Velfarre is closing down

Quote:
The announcement that popular Roppongi nightclub Velfarre is closing its doors for good at the end of the year marks the end of an era. The huge facility was opened by Tokyo-based record company Avex in 1994 just after the Juliana's disco/rave phenomenon had peaked, and since then it has struggled to adjust to changing musical and nightlife trends.

Informed sources say the main reason Avex decided to close the club is that the Tokyo Midtown development, now nearing completion on the former Defense Agency site on Gaien-Higashi Dori, is causing property prices and rents in that part of Roppongi to go up. Avex's current lease on the property has expired, and it is not renewing it, probably because Velfarre has become something of a money-losing white elephant.

The last event scheduled at the club is the appropriately titled "Last Dance," which kicks off at sunrise on Jan. 1 and continues until noon that day. Featured deejays include DJ Shinkawa, Monobe Nakahara and Roger Jordan. For more information, check out the Velfarre Web site: http://velfarre.avex.co.jp/index.html.

I remeber hearing about it and it makes me so sad cause I have always wanted to go there and it is after all the club responsible for making Ayu famous. Now I have no chance at all.

It makes me sad bacause it was a big eurobeat scene... And this probably means even less exposure for that music. I guess its time is up anyways...

It's so cheesy but I feel like crying... lol

I am going to Japan next year during the summer after I graduate high school, for 2 weeks and I was all excited to go to this club because Ayu always went and I know they would have awesome trance music!

Sad to see it closing down... it was the place where many artists started from.

Yup, including part of the whole Para Para movement! It was at both Twinstar and Velfarre. When Twinstar closed down, I had a bad feeling the same was going to happen to velfarre too. Looks like it's really going to happen. It's really sad and I think it's defining as the end of an era for the Jpop industry.
