The best farewell song

Hello~

I really need your help and opinion. Here's the thing:

My friend is going far away for a long time. So me and some other friends are going to make her a present. To her card we're going to write a message/poem that should give her courage on her journey. And my friend loves Ayu.

Sooo, I decided that I should use Ayumi's lyrics.
The problem is, I don't know which song has the best "goodbye/be strong" lyrics. It doesn't have to be a whole song, it can be just a part of the lyrics.

So go ahead and tell me what song lyrics would you use, if your friend was leaving?

I was thinking that winding road might be a good one.

I apologize my bad english. It's not my native language.

Actually, I think that Replace is a way better one;

I've used it before for one of my friends :p

<3

 15. Replace
* I keep on singing
So that my voice may reach you

** I tell you
And I'd like you
To tell someone
"You are not alone"

Once we thought and talked
About the distant future
We are now standing at that place

We dreamed fantasies
In our infancies
They are now unfolding surreally before our eyes

But I never forget your profile
When you said firmly
With tears in your eyes
That you would never be beaten
*** I keep on singing
So that my voice may reach you
I hope you will walk on without giving up
Till the time we can meet again
Please show me your usual smile then

One thing I've realized is
This road will continue as before

Whatever wind may blow us
Under the sky of whatever colour
I hope you will smile

I leave this song here
Instead of saying good-bye
I hope you will walk on without giving up
Till the time we can meet again
Even if you may sometimes shed a secret tear

* (repeat)

I leave this song here
Instead of saying good-bye
I hope you will walk on without giving up
Till the time we can meet again

Bolded parts are my favorite <3

Well here's my picks..

Angel's Song
I heartily hope that you will not be
A victim of this sad age
I sing this song today just as I pray
So that my dearest wish may reach you

Daybreak
No matter how far apart we are,
we're still under the same sky.
Don't forget that we're both
travelling to the place
we once dreamed of.

I agree. Replace is the best farewell song based on the lyrics.

That's just beautiful. Plus, this song is way better than "Replace".

I liked these lyrics (I put a lot!):
I loved the lyrics to Replace a lot.

Friend
If you find something you can believe in, I'll certainly give you a hand.
Again, again I tell you that, "Even if we're separated, in our hearts, we're still friends."

Depend on You
If your ever-flying wings can flap no longer, I'll warm them.

There must be someone who needs you.
That person is surely always smiling by your side.

You fly on and on. If you're tired, you can rest your wings, so I'll be here.

Walking Proud
The sky I looked up at was beautiful; I thought of you
I wished I could walk with firm steps facing forward like you.

...Does this voice reach you? Does it ring in your heart?
I'm walking on today looking at your back as a guidepost to live

Angel's Song
I heartily hope that you will not be a victim of this sad age
I sing this song today just as I pray so that my dearest wish may reach you.

Independent
You come up next to me and talk about nonsense.
You're trying, despite your clumsiness, to encourage me.

This must be how it'll be for us.

*Looking up and smiling slightly, gazing at the sky,
tiring of running we walk a little. Just like that... are you ready?

One by one, little by little, see? We leave behind footprints.
They form one path, they form now.

It can't be only good times ahead, but...

It seems like I need you, and if you need me.
then we don't really need a reason. These days aren't bad at all, are they?

Connected
We're connected at each and every place so when I think this word, you'll already know.

Who...
When I was heartbroken, who stayed by my side?
On whose shoulder did I shed my tears?
With whom did I share my joy?
With whom did I hold hands?
I remember.

On the night we spent apart, the moon was far away and I was crying.
On the night we spent apart, the moon was far away and I was crying.

Who taught me true strength?
Who taught me kindness?
On whose account do I walk?
Who did I want to stroke my hair?
Who didn't give up for me?
I'll never forget.

When I stray from the path, and when the path is too long,
I was muttering to myself.
That's the way life is...

I pray that this singing voice will reach you...
I pray that this singing voice will reach you...

Theme of a Nation '03
Memories are sweet because we passed through the time
However sad now, we can talk about it with a smile some day

I think melody-wise, "Who..." is definitely the song to choose.

There are lots of songs I can think of. Now that I see the lyrics, Replace seems great!

Although this song, end roll, is much more on the mourning side then on the trying-to-take-an-optimistic-approach like Replace was, it's still worth looking over:

I can't go back
no matter how much I miss it.
That time was definitely fun, but
that was then and this is now.

I remember how I've always
pulled the curtains in an awkward way.

Where are you?
Where have you gone?
You've gone on a long trip or something
with the most important person.

If it started with
something I said,
we can see our end. It couldn't
have been the beginning.

Like a child crying for something,
with all my strength, goodbye.

And I walk on.
I'll walk alone and see for myself,
with light shining on the path
you've abandoned.

People are sad.
Are they really?
I said they're happy, but
you can think that if you want to.

So I walk on.
You'll go too, won't you?
With light shining
on our two separate paths.

I think 'Who..' is more about reminiscing about one who changed your life or something rather than saying goodbye, as it repeatedly states how she wants someone to hear her song once more. :\ And 'Daybreak' seems more about 'love' in a way, on how she's bound to end up in the same place, however far apart she and her loved one are from each other.

Replace still is, to me one of the best songs to say 'goodbye', as lyrically it's very emotional. :]

That's very touching, and at the same time somewhat 'cheerful'.
Kind of like, "We'll meet again at the same place someday" feel.
I'd agree with Daybreak.

I agree with MC. Daybreak would be a good farewell song. The lyrics are simply impeccable.

Yes, plus the melodies and the music in the album version is simply perfect, I love it the most from I Am... It's so upbeat and meaningful. Pardon me for asking this, but do these lines:

Don't forget that we're both
travelling to the place
we once dreamed of.

Refer to death/ eternal rest/ limbo/ heaven/ afterlife?

I like M...

Beginnings come at random
but endings always have a reason...

or Moments...

If I could flow like the wind
I would reach you
If I could shine like a moon
I would keep shining on you

I'll be anything
If it can stop you from being seized with fear

SEASONS...

Today was fun,
and tomorrow will surely be fun as well.
"These days will continue forever,"
or so I thought at the time.

Today was very sad,
and even if I cry tomorrow,
someday the time will come that I can laugh
and remember the time we had together.

How much time must pass by,
in this finite existence of ours?
We'll live in the now,
and what will we find?

HANABI...

There's never a day that I have
to remember you because
I never for a moment forgot you.

I want to see you, I want to see you.
Your smiling face in my memory is
just too kind.

End Roll...

Where are you?
Where have you gone?
You've gone on a long trip or something
with the most important person.

So I walk on.
You'll go too, won't you?
With light shining
on our two separate paths.
