is worst than I imagined! It's not as horrible as Tomiko Van's "Drive me nuts" engrish but it's still very YUCK:shrug I hope this is not the true thing...but i tried listening with these and they really suit...so scary....Thanks nmskalmn!

Before you bust on Ayu's engrish... I think she's talking about a cardinal in the CATHOLIC CHURCH, therefore that line makes sense, since she is catholic (i think)

I'm not talking about the meaning. Cardinal can mean other things such as positions, etc so we can't really guess what she's saying until we listen to the whole thing.
I just found this part too hard to endure LOL:

"But I wanted only keep my love"

It's really scary lol

About Ayu's religion there's a discussion about it here: http://www.ahsforum.org/forum/showth...light=religion

The definition for "cardinal" according to the American Heritage Dictionary:
car·di·nal adj. 1. Of foremost importance; paramount: a cardinal rule; cardinal sins

So I think she is referring to sins of great magnitude. ^^

ooo that does make snes... forgive.. even the greatest sins

lol GO AHS TRANSLATION TEAM! :cool

okay i think this...

she wants to keep her love no matter what major sin, no matter what immortal sin (meaning like grave.. well in the catholic church tahst wat that means).. all for her love...

that wasnt so hard... mabey them in japan understand that sorta english :think

antistar 22nd August 2003 07:22 AM

It makes sense, I just wish she's gotten an english speaker to phrase it properly for her.

samurai has a good point, after all, it is just a fan site

appears 22nd August 2003 10:31 AM

but she doesnt credit the engrish in the lyrics booklet, just like she didnt with RAINBOW... she must be too ashamed to want it published [?] by not printing it, people are free to guess what it is, if it was actually written, they could go "hey, that doesnt sound like that.. her english is ****!" so perhaps shes trying to maintain some level of mystique as well as saving her ass at the same time

HanabiChick 22nd August 2003 10:54 AM

I'm going to check and see if I can hear them...

Samurai Hamasaki's right about it seeming like she wants to keep her love even though in the eyes of the church it's wrong.... I was brought up a Catholic, and all I can say is - I couldn't even begin to count how many things are wrong or 'sins' to them, there's quite a lot. And in speaking of cardinal sins, that usually means punishment is burning in hell for all eternity...

Here are the lyrics sung by the background singers (from the same site posted above):

Quote:

War and distraction.
Crime and desire.
But I wanted only keep my love.
Every cardinal sins.
Every immoral things.
But I was holding on for my love.
Btw, I think it is easier to hear the bg singers in the CDTV live than the mp3.

I think everything apart from "cardinal" is right. It doesn't sound like "cardinal", although it does start with a "k" sound. "But I wanted only keep my love" is good enough for me, the message is clear enough.

Although it would be great for the lyrics to be in perfect English, but at least we know that she wrote it herself and is true to herself. Even if she just asked someone to check, someone might start accusing her of not writing her own lyrics. I think the reason why she didn't publish the lyrics is that she doesn't consider them as lyrics at all, it's like something she just sings along to in the end. Therefore I don't think it matters what she sings, although it's great to know that even the chorus's lyrics has such deep meaning. :thumbsup

We shouldn't really worry about the tiny details. I think the lyric's meaning is far more important than the grammar or whatever.

silliecc 22nd August 2003 03:46 PM

i dont think she said
"Every cardinal sins.
Every immoral things."
doesn't realli sound like that to me

silliecc 22nd August 2003 03:53 PM

I'm not sure but I think she said
"Every promises. Every memories."
