Who is Maria?

I'm sorry if this has been brought up/discussed before (and I'm sure it has, but I searched the forums and didn't find anything), but do we know who "Maria" is? The church theme makes me think of the Joan of Arc theme she used in a photobook, and in the cover of Free & Easy, but I could be wrong about their relation. Does anyone know for sure?

pommy48 20th April 2009 06:56 AM

it's virgin mary, but some people say Mary Magdalene

actually there's 2 thread already talking about this~ or just talking about M

the mother of Jesuschrist you mean

(sorry, just to make it clear)

jon_the_d 20th April 2009 08:48 AM

^ some do say

"holy Mary , mother of God"

Jesus was God too don't forget. the holy trinity and such....father son and holy ghost. all are god.

anyway, my point is, religion is blurry, and view points are manifold. it's impossible to be picky with it.

Ayumi_lover 20th April 2009 09:09 AM

Maria was only strong woman for Ayu as Joan d'Arc was, so don't think Ayu christian^^

C+R+E+AYUMI 20th April 2009 09:31 AM

oh my my,it's clear!!

it's holy Mary, mother of Jesus Christ!

it couldn't be Magdalene Mary, because she prays Mary and it would be impossible to pray Mary Magdalene...!

Andrenekoi 20th April 2009 10:15 AM

Mary Magdalene is a saint... So, it IS possible to pray to her... =)

zyoeru 20th April 2009 02:01 PM

^ Exactly. The love that Ayu is singing about isn't a problem you'd pray to Jesus' mother about.
But yes, I have to agree even if you believe in the trinity, Virgin Mary still isn't God's mother. God has no mother. ROFL.

But yes, I believe she's singing about Mary Magdalene, because as Adrenekoi pointed out: Mary Magdalene is a saint. She's the saint of quite a lot. :)

C+R+E+AYUMI 20th April 2009 02:37 PM

mmmh..I am catholic but, honestly, I never prayed Mary Magdalene.
Did Someone of you really do?

chloeM 20th April 2009 03:09 PM

yeah... it was the mother of jesus... i adore her~

Andrenekoi 20th April 2009 07:55 PM

from wikipedia:
Patronage apothecaries; Atrani, Italy; Casamicciola Terme, Ischia; contemplative life; converts; glove makers; hairdressers; penitent sinners; people ridiculed for their piety; perfumeries; pharmacists; reformed prostitutes; sexual temptation; tanners; women[2]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Magdalene =)

Wow, Virgin Mary makes perfect sense. :) I can't believe I've never thought of that.

ImpactBreaker 20th April 2009 09:54 PM

Yeah, i'm quite positive it is Virgin Mary. Remember ayu is wearing a white wedding dress on the M PV? It represents "virginity". :yes There are a lot of other reasons why it is Virgin Mary she's talking about and not Mary Magdalene (check my posts on the previous threads).

Catholics, which is actually the religion that prays for saints, don't often pray for Mary magdalene THAt often either. (brazil is the biggest catholic country in the world and I've never sseem anybody here EVER praying to Mary Magdalene to be honest). They often pray a lot for Virgin Mary, which is what ayumi is doing in the beggining of the PV (praying, and then Mary[ayu, on the PV with the wedding dress] appears in her prayers and grant her some light for her contemplative thoughts).

Latin americans pray a lot for Mary, way more than catholics from other continets... Even so, I read some time ago that Saint Anthony is the most popular saint... So... it's hard to say how much people prays to Mary Magnalene, after all, she have the patronage of women...

But I don't think is she either... I only think that the only person that knows for sure which Mary is the song about is Ayu herself =)

The atention payed to each saints depend a lot on where you are =)

zyoeru 21st April 2009 06:35 AM

^ Plus, we can't really say for sure just how many people pray to Mary Magdalene. Maybe someone should carry out a survey. XD

ImpactBreaker 21st April 2009 06:42 AM

^Well, I believe only catholics pray to saints (can't remember any other christian religion that has "saints" but maybe I'm misinformed). Brazil has the largest population of catholics in the world. nobody here prays to Mary Magdalene and it's a fact here. People massively pray for Virgin Mary here, far more than to Saint Anthony. Not sure about the other catholics in the world though.

I know. In Japan, in which the christianity rate is kinda low, MARIA is a short name they often use to refer to Virgin Mary. Several times have I see references in Japanese stuff (non-ayu related) about Virgin Mary and Jesus. Practically never about Mary Magdalene. :shrug
