English has "it". It's just that we have such strong connotations attached to the word where we tend to only think about things and not people when using it.

And yeah, there ARE other gender categories. They just weren't ever talked about. I guess Intersex would be the biggest "other" category here. And there's so much debate over what exactly that means, and how we can even apply it.

It reminds me of the case of Caster Semenya, the athlete from South Africa, who was almost stripped of her records after a gender test found her to be closer to the of a male? Many people identified her as intersex because of this, even though she, herself, still felt that she was a woman.

I think they later used a different gender test to say that she was a woman.

There are tons of cases like this...People just don't talk about them so much.


Moral of the story. Gender and identity are much more complicated than most people are used to understanding, and we shouldn't have to put identity into specific boxes with certain labels.

Every individual is going to be different. Which is why, personally, I always leave it up to them to decide, what they want to be and how I see them.
