That's great~ I know it's difficult to be just ranked in there but yeh, still, I wish Ayu would've been higher ranked, say in the 20's or something. ^^;;

Calm down everyone I think some of you have a too high expectation for ayu... -_- Those artists ranked within top 20 were from 1970's-1980's and their popularities and impacts were a lot more impressive during that time than the 1990's and recent ones.

Shena Ringo deserves her hgher rank as her music still remains is one of its kind. Hikki, I don't know, well she still holds the record for best selling Jpop album of all time. But if you want quantity, Ayu's could easily bury Hikki with all her stuff.

Well, I think it goes by different standards. Perhaps they judge by CD sales or survey on their popularity. Still, it's cheers for Ayu for getting in!

i guess itz their impact on society...those artists high up like momoe yamaguchi and sakamoto kyu are one of a kind, with huge impact in the society years after their resignation or death...i guess ayu just isn't at that point that

hikki and shiina ringo have their own uniqueness in the jpop industry, especially, consider the impact she has on the whole jpop industry that suddenly everyone is interested in R&B after the release of her first album....

This is time which they mainly played an active part.
Utada is most younger in 100
Ayu is the second youngest in 100.
This ranking shows the influence has given to Japanese music.
So this doesn't always show popularity and sells power.
Supposing we consider the influence to overseas,
a different result will be brought.
