I feel as though the best Ayu is Ayu now because she's loving the work that she's doing most at this moment. Why dwell on the fact that X was better than Y when X came out years ago when she was different? This is Ayu now, and we have to live with her now. Not saying that she's gone down in quality (visually, maybe.. musically.. not really.), but it seems like some people continue to have this sort of weird ~wow 1998-2003 was AMAZING. 2004-2009 can go suck a lemon!~ mentality that just baffles me. Had she released any of these tracks before, I feel like they'd have been just as big. Too much pedestal-placing on the Ayu-that-was and too much negating of the Ayu-that-is..

But hey, we all have different viewpoints.
It's interesting, a while ago I watched an interview with Marilyn Manson where he talked about fans having to evolve with the artist as they evolve.

But you know what, some people don't want or need to evolve. Some people are perfectly happy where they are, and in that case, for those who only love the old Ayu, maybe they need to move on. I know I've thought about it quite a lot.

Personally, I really miss a lot of the things I used to feel in her music, like for example, originality, innovation, excellence, and the pride I felt she displayed in herself, and her productions.

Now, a lot of those things are near gone for me. While I'm very happy and amazed that she continues to have so much passion in her music and everything she does, I'm not going to praise her every move or have a positive opinion on everything she puts out just because of it.

In my opinion, which doesn't really matter at all, she needs to step back and reevaluate what she's doing and where she wants to head with her music.

In any case, maybe her peak has just passed...I'm just sad that her peak in quality had to pass as well.

And maybe you guys don't agree with that...but...to be seriously honest, it's much less of a personal opinion than anything else in this post.

So anyway...Sunset was good I thought, for "present" Ayu anyway

I think it's really interesting how much cutting out the stupid male dancers and showing more of the fans does for a video.
