![]() Hikki freakin creates EVERYTHING. She's an actual artist, in the purest sense of the word. If that doesn't spell creativity, I don't know what does. Ayu is creative, sure. But more than hikki? I don't think so. She just has weird crap going on in her head and she got lucky someone made her a popstar. Her arrangers and composers are creative, and so is avex with its strategies. So okay, what's this grammy talk stuff? I think she should definitely get a grammy...granted, if she had started in America, and had the same fame proportionate to what she had in Japan...she'd probably already have like a ton.

It may sound diplomatic, but IMO them both totally owns on different areas where each other lacks (even if Ayu can be an amazing musician sometimes and, Hikki an amazing performer... it's not their cup of tea) |

But it would totally boost Utada's popularity if she got Grammy nominations, right?
![]() Utada is like, known for her creativeness lol. |

I agree with Andrenekoi, each one of them lacks smth and they're so different. I also agree that Hikki is a great producer, but when comes to everything else, my opinion is that Ayu is more creative (lyrics, perfoming, image).
That was my point, but I wrote it like Hikki isn't creative at all, which is wrong so I'm sorry for that.

^I don't think Ayu is very creative about her lyrics... Her themes are always the same (even if this is expected to any artist, she is a little too much) and the way she write her lyrics doesn't change at all (she is trying new stuff now, but people bashed her for it xD So I guess Ayu fans are afraid of changes, but they don't wanna watch her at a distance xDDD), but they are very easy to relate to (while Hikki's aren't that easy to relate to, they are better writen).
In the end of the day, Utada rocks at what the does the best (composing, writing lyrics) and have her staff *ex-husband* to take care of what she doesn't feels like doing (image, promoting), and Ayu does the same (being perfoming what she does the best and composing what she doesn't feels like doing) |

Ayu is creative in her lyrics, but Hikki's are more unique and varied...I think Ayu repeats the same things in her lyrics a lot...but that's just my opinion. As for composing...there's a reason Ayu stopped composing...because she was never really a composer in the first place and she probably found other people who she thinks can do a better job. Vocally, I think Hikki is a little better....but Ayu still has one of my favorite vocal performances of all time, ASFXX @ a-nation 2008. So...yeah....I'm not like saying she can't sing...considering she's deaf in one ear and not really a professionally trained singer, she's pretty phenomenal. Just look at a-nation 2009. All her vocals were good. As for creativity for performances....Ayu has hikki beat...all of Ayu's concerts are so creative. Well yeah...when it comes down to it I think its really hard to compare these two artists....since they're completely different...Ayu's more focused on selling an image and creating a great show...Hikki is more focused on making something she likes. They're both great...duh...otherwise how did they get as famous as they are x_x

Creativity it's a subjective concept. And saying Utada is more creative than ayu is also subjective. Sure you can be creative, but creativity doesn't necesarily equal quality. Many artists are considered such not because they created lots of things, but because they worked hard in one (or may be more) and went beyond than others. And honestly, i think it's better to be really good in just one area than working in many and not being good in any. If you wanna be the best, you have to invest a lot of time and effort to improve your abilities,in whatever you do.
And the grammys... i have mixed feelings about them. The main categories as someone pointed, are very corrupted and basically just focused on what's "hot" on the charts... It's clear quality is not the main standard here, which honestly, makes look the grammys as a joke, with all due respect. (I just can't visualize a classical record in a nomination for album of the year) but in the other hand, they give awards to lots of genders, including latin music, world music, and classical. I think these are the grammys worthy to pay atenttion to. in my opinion these are the "serious" categories.

^Well... actually, science consider creativity as "the ability to solve problems" (being "problem" almost anything that you need to do, like cooking dinner with an almost empty refrigerator or organizing your own stuff in the best way possible on a box...).
A person who can easily solve most of the problems he/she finds (on Ayu's/Hikki's case, composing songs that appeals to their public, producing concerts, writing lyrics, choosing melodies and arrangments, etc.) is a creative person... I would say that a non-creative artist is someone that only does whatever his/her producers says or that get stuck on the same kind of production over the years (there are examples of both on jpop, but if I say who, fans will get mad at me xD) |

To each their own^^ Our personal opinions on what we consider to be more creative are ok, but useless sometimes.
Anyway, I just saw this photo and I wonder... is this Hikki at all? @_@ I don't think so... Spoiler:
EDIT: also the poll has been made, do you prefer Hikki with short or long hair? Last edited by Maemi; 3rd October 2009 at 11:58 PM. |

The picture won't load fully for me, but from what I can see, that's Utada. But you knew that. You just didn't want to believe it.
![]() EDIT: Yeah, even her name is in the top right corner.

Yeah, of course I didn't want to believe, I thought it was photoshopped. It's probably the make-up that make her look so... scary / unusual.
