Now these are the kinds of lyrics I like. <3 I also was reminded of Duty!

Thanks for the translation.

思いこがれた桃源郷は強くてとても冷たい風が

This is the Japanese line.

maikaru previously translated this as Shangri-La.

Quote:
桃源郷
Means "paradise on Earth" apparently.

http://ja.wiktionary.org/wiki/Xanadu
Commonly translated as "Xanadu" as well.

The origins of Xanadu:
[After Xanadu, a place in "Kubla Khan," (1798) a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.]

Thanks masa!

Wow...this is one of my favorite lyrics of this album. I can really relate to this song.

About the "Xanadu" part.. maybe Shangri-La should be used still? I think it's a more well-known term. I've personally never hear of the word "Xanadu".

Most people know of Xanadu as the song / Olivia Newton-John movie, haha.

Either would work imo. I guess it just depends on people's preference in the end.

Xanadu? Shangri-la? Paradise (on Earth)?

There's that line in the chorus that goes "owari ga hajimaru" which means "the end will begin". I guess the beginning of the end is when a count down starts?

It's a "count down" to the end, I suppose.

I heard a lot of beep beep beeps like from when alarms go off due to countdowns ending during the song.

It's not to deafness since her other ear is fine, but just... I suppose the end of her career a la Duty?

AHHA did u just spoil something about the song O.O lol...interesting though

So..duty was hinting at the end of her career? Well, look where she is now.

Somehow, I think psychologically, whenever Ayu write such songs, she just becomes stronger..

The beeps could also allude to the sounds heard in hearing tests. Those sounds? THEY STAY WITH YOU FOREVER (I should know, I've been taking at least 2 of those tests a year for a little over 13 years now--yay being deaf in my right ear /no lie)

Well, she could also be alluding to eventually going completely deaf, which is a strong possibility. As a singer, it'd be damn near impossible to continue as such if completely deaf. So when she loses her hearing, she loses her singing career?

If Ayu's problem with her ear is Tinnitus could the beeping be a representation of what she hears?

From Wikipedia

Quote:
Tinnitus can be perceived in one or both ears or in the head. It is usually described as a ringing noise, but in some patients it takes the form of a high pitched whining, buzzing, hissing, screaming, humming, tinging or whistling sound, or as ticking, clicking, roaring, "crickets" or "tree frogs" or "locusts," tunes, songs, beeping, or even a pure steady tone like heard in a hearing test.[5] It has also been described as a "wooshing" sound, as of wind or waves.[6] Tinnitus can be intermittent or it can be continuous in which case it can be the cause of great distress. In some individuals, the intensity of tinnitus can be changed by shoulder, head, tongue, jaw, or eye movements.[7]

Most people with tinnitus have hearing loss,[8] in that they are often unable to properly hear external sounds which occur within the same range of frequencies as their "phantom sounds." [9]

'On my left side' ...
On Ayu's left side. Isn't Peco usually on her left side? (j/k)

Thanks for the translation! It's a beautiful song.

You are welcome.

Tougenkyou (桃源郷) is a paradise-like village which was supposed to be deep in the mountains in China. Tou (桃) means "peach". So it's a word with Asian image. There are several English words corresponding to this ---"Xanadu", "Shangri-la", "Lotus-land", "Ideal world", "Utopia", etc. Which do you think is the most suitable to this song? I'd like to hear your opinions.

I changed some parts.
woke me up and disappeared --> woke me up, and at the same time, disappeared
If you are in the abyss --> Supposing you are in the abyss
Sonna koto wa daiji ja nai no
Motto hoka ni aru no --> Sonna koto wa daiji ja nai no motto hoka ni aru no
(This means that I changed the romaji part from 5 lines to 4 lines.)

I would personally go with "Shangri-la" as it's what I've seen 桃源郷 translated as most often. It also retains that Asian image you mentioned, which is a bonus. (The same could be said of "Xanadu", but I can't help but picture this when I hear it. ) "Utopia" is the other popular choice, but to me it doesn't seem to carry the same nuance as "Shangri-la".

Thanks again for your wonderful translations.
