[2009] [Discussion] She said "You're a bad Ayu-fan"!?

I talked to this girl the other day, who is also an Ayu-fan, about her HUGE cataloge. She said she would surely purchase all of Ayu's releases, including DVDs, singles and so on. I said that "it would be great to have all of her releases, but, unfortunately, I don't have the money. There's a lot of other artists I want to support, too, so I will only buy her CDs". She went silent for a moment, and returned with "Oh my God, you are a bad Ayu-fan! You should only support Ayu, not the other crappy artists, like Jeff Buckley!" (she said Jeff Buckley because I told her I also like his music) After that, she blocked me...

So, the discussion is: do you think a fan is "bad" just because he/she don't purchase everything Ayu releases? Like I have said several times, I actually do feel quilty about not purchasing all her CDs, DVDs and so on, but that dosen't necessarily make me a bad fan, right? I love her music and I respect her deeply enough to NEVER download her singles or DVDs just because I can't afford them. Maybe I'm overreacting, but I feel kinda offended now... :O

LoL. then that makes us all bad fans for other artists... she's stupid. ayu is not the only artist that you should support... but yeah, i think she has a point that you should at least support the artist you like BEST! but dont buy EVERYTHING. that's stupid as well... unless youre f-ing rich!

as for me, i only support Ayu, Koda and MM in terms of buying CDs.... but i dont think of myself as bad Utada-fan or bad <artist name>-fan. hehehe.

get over it. =P

I agree with jeffycue. You do what you can to support your favorite artists, but if you dont have the money to do it, you shouldn't feel guilty. It's not as if you not buying that ONE ayu CD is putting her in the poorhouse....she's got millions coming in constantly. That girl's very close minded.....I imagine someone like that would probably use the money she needed to buy food or pay bills to buy the next ayu release.

she sounds crazy tbh. i understand that it's nice to support your favorite artists, but that doesn't mean you have to buy everything they release. there are many people that i adore but i only own 1-5 CDs/DVDs/ect. by them, because honestly, there are more important things than expensive asian music. you shouldn't feel guilty because you can't afford them, not everyone is made of money.

I'll go back and buy all of Ayu's stuff later when I'm supporting myself and on my own.

ok people that buy all of ayu's things are devoted fans, whereas regular people who appreciate her music and respect her is a fan, there's a difference between devotion and...regular

If not buying everything Ayu comes out with makes people bad fans, I don't think Ayu would have any "good" ones! No one can afford everything she has in her discography! Have you seen it? It's HUGE! Not to mention tour goods and other releases she may have! That person is crazy, and you should be glad if you never hear from her again =/

I totally agree with you.

But member who made this thread.. I think you could imagine the answer: Of course you don't have to have every CD, DVD, stuff, whatever to be a fan of Ayu. A lot of people here don't have everything of her ^^'
And a lot of peope support more artists. You are a normal eh?

Pay no attention to that person. Good for them that they can have almost every Ayu release, but you don't have to have everything to be a "fan." You should support your fav. artists if you can, but other things are more important than a CD+2DVD First Press edition of A BEST 2 -BLACK- and -WHITE-, for example.

Just do what you can, or want to do and you're a fan nonetheless. A "good" fan is one who respects Ayu for who she is and what she does. You don't have to like everything she does or own everything she's released.

Get it if you want to have it, and only if you can afford it =]

Sorry, but true. Like, I have every single album, and every DVD...yes I'm obsessed, and that's okay, but I love other artists too. My itunes library has 68.4 GB of music...2.86 GB is Ayu. Some people man...

Sorry, but your friend is exactly the kind of fan I don't like. A lot of people can't afford to buy every single item an artist puts out, especially for J-artist who have multiple releases every year. It doesn't make them any less of a fan.

Wow, she must be really rich then! But still, it doesn't matter if you can afford to buy Ayu's stuff, or any artist. To me, the most important thing is to enjoy their music... that's what they really want after all.

Wow. I don't buy her singles very often, only in special circumstances (BLUE BIRD > gorgeous cover, poster, great remixes, liked both songs, GREEN/Days > amazing cover, poster, no new album for holidays). I do purchase all of her studio albums though... and I do download everything else. Lol. I purchase her concerts too. But the amount of love I have for Ayu is never-ending and indescribable so I know I am a huge fan. That's all that matters.

OMG! Crazy! Your ex-friend needs to get over herself and her obsession and realize that it's okay to like other artists.

You should have said something like, "Sorry but I seriously think Ayu wouldn't consider you a fan since you listen to her "only" her.

If anything, she'll think you're a gross creepy freak." Don't worry. You have people on here who'll support and understand you.

No, you're a bad fan. Seriously, I doubt that your friend has every single thing that ayu has released even stuff the stuff that's like super rare to get. So if anything, your friend is a "bad" fan...just like me and everyone else on here.

She is correct. Everyone should only support Ayu and no one else. This way, everyone in the world will be more unified and will clearly lead to a step closer towards world peace. Every other singer should realize this and retire for the benefit of humanity. True Ayu fans are the key to a happy and better future.

First of all,

I didn't know there were requirements to be a "good fan". I also didn't know there were different types of fans. I thought a fan was a person who enjoyed someone or something.

I try to buy Ayu's discography when I have extra money. But, I won't obsess over getting everything Ayu has ever released.

Your "friend" blocking you is a major blessing. She has her nose so far up her ass, she doesn't know her **** stinks. I honestly think not one single person can afford all that Ayu has released nor do I think anybody is that far disconnected from reality to spend all their money towards Ayu. Honey, you're the type of fan an artist wants and needs; someone who truly cares and doesn't harass other fans or belittle their love.
