I think the reason why an Asian hasn't really made it over here is because you never really see very many in the media. Asian's haven't contributed to the music scene and brought a new sound. The Hispanics brought their own flavor to the table, Europeans have, as well as Blacks. But Asians haven't really done that. Maybe in their native country or in underground circles, but as far as reaching the U.S. mainstream audience they haven't done anything. Look at Kung-fu/Martial-Arts, Anime, and Asian Movies/Foods. It's so famous and well known because it was brought into the mainstream instead of staying in the darkness. I think if more Asians came out into the wood's and got with a record company that wasn't scared to promote them I think we would have been had a huge Asian singer. Record companies are scared because it's like venturing into the unknown. And we know how huge record companies are about taking risk's. They don't like doing that, lol.

But as for this deal with BoA? Meh. Her music is really not that good to tell you the truth. To me she kind of has a mediocre/manufactored sound. Not trying to hate but that's just how I view her rmusic. But hey, if she actually pulls through and releases a full English album, I guarantee she'll have better promotion than Hikki, and it could sell well and she'll be known as the first mainstream Asian artist. In one hand I think it'll flop, but in the other as I look at the crap that's hitting it big over here now she'll probably have a good chance if she's promoted good.

You think that's just Asians? Lol, every ethnicity has a sterotype. I don't think that garners towards their never being a mainstream popular artist. But that's just my opinion anyway...
Well where I live there is a lot of racism...I didn't mean to offend or anything. Just saying the way it is here. I'm white/Hispanic and have faced a lot of racial stuff so I guess I can agree.

I guess I was a little too general, I'm sorry.

I knew she was gonna debut soon
Let's hope she brushes upon her English pronounciation
I actually thought that she was gonna debut first in China?

I don't know....

Its tough in America, so theres a HIGH chance shes going to have a EPIC fail. Besides her English isn't good.

Oh well, Good luck to her though. I hope after her, its Ayu's turn o_o.

I really doubt Ayu will ever release an english album, in fact I am pretty sure she never will.BoA's english isn't bed, at least when it comes to pronouncing words, the thing is that her english songs have (so far) have been mostly based on poor translation from Japanese, besides DOUBLE and well KEY OF HEART were just fine. I am pretty sure that the rest would sound better if the lyrics were better adapted/written more correctly. And we can't really know if she'll fail or not, it can flop or do great, I mean crap sells in USA/EU like crazy, I just don't want her to change her music style much, and make a bunch of LOSE YOUR MINDS ^^.

She is going to flop way worse than Hikki.
She'll at least have some Koreans to fall back on for sales here in the States

that's not entirely true...urban music isn't the only music that sells in the US. Look at artists like Amy Winehouse, Bjork, KT Tunstall, etc....the one thing that can help someone break thru is exposure. Tell me, in 2004, did yu hear ANYTHING about Utada's album on a daily basis? Any tv commercials, talkshow performances, or tv-tie-ins? What about Tata Young? They were missing promotion. As long as people know she exists, she can sell at least a little bit. The genre has nothing to do with sales. Now, i don't see her hitting number 1 and winning a grammy, but as long as she has a good amount of promotion, she could get a good debut place on the charts. Yu never know, BoA could actually do what Utada couldnt! Most people think that just cuz Utada flopped, that BoA will too....but i dont think Utada was even trying to sell well.

I don't really get why all these artists want to break out in the US. I see a continent like Europe a much easier target.

that was I thought to but I'm surprised she's gonna debut in US .

Good luck to that , she's gonna need it badly . I'm not a BoA fan but she's gonna need all the luck in order to try her best to break into the US market . It's gonna be a hard nut for her to crack .

omg, yes....those lyrics were ghastly....i don't think she ever had an english song with perfect lyrics...Amazing Kiss came close, but songs like KEY OF HEART and Every Heart just don't cut it. wait, i think ID; Peace B had some pretty good english lyrics. we can blame avex for that though...they were just to lazy to get someone who was fluent with english to do the lyrics. Luckily, avex wont be in charge of her...the label information is to be released in march.

Doesn't Japan have the biggest music industry second only to the US? It seems reasonable that anyone would want to break into the US market...but still.

same here

But it's hard to say; maybe BoA debut may turn to be an instant success in US due to stroke of luck..however chances of flopping is quite high.
