Ayu: Diva much? Do you like it?

The title basically speaks for itself. Ayu seems to be such a diva, what with her taking up three seats on a plane just for her own comfort, and then some for her beloved teddy bear!

She spends tons of money in hours just on shoes; her accessories are covered in jewels; she demands certain foods to not contain certain ingrediants.

Question #1: Would you classify Ayu as a diva?
Question #2: Do you like it when she does this? Why?

You don't necessarily HAVE to answer these questions. This is just for you all to discuss your thoughts on Ayu being a diva and whether you lke it or not.

This is merely a thread for your opinions, of course. Please try to refrain from extreme bashing.

1. Yep she is definitely a diva - she is the J-Pop Empress so it's expected that she behaves in a certain manner. I still like how she behaves in a down-to-earth and crazy manner, especially around her staff and how she tries to connect to her fans.

What bugs me most is when certain celebs act like they are divas when they're just... some random rich person.

2. Doesn't really affect me. As long as she is happy and is not bothering anyone, I am happy. I just wouldn't like it if she did irresponsibly selfish things, but I've yet got to see that sort of behaviour.

Well, if you deny the fact that she's a diva, you're pretty much clueless about what the definition of "diva" is. Although there are varying levels of "diva." (See this example: Gwen Stefani)

Honestly, I don't care. I'd rather she spend her money and be happy than try to "save it all" and be normal. Why would ANYONE want to be normal when selling hundreds of thousands of CDs a year and making a TON of money off of it? Some would consider it modesty, but if you are a star, you might as well act like one. :|

#1: Yes, ayu is a diva.
#2. I don't think it should matter so much to one, her behaviour and whether she does in her personal life is belong to her, I don't think she should be judged for this... It's just natural that if she has billions of money she'll want to spend it for a lot of things, and she can.
As long as she doesn't hurt anyone it's her own business ^_^.

I personally don't like the "Diva" image in general. Just because you are a star and you are famous it isn't expected of you to act that why and it does give you the right to, and just because you have money it doesn't give you the right to spend it on thing you know you don't need and you are never going to use. I have never really had a lot of money and am always thankful for any that I get so I don't like it when I see celebs spending it like crazy on stupid stuff.

1. Well, I wouldn't classify her as a Diva, It is just lately she is acting like one.

2. I personally don't really like the why Ayu is acting lately. The Diva image don't suite her at all. She was always to me in a different category then anyone else but it just seems to me that lately she has kind of given in to the fame and money and acting the way others are these days. Everything about her is started to change a little at a time and it doesn't seem to fit her.

What I am thinking is that sense she is kind of venturing out of Japan a little, she want her image to appeal more to a less conservative audience, but she will lose some of her older fans this way. I say if you are in the music industry you should stick with what works. Stars need the realize that the way they act affects a lot of people and the need to be careful and do what work and what will benefit everyone and make everyone happy, not just themselves.

I am not bashing her or and body else I am just a really conservative person and like to be smart about my money, the way I act and the way people think about me. I am also easily happy with the little things in life. I don't need first class seats, 200 pairs of shoes and 20 body guards. That is just me, but if she isn't hurting anyone she can do what she wants.

I think in some respects she is a diva but then saying that she has earned it. In material ways she is a diva but she always remembers her fans and why she is making music. I think that as long as she remains true to what is important then seats on planes and hundreds of pairs of shoes don't really matter

I think people are way too bent out of shape when Ayu isn't pleasing THEM with her money. Let her do what she wants with her money. Its not like she's doing anything BAD with it. She deserves the chance to be a diva with everything she does for us, and I don't think she's being excessive at all. She still remembers us fans in the long run, and that's all that matters.

well, you are right about that.

I guess i am being a little jealous right now. i can't ever get a pair of shoes right now and I see someone buying 30 in less than a hour kind of bothers me, but she earned that money though.

She is a diva but I can't say that it would, or even should, bother me personally. I have been known to spend mass amounts of money on things that I don't need as well. However, that's not to say that I won't put in my two cents if it seems like she's being unreasonable or eccentric because she has so much money and power. There should be a balance in these situations and most 'divas' do not exercise restraint.

She's always been like this. I don't think she's "only recently" acted like a diva... :|

I really have only seen her act this why for about maybe 2 or 3 years now. I guess I see it now cause I am more into ayu info and news now than I was before. I only just played her music and watched her.

I see no problem in taking the flight seats all to yourself. I hate traveling with somebody by my side, though I definitekly don't have the money to have such a convenience for myself LOL. What I don't like is how she spends too much time shopping when she's not doing these concerts. I'd honestly wish to see more of her investing in her own career. Trying to learn to play an instrument, studying other things and bursting out o her restricted bubble. Unfortunatetly, I think ayu relies and abandons her career too much to her old composing and arranging team. It's time for her to try something fresh instead of only living in her Tomoya Nagase and Louis Vuitton love.

Well, she was trying the guitar a while ago..

Maybe we'll see the fruits of that endeavor soon? I think that Ayu investing time in her career is something that will only happen if she believes that it is necessary for her to do so. As for now, I think that she's hit the comfortable point where she can keep on doing what she's doing and it'll be fine.

It's not like she was meant to become a singer/songwriter, or that it was one of her top priorities in life. I think Ayu's becoming a singer and lasting this long has been enough since she's touched so many people's hearts, so she doesn't really need to "do anything fresh" you know? :|

This kind of thinking would be more suited for a mediocre singer. Those one hit wonder artists, who releases something awesome and later completely cool out in defeat. I know ayu has acomplished much, but she still has pontential and should be using part of this energy to invest in her works. Of course, I can never know what she's been doing in her private life. Maybe she's indeed investing on improving her singing skill and artistical abilities, however it really doesn't seem like it much =/

IMO, when she's gotta do it, she's doing it.

I mean just look at the concert rehearsals. She's definitely not halfarsing during those sessions.

But I think that after a while of doing this [being a superstar] she's become somewhat used to a formula [Three+ singles with themes then album..]

Only recently, she's had to slow down, for various reasons, some obvious and some not so obvious. I hope that this two-single Ayu doesn't last forever. I'm beginning to get impatient because of the lack of new releases. We should also remember the fact that she is aging like a normal person. She's almost 30 for crying out loud. D:

Me too, I'm impatient over this release drought. I've been criticizig her lately, but I guess it's just I'm kinda thirsty for new stuff, more and more, and ayu has slowed things down lately a bit too much for my impatience.

Getting on topic, I believe she sarted being a diva over when LOVeppears was released and she gained fame and money to act like one. I mean, she looks so divaish in the appears PV.

Well, her diva-attitude wasn't present at all during ASFXX promotion. [She was like a regular girl who had a road of amazing opportunity available to her everywhere she went x.x]

Then as TO BE and the following singles came out, it seemed more and more like she was becoming a "superstar." D:

She did seem more like a "superstar" only up till (miss)understood. Mainly B&D/Pride. That's really when the diva image stared for me.

I agreee to an extent. I'm not hoping for her to go into Hip-Hop or something like that, but it's almost like she was doing more with the music herself before (ie. the I am... era when she actually composed some of the album's best tracks). She's barely done that at all recently, although I sincerely appreciate the fact that she has NEVER handed over lyric writing to someone else. That is something I certainly appreciate, as that I'm sure becomes increasingly difficult with more and more songs out.

It's hard to say she hasn't branched out in recent years though in terms of genre. It almost seems like an entirely different artist when listening to say...Duty, than when listening to (miss)understood. Her genre shifts rapidly at times and it isn't like she hasn't merged into other styles of music. I mean, look at alterna, kiss o' kill, and Ladies Night. They're drastically different than the typical Boys & Girls or BLUE BIRD. Hopefully this makes sense to someone else besides me
