fairyland: "c/w"?

This means "comes with," right? I'm assuming, it may not really be.

What is the deal with this single? (

) Is this single A side or a double? Her covers of the single just say "fairyland," but everywhere I turn I see "fairyland c/w alterna."

So, basically, is fairyland a single- or double-A side? What's up with the c/w stuff?

From what I know...

A-side: A single that is featured with one main song (i.e HEAVEN, CAROLS, Moments).

B-side: A new song featured on a single, but not in the title (i.e theme of a-nation '03 from &, Will on HEAVEN, Beautiful Fighters on BLUE BIRD, etc).

Double A-side: A single in which two songs are featured (i.e Bold & Delicious/Pride, Startin'/Born To Be..., STEP you/is this LOVE?).

Well the definiton of what is A Side or B-side is rather vague. By several observations I've made through artists discographies and the likes, I'd generally say A-side are main tracks, most likely to be featured in albums. B-sides are songs that are usually kinda like an alternative/bonus/random cover track and usually won't be featured on an album. There are obviously, several exceptions for these definitions and a lot of gray areas, which all depends how randomly artists and their companies will treat something like A or B. I believe this A and B stuff are reminescents from old vynils which had an A-side featuring the main songs and a B-side usually filler songs, bonus tracks, alternative songs and the likes.

c/w can means "coupled with" or "come with". It makes no difference.

Ayu's idea of B-sides are really quite vague, as she treats most of them as A-sides, and they appear to exist as value-for-money bonuses on singles, thus why they are often single-quality and have PVs. That's why people think GAME and alterna are a-sides when they technically aren't. You can usually tell because the theme of the single do not match them (eg. the summery look of the fairyland and alterna compared to the STEP you single cover which works for both STEP you and is this LOVE?)

Most artists' b-sides are they ones that are not really album-worthy but still worth producing. Ayu's has only had three of these I think, ever free and Theme of A-nation 03 and teens -acoustic ver.-....

By Depend on you, she was a top 10 artist. Maybe Max had an idea... "Put other song on single, but not on album (!!!!), more people buy, chart position high~!" and Ayumi just went with it.

As for the whole A-side and B-side I'm gonna write down what I think since I haven't done it before.

An A-side is a track that is featured in the single's name (n/a if there are more than 2 A-sides).
A B-side is a track on a single release, which isn't mentioned in the single's name and does not appear on a studio album from which the A-side is from.

I realize what I just wrote has been said before in this thread.

I think its more easy to explain with the western type of relesing altough we don´t have double a-sides......

In Gemayn it goes that way: a single is followed by an album and other 2-5 singles.... so these singles mostly have one track from the album on it (the A-side) and a track that didn´t fit on the album or was not worthy or there alredy were to much 8the b-side9.....

The original term comes from when singles were released as vinyls.

The single was on side A, and because remixes weren't too common when vinyls were the main format, the B-side was usually another song either from the album or a new song.

Although now with CD's it's impossible to term it that way, and it's rather ridiculous anyway. A single meant a single song hence the name. Ayu has her treble and quadruple A-sides though so c/w is hardly too strange.

well it's not only in Germany that way... in the US singles and albums are
released the same way ... think about the b-sides on the western singles as a
bonus or songs that don't make it on the album ... I still don't get it why the
japanese release 3-5 singles before a album comes out ... no wonder why current
sales of singles are dropping ... but maybe ayu's next release will be an album
and afterwards 2 more singles ... with lots of goodies on them ...

after one year since her last single release it could be a next step to conquer the world lol
